Are you ready to meditate with Kari?
Lie down in your bed and make sure that you're comfortable.
It's time to let go of the outside world.
Time to slow down and relax your body.
Taking a nice,
Big,
Deep breath,
Starting to slow down your breathing.
Sending signals to your brain that it's time to relax.
All is well in the world and hopefully you can fall to sleep.
Lee had heard that there was a very special place not too far away from where he lived.
He couldn't sleep.
He'd been tossing and turning in bed.
And he thought maybe some fresh air,
Going out for a walk would be good.
It was still quite cold in the evenings where Lee lived so he put on some thick socks.
A warm sweatshirt and sweatpants.
His boots.
And then as he passed the coat rack in the hallway,
He grabbed his jacket and put that on too.
Before he opened his front door,
Went outside and decided to go try this place he'd heard all about.
Apparently,
The bunny barn was open 24 hours.
You could go there and grab a cup of tea or a coffee.
You could have snacks,
Scones,
Cookies,
A piece of cake.
He believed that they even served savoury things like sandwiches and burritos,
Things like that.
He wasn't hungry,
It was too late for food,
But maybe he'd have a cup of tea,
He thought.
A nice cup of chamomile tea would be a good idea since it was quite late at night.
And he would like to go home and sleep after this.
The bunny barn is what it was called.
The bunny barn was what it sounded like.
Apparently it was a place where you could go and hang out and just be surrounded by lots and lots of bunny rabbits.
Sounded a bit strange,
Lee thought,
But he was intrigued because ever since he was a little boy,
He loved bunny rabbits.
At one point,
When he was about seven,
He had a bunny rabbit.
His bunny was called Luke.
It was black and white.
It took him a long time to name the bunny rabbit Luke.
He called it all sorts of things at first.
Oreo.
Patch.
He ended up with Luke and he had Luke for a few years,
But at the time,
Lee was only seven and he wasn't very responsible.
He probably wasn't mature enough to take care of a bunny.
So after a few years,
His parents made him give the bunny rabbit to someone that would take care of it better.
And even though he was very sad,
It was probably the best thing to do.
But now Lee was older,
More mature.
Old enough to know that his parents were right and he wasn't really taking care of the bunny rabbit.
It wasn't that he was bad to the bunny.
It's just that he could have done more.
He could have played with it more and loved it more.
It could have been more to him,
But he kind of got bored with it after a while,
Which is what happens sometimes when you get pets.
You're really excited about a pet when you first get it.
But then when you realize it's work and you have to take care of them and you have to clean their cages and you have to feed them,
Then it becomes more of a chore for some people.
And that's what happened to Lee.
But he'd never stopped liking bunnies.
They're just so cute.
How could you stop liking a bunny rabbit?
He was thinking all sorts of things on his way there.
He was thinking about everything that he couldn't sleep,
Worrying about earlier.
The things he had to do.
He was in college,
So he had a lot of work.
He got tests coming up.
He was a bit stressed.
He needed something nice to preoccupy his mind.
When he got to the bunny barn,
It had a very cute front door.
The building,
The front,
The face of the building,
Had been painted as if it was one of those red barns that you see in the countryside with a white trim.
And the door looked like it was a big wooden barn door.
When Lee opened it,
It creaked a little bit.
And also a bell tinkled,
As if to let whoever owned the place know that someone was coming.
The barn door creaked behind him as he walked into the bunny barn.
At first he was shocked because there was quite a lot of people there.
It was 10.
30 at night.
How many of these people can't sleep?
Or maybe it was just Lee that had gone to bed way too early.
Maybe these people had not even tried to sleep yet,
He thought.
Maybe they were just still living their day.
But 10.
30 at night was super late for him because he had to be up early in the morning.
Lee stood there for a few minutes just assessing the place,
Thinking through what he would do first.
He looked around the room.
It was quite a big room.
There were tables and chairs.
There were also booths in the room.
Like when you go to a diner and you can sit at a booth.
There were booths all along both of the walls.
Inside was quite bright,
Just like the outside.
It looked like a lot of wood,
As if it was a barn.
But also the tables were wooden but they had been painted red.
And there was lots of white accessories all over.
