Break Free From Morning Dread

With Mark Rowland

Some mornings, dread arrives before you’ve even got out of bed. Your mind moves ahead to everything waiting for you, and getting started feels harder than it should. In this three-day course, we’ll work through that moment step by step. First, you’ll learn to notice when your thoughts have raced into the day ahead and use your senses to return to the room you’re in. Then we’ll explore the pressure to feel calm before you can begin, practising a kinder response to anxiety that may still be present. Finally, you’ll learn how to choose one small, specific action and take it without needing to have the whole day figured out. Each lesson combines a short teaching with a guided practice and something practical to carry into your morning. You can listen while sitting up in bed or wherever you feel comfortable. The aim is to give you a way to begin your day, even when dread has arrived first.

Lesson 2

Make Room For The Morning You Have

Morning anxiety can become harder when you feel pressured to calm down before your day can begin. In this lesson, you’ll practise acknowledging what is present without judging yourself or repeatedly checking whether it has passed. A guided practice will help you respond to your body with greater care, choose a kinder pace, and identify one practical way to support yourself through the morning.

Lesson 3

Take The First Small Step

When morning dread leaves you frozen or circling through everything that needs doing, beginning with one clear action can make the day feel more manageable. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to reduce a vague or overwhelming task to a specific first movement, work gently with resistance, and prepare to take that step as the practice ends.
