The Witch's Ladder is a spell work tool that's basically a rope,
A cord,
Or a piece of yarn with knots tied in it.
Some will tie a charm,
Such as a feather or a crystal,
To the rope with each knot.
There are usually nine knots in total,
Each representing a spell or a part of a spell.
The knots are tied to seal or bind the practitioner's intentions.
When the final knot is complete,
The spell is considered to be bound.
Also known as knot magic or cord magic,
Creating a Witch's Ladder usually involves chanting to raise the practitioner's energy as the spell is cast.
Some will keep the rope on their person to help them concentrate on a chant without having to keep track of how many times it is repeated.
In this regard,
It is similar to a rosary.
Some will hang the ladder in a meaningful place,
While others might choose to immediately toss it into a fire.
The first Witch's Ladder was discovered in an abandoned home in England in the 1800s.
It remains a popular tool to this day because it is easy to make and just about any type of string will do.
Many will select a certain color of twine based on the color correspondences of their working.
What also makes this a popular choice for workings is that it is very visual.
By tying each knot,
You are able to see your working begin to take form.
It can be adapted however a practitioner sees fit.
In my personal practice,
I don't tie any charms to mine.
Sometimes I will simply chant the spell without using a rope at all.
So now I will share with you my version of the chant.
By the knot of one,
The spell has now begun.
By the knot of two,
My magic comes true.
By the knot of three,
As I command,
So mote it be.
By the knot of four,
The spell I now store.
By the knot of five,
My will shall now drive.
By the knot of six,
The spell I now fix.
By the knot of seven,
The spell I now leaven.
By the knot of eight,
The spell will be the fate.
By the knot of nine,
The spell is mine.
The spell I bind,
The spell is mine.
The spell I bind,
The spell is mine.
The spell I bind,
The spell is mine.
So that's the basics of the Witch's Ladder.
As always,
Feel free to adapt and modify as you see fit.
There are no set rules to follow,
As your intention is the true driving force behind this and any type of magical working.
Blessed be.
