As you settle in,
You may also notice a steady sound beneath my voice tonight.
These are deep sleep delta waves.
These are associated with the slowest,
Deepest rhythms of sleep.
Deep sleep helps thoughts lose momentum,
Helps mental chatter soften,
And helps the mind drift towards slower,
Quieter rhythms.
So,
As you keep listening,
You may notice your breathing settling,
Your thoughts growing more distant,
And sleep beginning to feel closer.
We'll begin tonight's meditation by helping the body settle,
So the nervous system can begin to stand down.
Then,
We'll loosen the mind's grip,
So thoughts can start to feel less urgent.
Less important,
Less worth following.
From there,
I'll guide you deeper,
Away from effort and towards that quieter place where overthinking no longer needs so much from you.
And at the end,
You'll hear a series of simple affirmations,
Designed to deepen that shift,
So you can keep drifting and let sleep take over.
There's nothing you need to force,
Nothing you need to make happen,
Just allowing the words to wash over you,
And allowing the deeper mind to respond in its own way.
And the good news is,
You don't need to force your mind to go completely blank for this to work,
You don't need to stop every thought for this to work,
And you don't need to solve the day for this to work.
What this meditation can do is help those thoughts begin to soften,
To lose some of their pull,
To ask a little less from you,
So the body can start to let go,
And when the body settles,
Sleep often starts to feel much closer.
Tonight is about easing the mental load,
Giving the nervous system a break from scanning,
Planning,
Rehearsing,
And trying to stay one step ahead.
So by the time this hypnosis is over,
Or perhaps even before then,
The mind may feel quieter,
The body may feel heavier,
And sleep may feel easier to fall into.
Not because everything has been figured out,
But because for tonight,
Nothing else needs to be figured out,
There's nothing to get right here,
Nothing to achieve,
Just a gradual shift from mental effort into rest.
And even if a few thoughts are still there in the background,
This meditation can help you give them less of your energy,
Because thoughts can be present,
And sleep can still come.
So for these next few minutes,
We're simply making it easier for the mind to loosen its grip,
And for the body to remember how to let go.
And as that happens,
Deep sleep can begin to feel nearer,
More natural,
And more available tonight.
And now,
Instead of following the thoughts,
We can begin by noticing a few points of contact with the bed.
Noticing where the body meets the mattress,
Noticing where the head is resting,
Noticing where the shoulders and legs can give over a little more of their weight.
And noticing that the bed is already doing some of the work for us,
We don't have to brace in the same way here,
We don't have to keep holding everything up.
And as the body rests here,
There may be a gradual softening,
A softening in the face,
A softening around the eyes,
A softening through the jaw,
A softening through the neck,
A softening through the shoulders,
And we don't need to force any of that.
Allowing the muscles to do a little less,
And as the body begins to feel more supported,
The mind may begin to stand down a little too.
Less like it has to keep watch,
Because tonight,
We are not asking the mind to solve anything,
We are simply letting the body receive a different message.
That for now,
It's safe to soften,
It's safe to do less.
And sometimes,
That's where sleep begins,
Not when every thought has gone,
But when the body no longer feels the need to stay on guard.
And perhaps now,
We may also begin to notice the thoughts in a slightly different way.
Not as problems that need solving,
Not as instructions that need following,
Just as mental activity,
Still moving for a while,
While the rest of us,
Begins to slow down,
The mind may keep producing thoughts for a while,
Out of habit,
Out of momentum,
Out of that old effort to stay prepared.
But tonight,
We don't have to go with each one,
So if a thought appears,
We can simply leave it where it is.
If another one appears,
That too can remain untouched,
Almost as though the thoughts are passing across a distant screen,
While we rest further back.
Further down,
Further away from the need to engage,
Because sleep doesn't ask for every thought to be resolved.
Sleep simply asks that we stop climbing into each one,
And in a moment,
I'll count slowly down from ten to one.
And with each number,
You can drift a little further away from effort,
A little further down into heaviness,
A little closer to that quieter place where sleep can begin to take over.
And a little deeper now,
Not by trying,
Not by forcing,
Just by allowing each number to take us further away from effort.
And further into rest.
Ten.
A little less gripping.
A little more settling.
Nine.
A little less holding on.
A little more letting go.
Eight.
A little less interest in following the next thought.
Seven.
The body dropping more fully into the bed.
Six.
The mind doing a little less.
Five.
Heavier now.
Quieter now.
Further down.
Less analysing.
Less rehearsing.
Less checking.
Three.
More softness in the body.
More distance from the noise of the mind.
Two.
Nothing to solve here.
Nothing to work out.
One.
Just this deeper place now.
Where rest matters more than thought.
And perhaps noticing that each time the mind tries to pull us back into thinking,
We can simply sink a little further down instead.
Not resisting the thought.
Not arguing with it.
Just dropping beneath it.
As though every thought is happening further up on the surface.
While we continue drifting lower.
Lower into heaviness.
Lower into quiet.
Lower into that sleepy place where thoughts no longer need anything from us.
And here,
In this deeper place,
There may be a growing sense that nothing else needs to be completed tonight.
No final answer.
No perfect conclusion.
No last piece of thinking before rest is allowed.
So often,
The overthinking mind makes one quiet promise.
The promise that after just one more thought.
One more check.
One more attempt to work it through.
Then perhaps it will finally be safe to sleep.
But tonight,
That promise can loosen.
Because nothing important is being lost by resting now.
Because nothing essential is being missed.
And because nothing bad will happen because a thought remains unfinished.
Tonight,
We can let the unfinished remain unfinished.
We can let the mind stop reaching for one more round.
And we can let the morning handle the morning.
Because this moment.
This bed.
This darkness.
This breath.
Can belong to rest.
And as we rest here.
We can simply lay with a few gentle truths now.
Allowing these affirmations to settle.