So even though it was wooden,
It was quite bright inside.
But the lights weren't stark bright.
They thought this through,
Obviously.
The people that created the bunny barn because the lights were quite peaceful and calming.
It wasn't like being in a doctor's office or anything like that.
It was very relaxing.
The atmosphere and the energy of the place was welcoming and very relaxing.
Lee noticed that it was quite warm inside the barn,
So he took off his jacket and held it over his arm.
And then a lady approached him.
She was wearing a red apron that was tied around her waist.
So he assumed,
As he took a quick glance around the room and noticed that there was quite a few people that must be staff that were wearing the same uniform,
That she was staff.
And he smiled at her and said hello.
And she said,
Welcome to the bunny barn.
Where would you like to sit?
Lee looked from left to right.
He didn't really want to sit alone in a big booth.
He saw what looked like an armchair.
Medium sized.
Over in a corner.
Away from most people.
And he said if it was okay,
He would like to sit over there.
Yes,
Of course,
She said.
Follow me.
She walked through and around some of the tables in the middle of the room and Lee followed behind her.
She motioned for him to take a seat.
There was a small round wooden table in front of Lee and he assumed that that's probably where he'd be able to put his tea when he ordered it.
He asked the lady if they had chamomile tea and she said yes,
We do.
Lee felt something move around his foot.
He wasn't focused on anything at this point,
Just the lady and the conversation he was having.
But he got drawn away from the conversation and his attention went straight to his foot.
And when he looked down,
There was a bunny rabbit.
And that's when he really noticed that there were bunny rabbits everywhere.
The bunny that was down by his feet was black and white and patchy.
Just like Luke,
His bunny that he had when he was seven.
It made him smile,
So big.
It was like it was meant to be almost.
Like a sign that whatever made him not sleep,
Whatever made him get up and get dressed,
Whatever made him come to this place,
Was a sign.
Because here,
The first bunny that came to greet him was Luke.
Not actually Luke,
His Luke.
But it was a bunny that looked just like Luke.
The lady smiled at Lee and then turned and went to go make his cup of tea.
And Lee settled back into the chair.
The bunny that was down by his foot that looked like Luke kept tugging at the bottom of his pants.
Lee leaned forward and looked down at the ground again.
The bunny was actually tugging at his pants with his teeth.
Are you hungry,
Little fellow?
Lee said.
He leaned even further forward and scooped the bunny up with his left hand and brought it up to his legs.
The bunny looked very happy about being held.
It was interested in chewing on his sweatshirt.
That's when Lee looked around and noticed that there was little bowls everywhere.
And inside of those bowls was bunny rabbit food.
You could feed the bunnies.
He reached forward and grabbed a few things out of the bunny rabbit bowls.
There were sunflower seeds and what looked like little pellets of rabbit food.
He put them in the palm of his right hand and put them in front of the bunny and the bunny was nibbling them out of his hand.
How cool,
Thought Lee.
This is so awesome.
As Lee stroked the bunny between his ears and down its back,
Little bits of fluff flew off.
And it reminded Lee of when Luke used to shed his rabbit fur everywhere in his bedroom and how his mum was allergic.
So whenever she would come into his room,
She would sit and talk to him for a little bit but then she'd start sneezing.
And it was as if she was a magnet to it because it seemed as if all of the bunny rabbit fur in his bedroom would just fall on her all at once.
She'd have it in her eyes and up her nose and she'd be rubbing her face and sneezing.
Remembering back,
He thinks that's probably one of the reasons why Luke didn't stay in the family.
Also,
Rabbits last a very long time.
So if you get a pet and it's a rabbit,
Be prepared to have it for about 20 years or so.
They basically grow up with you.
Lee decided to talk to the rabbit as if it was Luke.
It kept calling it Luke.
You're putting fur all over me,
Luke.
The rabbit didn't mind at all.
It ate all of the food.
So Lee leaned forward and grabbed a few more things out of the bowl for Luke to nibble on.
It wasn't too long before another bunny rabbit came and nudged by his foot.
When Lee reeled forward and looked down,
It was a pure white bunny rabbit with pink eyes.
It was so big and so fluffy and soft looking.
And its tail,
Its cotton ball tail was so big and fluffy.
