Are you ready to meditate with Kari?
Climb up into your bed and make sure that you're super comfortable.
Check that everything is just right in your room.
The lights are just right.
You're wearing your comfortable pajamas.
And you can lay still and quiet so you can relax your body as you listen to the story.
Tucker and Leo had gone for a walk by the creek with some of their friends,
River,
Jessie,
Annabelle and Cora.
However,
The creek wasn't too far away.
Jessie and River's mom had drove them there.
When you get there,
It's about a half a mile walk before you get to the creek.
And it's a really lovely place to go.
The last time that Jessie and River went,
They saw tadpoles in the creek and lots of little fishes.
And they told Annabelle and Cora about it and Tucker and Leo also wanted to go.
Because it wasn't that much of a long car ride,
Leo was okay with it.
It was about five minutes away from where River and Jessie lived.
So,
The day was sunny.
There was a lovely breeze in the air.
It was perfect,
Perfect to go to the creek,
To play in the water and just hang out together.
When they got there,
The first thing Leo did was be brave.
He stood on the rocks at the side of the creek and let his paws get wet.
This feels really nice,
He said.
All of the kids took off their socks and shoes.
Everyone was paddling in the creek.
It was quite a shallow creek,
You could walk all the way through it from one side to the other.
It didn't get deep.
It wasn't deep enough to swim in.
But it was definitely perfect.
It was crystal clear.
The water was brilliantly clean and sparkly with the sun shining down on it.
It was a really nice place to play.
And no one else was there,
Which made it even nicer.
Well,
It did for Leo because,
You know,
Leo's kind of particular about who he spends his time with.
Tucker was bounding all over the place.
The clear water wasn't clear for very long.
Tucker was running around in it,
Screaming,
Yee-haw,
As if he was a cowboy.
He was knocking up all the sand and the dirt at the bottom of the creek and the water got all muddy and thick.
It wasn't clear anymore.
It was okay for a minute,
But then River said,
Tucker,
Stop it.
Tucker stopped it.
Sorry,
River.
I'm sorry,
My love.
I just couldn't help myself.
Oh,
My goodness,
This is so nice.
It's so nice,
Leo,
Isn't it?
It's so nice.
This is like the perfect place.
How come you've never taken this here before,
River?
River said,
I don't know.
We just come here sometimes,
Don't we,
Jessie?
Jessie said,
Yeah,
Sometimes.
I really like to look for the fish.
Jessie was over on a particularly shallow part of the creek.
It looks like the creek must get higher when it rains.
Right now,
It had not rained for a while and it was quite low.
And there was a little puddle and a bank in between as if the creek was very low on water.
So part of the creek had separated from the other part of the creek.
And he was watching something very,
Very cool taking place.
Shouted everyone over when he realized what he was watching.
Everyone bent over and looked closely.
Tiny,
Tiny little fishes were trying to make it from one puddle over to the bigger part of the creek.
They were almost jumping.
And they were following each other.
It was a space of about maybe six inches that they had to jump or whittle themselves across.
Like when you see a dolphin or something come up onto shore and they come too high up onto the beach and they have to whittle themselves back down to get back into the ocean.
One of the little fishes was stuck halfway between one part of the creek and the other.
It was quite dramatic to watch.
Jesse was like,
Come on fish,
You can do it,
You can do it.
River said,
What do we do?
We can't just leave the fish in the middle because if it doesn't get to the water,
It's going to suffocate and die.
Things got a little bit intense.
Leo said,
Can we help it?
Can we help the fish?
The little fish was whittling its body around,
But it was digging a hole in the sand as if it was getting more stuck rather than moving forward.
And in the meantime,
There was other little fish just passing on by.
They weren't stopping to help the little fish.
Maybe that's something that fish don't do.
They were just whittling away or whittling and then jumping,
Like leaping for the water to get back into the main creek.
There was about 20 fish trying to do this.
Tucker said,
Oh,
I can't breathe.
Oh,
I can't breathe,
This is so intense.
Oh,
It's awful.
Oh,
It's awful.
Oh,
It's making my legs go funny.
