Are you ready to meditate with Cori?
Climb up into your bed and make sure that your whole body is snug and warm and comfortable.
Check that everything is just right in your room,
The lights are just right,
You're wearing your cozy,
Comfy pajamas,
And all is well in the world.
So you can relax your body and let go of your busy,
Busy day.
Stephanie was sleeping.
She was at that point of the morning where your body still wants to sleep,
Your mind still wants to sleep,
Yet you can hear the day starting.
Little house noises,
Creaks and maybe the sound of the wind or something outside.
You can hear them coming through,
But yet you feel as if you're still dreaming,
Still sleeping,
Peacefully.
All warm and safe in your bed.
Stephanie heard the sound of a noise that was very familiar to her.
She could hear the sound of the unicorns,
Their hooves on the ground and the sounds that they make with their noises when they sneeze or breathe or exhale.
For a second she just went with the sound of the unicorns in her mind,
As if she was surrounded by them or something.
But then the sound got louder.
Then she felt the breath on her face.
And then she felt something touch her forehead very gently.
Stephanie could feel herself coming up through the layers of consciousness,
Becoming more and more awake with every sound and every sensation that she was feeling.
Something touching her forehead was what finally woke Stephanie up.
She slowly opened her eyes and stared into the face of Luna.
Luna.
She smiled.
And then it registered.
Stephanie jumped back,
Surprised,
In her bed and stared into the eyes of Luna.
What are you doing?
How are you?
What?
I don't understand.
Luna said.
Hi,
Stephanie.
It's been a while.
Stephanie said.
What are you doing in my bedroom?
How did you get here?
Um.
Luna said.
Well,
My sweet Stephanie,
Every couple of years we have a topsy-turvy moon.
Topsy-turvy moon is when everything is shifted upside down in the worlds.
That means this time I can enter your world.
That's why I'm here.
You have the whole day with me.
So,
Sweet Stephanie,
What shall we do?
Stephanie looked at Luna as if to say,
You're crazy.
Her eyes got really big and she said.
You don't understand.
I can't walk around with a unicorn.
Unicorn?
Everybody will think I'm crazy.
Or they'll think they're crazy.
Unicorns don't actually exist.
Really,
Really exist.
Here on Earth.
Luna said.
Well,
Let's get creative.
How are we going to make this work?
Stephanie paused and thought about it for a second.
She looked at the giant horn in the middle of Luna's forehead.
That was the problem.
The rest of her could pass as a horse.
I have an idea,
Stephanie said.
She ran over to her desk in her bedroom and pulled out some elastic string.
She tied it around the horn on one side and wrapped it under Luna's chin.
And then tied it around the horn again from the other side.
There we go,
She said.
Now it looks like a party hat.
A very long,
Thin,
Horny party hat.
But still,
It looks like a party hat.
Luna said.
Excellent.
Where shall we go first?
Stephanie said.
I need to get dressed.
Let me get dressed.
And then I have to figure out how I'm going to get you downstairs and out of the house without Mom seeing.
Stephanie got dressed.
Her mom was on the back garden.
She was pruning the roses.
Perfect timing.
Stephanie shouted from the front door that she was going to go out and go fetch donuts from the donut shop down the road.
Her mom said.
Okay,
Be careful.
See you soon.
Never taking her eyes off the roses.
Stephanie walked Luna outside and started to walk down the street.
Well,
I tell you.
They were getting lots of strange looks.
Mr.
Tompkin,
That lived four hours down,
Almost ran over his own toes with the lawnmower.
He just stood there with his mouth open and Stephanie said.
Morning.
This is my friend's horse.
It's Luna.
It's her birthday.
That's why she's wearing the hat.
Oh,
All right,
Then,
Said Mr.
Tompkin.
Stephanie shuffled past his house very quickly.
The donut shop was about five minutes away and there's always a line at the donut shop.
Stephanie kind of pinched herself.
She didn't think about that.
That's a lot of people.
When they got there,
Just like normal,
There was a line going all the way around the building.
This was one of the best donut shops in town.
They made them fresh every day and word got around quick.
And yes,
They were very popular.
Stephanie loved this place and she knew that Luna would love it.
They got lots of stares from the people in the line.
But Stephanie kind of just decided to brush it off as if to say,
It's very normal to walk around with a unicorn going to get donuts.