Lee reached down and picked that bunny rabbit up and put it on its knees next to Luke.
Two rabbits,
Very happy,
On his lap.
The lady came back with his chamomile tea and placed it on the table and asked him if he needed anything else.
Thanks,
I think I have everything I needed.
Smiling down at the bunnies.
There was something about stroking a bunny rabbit that made you just relax.
How soft they are.
How silky and smooth their fur is.
How warm they feel underneath your fingers and your hand.
To just watch their little noses wiggle around and their eyes move curiously all over.
Lee couldn't believe that these bunny rabbits were so comfortable and they didn't even know him.
He sat back in the chair and started to feel his shoulders relax.
He looked around the room.
There was all different kinds of people in there.
It looked like a few couples.
Some people were there alone just like him.
There was an older gentleman over in one of the corners of the room sat in a similar chair to what Lee was sat in.
And Lee watched him for a while.
Four bunny rabbits he had on his lap.
And he was talking to them all as if he knew them very well.
And the bunny rabbits looked so happy to be with him.
It didn't look like they were forcing themselves to be with him.
And these bunny rabbits would come and go.
They'd jump down when they felt like it and then some of them would come back and then different ones would come back.
Lee assumed he must be a regular or something because it was like nearly all the bunny rabbits in this place seemed to know this old man.
And they all liked him.
And then he noticed that he got bits of carrots and he kept getting them out of his pocket.
He was feeding them extra treats.
Which apparently was okay.
You had to let the people know that owned the place if you were going to feed them your own snacks.
Just to be sure that it was something that the rabbits could eat safely.
Lee made a mental note that if he was coming to this place again,
Which he sure he would because he really liked it,
That he would bring carrots.
Or he would do a bit of research to see what are some of the things that rabbits like to eat.
And make sure to bring those as well.
Lee drank his tea slowly and people watched.
Constantly stroking Luke that still stayed with him right there on his lap.
The white bunny had jumped down a while ago.
Some of the bunny rabbits in there had the biggest,
Fluffiest,
Softest looking ears.
But they didn't come anywhere near Lee and he didn't want to force any of the bunnies to come and be with him.
So he was quite content to just be sat on his chair drinking his chamomile tea with Luke.
Just watching the people enjoying the rabbits.
And he could tell that all of the stress and anxiety he was feeling was fading away.
He was getting more and more relaxed.
His eyes started to blink slower.
But he still kept smiling at people and enjoying Luke and what Luke was getting up to on his lap.
But his blinking definitely got heavier and slower.
He noticed after a while that his breathing slowed down.
Became shallower.
More rhythmic.
Calming and peaceful.
And he also noticed that because he was relaxing his muscles got heavier.
His legs were heavy.
In the chair he could feel it.
His body definitely felt heavier.
After about an hour or so Lee decided that it was probably best if he went home and tried to go to sleep.
Luke drank all his tea.
And there was no more rabbit food left in the little bowl there on his table in front of him.
So he took it as a sign that it was probably time to say goodbye to Luke and go home.
He lifted Luke up with both hands and held him in front of his face and said,
I will see you again.
The rabbit twitched its nose very vigorously and its whiskers flew all over the place.
As if the rabbit was catching a new scent.
Maybe the scent of the chamomile tea on Lee's breath as he spoke to him.
Lee smiled and put Luke down on the ground.
As he stood up he brushed off all of the rabbit fur and the bits of food that had landed on his sweatpants.
The girl that brought his tea to him noticed.
She smiled at him as he walked over to pay for his tea.
And then he said goodbye and that he would probably be back.
He smiled at a few more people and nodded his head at the old man in the corner with all of the rabbits around him.
The old man just nodded back.
He opened the big creaky barn door and went back out to the cold.
Glad that he got his jacket.
Walked home.
Went to the bathroom.
And then got back onto the top of his covers in his sweatshirt and his sweatpants and just laid there.
He didn't even try to fall to sleep,
He just fell to sleep.
His eyes closed automatically and his body surrendered.
His bed was soft and warm underneath him and he felt safe and comfortable.
He ended up having a really good night's sleep.
He'd definitely go back there.
To the bunny barn.
Definitely.
The End.
