Get comfortable and warm in your bed.
Take a nice big deep breath in through your nose and breathe out with a sigh through your mouth.
It's time to let go of all of your worries.
Time to relax your body so you can have sweet dreams.
Australia was a girl.
She was a girl that was a little bit different.
Australia was born with six fingers on one hand.
It looked like she had an extra pinky finger.
Australia was now at the age where she had come to terms with the fact that she had six fingers.
When she was younger,
It wasn't always that way.
She was super conscious and she would hide her hand all the time.
Kids made fun of her in school.
She hated being different.
Now she thought different was actually quite cool.
Having six fingers on one hand made me exactly who I am today,
She would tell people.
Having six fingers made me emotionally stronger,
She would tell people.
Being teased when I was younger gave me choices.
I could either be sad about it or I could get stronger about it.
Get more confident,
Outgoing,
Just more comfortable with who I am.
For the longest time she knew what it felt like to get sad and feel really bad and just hate being different.
But now she likes to think that she's all better.
Even though she'd never really met anyone or anything that had six fingers like she had until a very special day.
Australia who was now 11 was walking through the woods.
It was that time of year,
The floor of the woods was covered in pretty flowers.
Everything smelled so good.
The earth was soft and spongy underneath her feet and the flowers made it feel like she was walking on the flowered carpet.
They were white and purple and the aroma was so sweet and gentle.
It was a lovely day.
She liked to walk this way home from school.
The woods weren't too far away from where all the other people were.
It was just a shortcut to her house and that's why she liked to go that way.
The woods weren't scary woods.
She knew she was safe.
There was always friendly people walking their dogs,
Squirrels running around,
Birds chirping in the trees.
It wasn't those kind of woods that felt dark and lonely and scary.
No,
This was a really happy,
Jolly place to be.
A safe place to be and that's why Australia was walking that way.
Coming towards her was a lady with a very,
Very big dog.
Australia liked dogs.
She was excited about how big this dog was.
She'd never seen a dog that big.
It was practically a horse,
She thought to herself.
The lady got closer and closer to them with her dog and Australia smiled and said hello and the lady said,
Hello.
Australia said,
Would it be okay if I said hello and petted your dog?
The lady said,
Yes,
Of course.
My dog loves people.
He's very friendly.
Australia got closer to the dog and the lady and just as the lady said,
The dog started wagging his tail.
He was licking his mouth as if he wanted to give her a big lick in the face.
He sniffed her and wagged his tail and started to wag his,
All of his back end as if he was super excited to meet her.
He's so big,
Said Australia.
The lady said,
He's called Canada.
He's a very friendly dog.
He's a Great Dane.
That's why he's so big.
Wow,
He's called Canada and I'm called Australia.
We're like complete opposite ends of the earth.
One side of the world opposite the other side of the world.
Huh,
Said the lady,
How true.
The dog lifted up his paw as if to give her a paw.
Then Australia took his paw and started to shake his paw.
Pleased to meet you,
She said.
When she looked down at his paw,
She noticed he had an extra claw.
He has an extra claw,
Said Australia.
The lady said,
Yes,
He was born like that.
Makes him very special.
I have an extra finger,
Said Australia.
She showed the lady her left hand.
Well,
I'll be darned,
Said the lady.
You guys are twins.
This is unbelievable,
Said Australia.
I've never met anyone with an extra finger or an extra claw.
This is so cool.
I always thought I was the only one.
The lady said,
Wow,
It's like you two were meant to be.
We'll have to make sure that we see each other again,
She said.
Do you come through the woods often?
Australia said,
I come through on my way from school every day.
Well,
We'll make sure to walk every day this way around this time.
And maybe you guys can get closer and closer and closer and become best friends,
Said the lady.
That would be so nice,
Said Australia.
The lady said goodbye.
The Great Dane wagged his tail,
And they walked off in the other direction.
Australia was thinking how happy she was that she'd met someone finally who was like her.
Even if it was a dog.
Who cares,
She thought.
Maybe there's a whole family out there in the world that has six fingers or six toes or six claws.
She carried on walking.
And all of a sudden,
She felt a little bit funny.
Like this very strange energy came over her like a wave of something very unusual.
She was trying to think what she felt like.
