What I am continuing to learn is that anger or any really intense emotion is often the moment I realize a boundary has been crossed.
Something or someone that I allowed in,
Oftentimes unconsciously or out of a mental habit,
It's a moment when my body,
My heart,
Even my nervous system is asking for more space,
Or more truth,
Or oftentimes more care.
I want to explore how we can meet anger without becoming it by grounding into our bodies before we decide what it means or what to do next.
Blessings.
This is Brenda Curie.
Allow this time to be a sanctuary for you,
Where you can soften,
Heal,
And reconnect with your inner wisdom.
I am so grateful that you are here with me today.
I'd love to open this episode with a quote from Rebecca Campbell.
She's one of my favorite authors.
She says,
Anger delivers clear information to us and it can be used to create incredible things in the world.
If we are to consciously live.
Then the invitation is to try to understand that information and to embrace that energy and express it consciously.
Let that sink in for a moment.
How to express it.
Consciously.
Many highly sensitive people like myself are feeling anger in some form right now or have in the recent past.
Sometimes it shows up clearly,
Like frustration,
Outrage,
And other times it's quieter and more subtle.
For me lately,
It's been heaviness,
A tendency to withdraw,
Even fatigue,
And when turned very much inward,
Even depression.
And I want to name something important right away.
Today is not about fixing anger or resolving it or even deciding what to do with it.
It's about learning how to meet anger without becoming it.
Because ultimately we are not our emotions,
Any emotion.
For highly sensitive people,
Anger isn't usually reckless or careless.
It's often the voice of something wiser inside us saying,
Hey,
A boundary has been crossed.
What makes anger overwhelming isn't always the emotion itself.
It's when we feel it without grounding,
Without a place for it to land.
So in this episode,
It is an invitation to slow down.
To come out of reaction mode?
And to give anger the kind of attention that allows it to transform or alchemize rather than turn inward or spill outward.
I know from a very young age I was taught that anger is not safe and that a quote,
Good girl,
I put that in air quotes,
Does not get angry.
It's just too much.
It's not spiritual.
And it was either suppressed or explained away.
But anger is not the opposite of compassion.
But ungrounded anger can be.
At its core,
Anger is boundary wisdom.
It's a life force responding to something that may feel threatening,
Unjust,
Or misaligned.
And when anger has nowhere to go,
It can often turn inwards.
It could become self-blame,
Numbing out,
Depression,
And exhaustion,
Whether that's physically or mentally.
So if you have been feeling heavy or shut down,
It doesn't mean something is wrong with you.
It may mean anger has been asking.
For acknowledgement,
Not action just yet.
I think sometimes we often jump into action.
But presence.
It's also important to name that much of the media and information we consume that we are exposed to,
Usually by choice,
Is specifically designed to trigger strong emotional responses.
Mostly fear and anger.
That doesn't mean those emotions aren't valid,
But it does mean that sensitive nervous systems have limits.
I have a very small limit of how much media I can consume without getting overwhelmed.
Part of honoring anger as wisdom is knowing how much input we can metabolize and when to step back.
And it's not because we don't care.
I care deeply about the state of our world.
However,
Because I do care so deeply,
I want to learn to respond from clarity rather than over-emotional activation.
Before we take action,
Before we come to any conclusions,
We need to ground.
So let's shift gently out of the thinking mind and into our body.
You can keep your eyes open if that feels better.
Or you might even let your gaze soften or look at something neutral in the room that you're in.
Begin by noticing your feet,
Especially the soles of your feet.
Feel where they may have contact with the floor,
And even imagine it rooting down into the support of the earth.
The earth is our ultimate energy of grounding.
Notice the weight of your body being held.
Maybe buy a chair.
Or gravity itself.
Take a slow breath in through the nose.
And as you exhale,
Imagine the breath moving downward,
Down your legs,
Down your feet,
And into the ground beneath you for support.
You don't need to push away any emotions that arise.
And ask yourself gently.
Where does this anger or intense emotion live in my body right now?
There's no right answer,
Just notice.
Where does this anger or intense emotion live in my body right now?
And know that it could be in multiple places.
You are not feeding the story.
You are tending this energy.
Noticing presence in this grounded clarity.
You don't have to have any answers.
Or any action list.
When we can sense where these emotions are in our body without attaching it to a story.
This is how anger becomes discernment.
This is how sensitivity becomes an inner strength.
I offer you this reminder.
Say it to yourself if you'd like.
I am allowed to feel without rushing to act.
I can be grounded before I respond.
Let's take one more deep breath in.
And a cleansing breath out,
Feeling that energy ground you as you step into your day.
Thank you for taking this time to listen inward with me.
Remember,
You don't need to have the answers today.
Your self-awareness is already doing the work that it needs to.
As always,
Blessings on your healing journey.
