At times,
We notice certain tendencies within us,
Lust,
Anger,
Greed,
They arise,
Often without warning.
Patanjali offers a way to work with these patterns.
The first is to look directly,
To observe,
To understand,
To see clearly what is happening within.
This kind of observation requires honesty.
It asks for courage,
Strength and clarity.
But when we are willing to look,
Something begins to settle,
Not by force,
But through understanding.
The second approach is to gently bring in an opposite quality.
When the mind feels disturbed,
We can bring in balance,
Peace and harmony.
This helps the mind settle and creates space for clarity.
But these two approaches are not the same.
Bringing in the opposite can calm the surface.
Looking directly can reveal the root.
So both have their place.
One supports balance,
The other brings understanding.
And together,
They guide us inward.
So the next time something arises within,
Just notice,
Can I understand this,
Or gently bring balance?
Both are part of the path towards a steady mind.
Namaste.