She just shrugged and smiled at them and everybody kind of just smiled back.
The more cool she acted about it,
The more cool everyone else acted about it.
Which Stephanie thought was a good lesson.
A definite good life lesson.
Like,
You know,
The more comfortable you are with something,
The more everybody else seems to naturally just follow suit.
Whereas when you're embarrassed or uncomfortable,
Everybody else seems to pick up on that.
Hmm,
She thought.
I'm going to use this next time I feel super uncomfortable and just decide to be comfortable.
The line went quite quick.
There's lots of people that work in the donut shop,
So it didn't take very long before it was their turn.
Luna was staring at all the different donuts.
Wow,
She said.
If we can get as many donuts that will fit on my unicorn horn,
I will be very happy.
Stephanie called out different donuts,
Picking this one and that one,
And they ended up with a dozen.
Once they got outside of the stores,
Stephanie very carefully placed each donut on Luna's horn,
As if that was the new box,
And they started to walk to the next place that they were going.
As they walked,
Luna would stop,
And Stephanie would reach up and get another donut,
And they'd share it.
Luna loved the donuts,
But she said,
I am quite disappointed that they just are donuts,
Though,
You know?
In Moonbow Forest,
They would be.
.
.
I don't know.
Something very interesting.
They would be the rings from a giant's fingers,
Or they would be the rings of smoke from a shaman's pipe.
Something interesting and cool.
Not just a donut.
But she couldn't deny that these donuts were de-li-cio-so.
The next place that Stephanie took Luna was the Jump Zone.
The Jump Zone was a place where you could go in and basically jump on giant trampolines and fall down and bounce from giant platforms and jump into big balls of spongy stuff.
That's how Stephanie explained this place to Luna,
And Luna said,
Oh,
That sounds like fun.
Can you eat the giant trampolines?
Stephanie said,
No.
Oh,
Said Luna,
Once again quite disappointed.
But she happened to love the Bouncy Bouncies.
They were a little bit weird at the front desk about whether horses with party hats were allowed in the Jump Zone place,
But eventually they let Luna in.
On this particular day,
It wasn't that busy,
So they figured it couldn't hurt.
But she did have to sign a waiver.
The waiver included that she wouldn't jump on any children or accidentally spear them with her party hat,
Because that would be horrendous.
They had a lot of fun.
But one day with Luna here on Earth is not that long,
So they didn't stay more than an hour,
And then they left and moved on to the next thing.
Stephanie told her that she'd have to go home and let her mom know that she was going to go out.
Stephanie wanted Luna to experience the whole drive-through.
She was going to take her to a burger place.
Luna was very excited about this,
But they weren't sure how they were going to do a drive-through when you can't fit a unicorn in a car.
I'll just drive you,
Said Stephanie.
They waited in line with the cars.
They got very strange looks.
But again,
Stephanie decided that it was very normal to be driving a horse,
Actual unicorn,
Through a drive-through.
And therefore she just smiled and waved at everybody,
And everybody else just kind of smiled and waved back.
Oh,
Okay then.
Happy birthday,
Said one of the men in the car behind them.
Once Stephanie had explained that it was her horse's birthday and that's why she was wearing this hat,
Luna said,
Oh,
Thanks.
Thanks very much.
When they got to the window to make their order,
Stephanie told them exactly what they wanted.
A double-double with extra sauce and animal fries,
Please.
Times two with Coca-Cola.
You're in for a treat,
Said Stephanie.
Then they went to the next window to pick up their food.
Luna said,
Lots of windows.
Very interesting.
This is fun.
Stephanie reached down to get all of the food and then they went to the park across the street to chill out under a tree and eat their burgers and fries and Cokes.
Luna ate hers in two mouthfuls.
What do you think,
Said Stephanie.
Luna said,
Perfecto.
We definitely need a tree that delivers these back home.
Or some kind of magical house with windows just like yours.
Stephanie started laughing.
I knew you'd like it.
Then,
After the park,
Time had flown.
It was getting dark.
And Luna walked home with Stephanie on her back.
She dropped Stephanie off at the front gate of her house and said it was time for her to leave.
Until the next,
So many years,
When it was upside down,
Topsy-turvy moon once again and then maybe she could come back to Earth and try different things.
Stephanie said she looked forward to that,
But in the meantime,
She'd see her back in Moonbow Forest pretty soon.