Tucker said,
Can we do something?
Can we do something?
He got his nose really,
Really close down to where the little fishy was,
Stuck in its own pool,
Trying to get out of the hole that it was digging with its body.
But the more it whittled,
The more its body got stuck in the little hole.
It had created a sand circle around itself.
There was no way this fish was going to get out.
And it was so sad because the sun was out.
And,
You know,
If the fish stayed there on the little part that was rised up on land and the sun was beating down on it,
It was definitely going to die.
The sun would probably dry the fish out and that would be the end of that fish.
Which is OK,
Right?
Because things like that happen in life.
Things die.
But not today.
Cora said,
Do something,
Tucker.
Do something.
Tucker said,
I don't know what to do.
What do I do,
Leo?
What do I do?
Tucker started spinning round in circles.
He does that when he's nervous sometimes.
He was pretending to chase his tail,
But really he was nervous.
It was nervous energy.
I don't know what to do.
I don't know what to do.
And then all of a sudden,
Tucker pushed his nose down onto the sand and nudged the tiny little fish just gently,
Just a tiny little bit.
The fish found its groove,
Whittled and whittled and whittled,
And then jumped the final part to land into the creek.
Everyone cheered with relief.
Oh,
Gosh,
That was stressful,
Said Leo.
Good job,
Tucker.
Tucker started to chase his tail again.
Oh,
I'm so glad.
I'm so glad.
Go on,
Fishy.
Be free.
Be free.
The fish very quickly disappeared into the big creek,
Along with all the other fish.
And they could no longer recognise which one was which.
But everyone was relieved and very happy.
Annabelle had the genius idea to create a groove in the sand so that the fish could quickly get across,
Because the groove filled with water from one side of the creek to the other.
It was like a little swimming lane that they could swim along in.
It was perfect.
Did they interfere with the nature of the world at that point?
Did they interfere with how things work in the world?
Did they save fish that maybe didn't need to be saved?
We don't know.
But today they did.
Today they saved about 15 fish.
And they felt very,
Very good about it.
They moved on to other things,
Until Tucker found something very interesting a little bit higher up in the creek.
What is this?
He said.
What is this?
What is it?
What is it?
Cora said.
Ah,
That's so cool.
Annabelle came over.
She looked at it.
Wow,
That's really pretty.
River came over,
Along with Jesse.
Jesse had rolled his jeans up.
River had rolled their jeans up.
They were getting more and more into the feel of being in nature.
Chilling out with this lovely,
Cool creek all around them.
River bent over and said,
That's a mandala.
Oh,
What?
Said Tucker.
A mandiala?
No,
Said River,
Laughing.
A mandala.
A mandala is,
Well,
How would you say it?
It's kind of like a geometric design.
It's a very spiritual,
Spiritual pattern that people create.
They normally come in circles.
And they're like,
They symbolise the circle of life.
Unity.
They symbolise the universe.
And you can make them in many,
Many different patterns.
They're beautiful.
Can we do one?
The mandala that everyone was looking at was just basically at the bottom of the creek.
Like I said,
The creek was quite shallow,
So you could see to the bottom of the creek.
And somebody had come along and collected all tiny,
Different little pebbles and stones and created a circular pattern that became a mandala.
And it was so smart,
So pretty.
Every one of them decided that they were going to make a mandala.
They were going to leave their mark in the creek for someone else to come and say,
Wow,
This is cool.
What is it?
Everyone went in different directions,
Collecting as many stones as they could.
Tucker and Leo collected them in their mouths.
They would bob under the water and grab a hold of a pretty stone whenever they saw one.
The stones were white and grey.
Some of them had a pinky tone.
Some of them looked purple in the light.
Lots and lots of different grey tones.
Some of them were brown.
Some of them were cream.
Some of them were beige.
Some of them were dark,
Dark,
Dark black.
Because they were all so many different colours,
They knew that their mandala was going to be perfect.
They realized that by looking at the other person's mandala,
That everything had to be symmetrical.
It had to have a pattern.
It wasn't just a bunch of random things thrown together.