Did she feel uncomfortable?
No.
Did she feel nervous?
No.
Did she feel.
.
.
What did she feel?
She recognized it.
She felt like she'd just got home.
Like when you walk through the door at the end of the day,
Or you've been playing outside,
Or you've been away from home for a while.
You walk through the door,
You close the door,
And you instantly have this feeling of being very comfortable.
Oh,
I'm home.
I can sit in my favorite chair,
Or I can hang out in my room.
I can just be myself.
And that feels really comfortable.
In your body,
Everything just feels good.
Have you ever noticed that?
Well,
That's exactly what Australia just felt.
She stopped.
The feeling was so strong.
It stopped her in her tracks.
She looked up at the sky through the trees.
She looked down at the ground at the flowers.
And then she noticed.
She noticed exactly what made her feel like that.
The most beautiful,
Breathtaking looking wolf walked from around the big oak tree.
She loved that tree.
The wolf walked around from it as if it somehow had just magically appeared.
Australia wasn't scared.
This wolf felt very familiar.
Then she recognized what that feeling was.
The wolf felt like her.
The wolf had the same color eyes as her,
The same color fur as her hair.
The wolf walked forward,
And she walked forward.
The wolf bowed its head as if to say hello,
And then it started to communicate with her.
I've been waiting for this day for a long time,
Said the wolf.
My name's Soulfeather,
And you are a chosen one.
Me?
Said Australia in her mind.
To the rest of the forest,
It just looked like Australia was stood still.
She wasn't talking out loud.
The bunny rabbits and the squirrels kept jumping and hopping and playing and doing their thing.
It was like the wolf.
And Australia had blipped into another time zone or something.
Like no one else knew the wolf was there.
The wolf was like some kind of hologram there just to communicate with her.
Why have you come to see me?
Said Australia.
The wolf said,
Because you have the special mark.
Australia looked down at her hand and knew what the wolf was talking about.
Sit down in front of me,
Said the wolf.
Australia sat down on the earth.
She crossed her legs and gazed into the wolf's eyes as the wolf sat down across from her.
The wolf lifted up its left paw.
Australia lifted up her left hand and joined it with the wolf's paw.
The wolf leaned its head forward.
Australia leaned her head forward.
And then their foreheads touched.
The wolf felt cold.
Icy cold.
The cold temperature melded in with her warm body heat.
She could feel the cold transfusion going up her left hand into her arm,
Going through her forehead,
Down into her face.
It went up through her arm into her shoulder and down through her face into her neck until the two points met right there in the center of her heart.
She looked down and saw this bright blue light running up her arm,
Down into her chest.
The light was zoning in and out as if it was sinking with her heartbeat.
Vroom,
Vroom,
Vroom.
Australia's whole body felt like it was full of electricity.
The wolf said,
This is our magical time.
This is the time where all beings that feel different will realize how special they are.
All the girls,
All the boys,
All the men and the women,
All the babies,
All of the animals,
All beings that felt like they didn't fit or didn't belong will now belong.
Her heart started to beat really fast and then all of a sudden the blue light that was in her heart burst out of her chest and up between the two of them.
It blew up high into the sky like a firework shooting all of its light for all to see.
Soulfeather said to her,
Guide the way Australia.
Make everyone you meet know that they're special,
Just the way they are.
Differences make us special.
Spread the message all over the world.
So as the boys and girls grow up,
They feel good about who they are.
They feel confident about themselves.
They love and respect themselves.
They know that they can make a difference in the world.
They know that their love for themselves will become contagious and everyone that loves themselves because they spread the love of themselves will pass on love to everyone around them.
And before you know it,
The earth will be a better place.
The wolf finished by saying,
The light inside of you will join with all the lights from every being in the sky and the sky will illuminate and rid the earth of darkness.
Australia closed her eyes and took a big deep breath and when she opened her eyes,
The wolf was gone.
Just like that,
The whole world changed.
She knew her purpose.
Australia rose from the ground and walked home.
She never looked back,
Never questioned.
She knew what she had to do.
Do you feel different?
It's time for you to shine your light and join it in the sky with all of the other people that feel different so you can make the world a better place.
Just by being confident and loving and respecting yourself and being okay with exactly who you are.
The end.
