Whenever it rains,
We typically go indoors.
We go inside to keep warm and safe.
In doing so,
We are invited to slow down for a short period of time and enjoy what is surrounding us inside.
When it rains outside in a metaphorical sense,
Particularly during times of stress or when we take on energies that aren't ours or beneficial,
We are being called to similarly respond by going inward.
By going inward,
We create a safe place for ourselves.
While allowing external forces that do not serve us to simply pass us by.
The following meditation invites you to do just that.
Begin in a comfortable position,
Either sitting or lying down.
As you relax into whatever position is best for you,
Take several deep breaths.
Close your eyes.
Allow your neck,
Shoulders,
And jaw to soften.
Allow your muscles to release any tension they've been storing as you keep your focus on your breath.
You are inside,
Warm,
Dry,
And safe.
Any storm clouds you might have observed forming during your day are all outside,
Preparing to pass.
Perhaps you hear wind.
Acknowledge that wind and allow it to be there.
Allow it to push those clouds away as it always does.
Perhaps you also notice the sound of rain starting to fall.
Perhaps you hear thunder in the distance.
Acknowledge those sounds as well and let them go.
They do not seek to harm or distract you.
There is no need to give these sounds power over you that they simply do not have or to fear them.
They too signal that the clouds are soon to pass.
They are nothing more than sounds.
All sounds quiet themselves naturally.
By staying focused on yourself and going within,
You will hear only that which pertains to your highest good.
Concentrate on your breath,
On what is inside you.
That which resides within you cannot be taken away by any storm or outside influence.
That which resides within you is of your design.
It's yours.
It's you.
It is protected and safe regardless of what is going on around you.
Take a few moments now to admire and value that which is within yourself.
See,
Sense,
And feel that the rain outside has stopped after washing away anything that had been weighing you down.
At your own pace,
Begin to open your eyes.
Take your time.
Take three deep breaths,
Inviting in a sense of self-compassion,
Safety,
And protection.
All sounds quiet themselves naturally.
By staying focused on yourself and going within,
You will only hear that which pertains to your highest good.