It was quite intricate looking.
So they started with a tiny circle in the middle.
And then they built out different shapes around the circle.
But each shape followed itself around.
So if one made a triangle,
They made triangles all the way around the circle.
So that it looked very balanced.
Everything was unified.
It had a feel to it.
It had a feeling.
And by the time their mandala was complete,
Everyone understood why people made mandalas.
It was really,
Really calming to do.
Therapeutic.
It made them feel peaceful and creative.
And it made them feel as if they were connecting to the creek,
The sky,
The wind,
The stars.
Each other.
They were connecting to each other by forming this formula of patterns in the mandala.
A little bit of each one of them.
There was a little bit of Tucker,
A little bit of Leo,
A little bit of River,
Jessie,
Annabelle,
Cora.
A little bit of their own creation.
Because no one took over.
No one was the leader.
And everyone kind of just went with each other's design.
Followed it around the circle to make it complete.
To make it unified.
And before they knew it,
They had a mandala that was really,
Really awesome.
It's a shame we don't have a camera,
Said Tucker.
I'd really love to take a picture.
River pulled out their phone.
They took a picture.
I have it,
They said.
Now we have it forever.
Will it last?
Will it last till next time we come?
Did it be awesome if it does?
Said Tucker.
Maybe,
Said Annabelle.
You never know.
Or maybe the current of the creek will move it and change it and maybe it'll rain and that'll change it.
We'll just have to wait and see.
It's so awesome.
I love it.
I love today.
Eventually,
The kids all settled down by the side of the creek.
Jessie took off his backpack,
Opened it up,
And passed everyone a sandwich that their mum had made them before they came.
Cheese and pickle.
Everyone loved cheese and pickle.
And then they all had some little cuties,
The tiny oranges,
And a bottle of water.
So nice.
I like me some cheese and pickle sandwiches.
My goodness,
I remember one time right.
One time right,
Mummy made cheese and pickle.
She said that the pickle was from England.
It was called Pickle-ly-ly-ly.
Pickle-ly-ly-ly.
Leo said,
Pickle-ly-ly.
Yes,
That city was called Pickle-ly-ly.
And it was bright yellow,
As yellow as the sun.
And I was like,
Ooh,
That smells good.
That smells so good.
What does Pickle-ly-ly-ly taste like?
And Leo said,
Ooh,
Don't touch it.
Mummy will not be happy.
And I said,
Ooh,
I can't help myself because Pickle-ly-ly-ly looks delicious.
Ooh,
Does it like cheese and sunshine?
Gone.
It was gone.
And Mummy said,
Ooh,
That was the last of my Pickle-ly-ly.
And I said,
Ooh,
I'm sorry,
Mummy.
And Mummy said,
It's okay,
Leo,
I love you.
And she gave me a kiss.
And I thought I was going to be in trouble like that one time I ate all the Christmas chocolate off the Christmas tree.
Ooh,
She wasn't very happy then,
Was she,
Leo?
Leo said,
No,
No,
She wasn't,
Tucker.
Anyway,
Yes,
So I like me a cheese and pickle sandwich.
Thank you so much,
Guys.
Thank you so much.
They had an amazing day at the creek.
The sun stayed out.
It stayed nice and cool,
But just enough sun to feel like the perfect sunshine day.
The sound of the water was really relaxing and calming.
The trickly,
Lulling sounds of the water rolling over the rocks was perfect.
They stayed there,
And most of them laid back on the grass and just chilled for a bit,
Watching the clouds,
Finding different shapes.
That's an elephant.
Look at the trunk on that elephant,
Tucker said about one of the big,
Fluffy clouds.
Leo had a nap,
And everyone else just relaxed.
After a while,
It was time to go back to the car to go home.
When Leo and Tucker got home,
They brushed their teeth,
And they got into bed.
Tucker snuggled into Leo,
And Leo said,
Move over there.
There's plenty of room.
And Tucker said,
Not if I want to snuggle.
He snuggled even closer,
And Leo just put his head down on his legs and closed his eyes.
Tucker fell asleep very quickly.
