Welcome to the Mindful Self Compassion Break.
This practice is a gentle pause,
An opportunity to meet yourself with compassion,
Especially during moments of stress,
Struggle,
Or emotional difficulty.
Taking a moment to settle into a comfortable posture.
Perhaps closing the eyes or lowering the gaze if that feels comfortable.
Allowing the body to be supported by the surface beneath you.
And beginning by noticing the breath,
Feeling sensations of the breath breathing in.
And breathing out.
Allowing ourselves to fully arrive in this moment.
And now gently bringing to mind something that feels difficult right now.
Perhaps it's a stressful situation at work or a disappointment in a relationship.
Maybe it's self-doubt.
Choosing something that feels manageable to work with today,
Something that's mild to moderate,
Particularly if you're new to the self-compassion break.
And as you bring this to mind,
Noticing what you're feeling in the body.
Perhaps there's a tightness in the chest or tension in the stomach.
Simply acknowledging what is here.
And quietly saying to yourself,
Oof,
This is hard.
Or this hurts right now,
It's difficult.
So often,
When we struggle,
We feel isolated in our pain,
But suffering is a part of being human.
We are not alone in this experience.
So gently repeating to yourself.
This is part of being human.
Others struggle too.
I'm not alone.
Now if it feels comfortable placing a hand over the heart or anywhere your body naturally finds soothing.
Noticing the warmth and pressure of the touch.
And offering yourself a few kind phrases.
Maybe it's something like,
May I be kind to myself right now?
I'm doing the best I can.
And if these phrases don't fully resonate,
Asking yourself,
What is it that I need to hear from myself right now?
Maybe it's,
This moment won't last forever or it's okay to rest.
Allowing the words to land gently.
Noticing what happens when we stop fighting ourselves,
Even for a few moments.
Not trying to make the pain disappear,
But offering ourselves the same care we would offer to someone that we deeply care about.
And as this practice comes to a close,
Remembering that self-compassion.
It's not about avoiding responsibility or pretending things are easy.
It's about learning to support ourselves through life with greater awareness,
Kindness,
And humanity.
And when you're ready,
Gently opening your eyes or lifting your gaze.
And may you continue through your day with greater kindness towards yourself.
Thank you for practicing with me.
