This meditation will help you to fully feel a tense feeling that is present in your body. By letting go of the thoughts that it brings up and the labels that come with it, you will be able to feel the feeling as it is - as a ball of energy appearing in pure Awareness - and release it from your experience.

How to feel your feelings?

First,

I'd like to thank you for doing this meditation because it means that to some degree you have understood that thinking about emotions,

Judging aspects of our experience,

Being sad,

Being angry,

And projecting our feelings outside of us doesn't really help.

It may temporarily help the feeling diminish,

But ultimately we have to be still,

We have to sit with it,

Feel it fully before it is completely released.

The first and most important step in order to do so is to know your true self.

To know that your self is not the body,

Not the mind.

It is the awareness which knows them.

And therefore what happens in the body and the mind does not affect or change that awareness.

This first step will not be the focus of this meditation but please see my profile and other meditations here to deepen your understanding of your true changeless self.

Knowing your true self means that you can dive deep into the mind and the body and allow them to unfold,

To open up,

To release tensions,

To become more and more free.

And this is the focus of this meditation.

If you haven't already,

Take a deep breath in and close your eyes.

Take a few more deep breaths just to feel the body,

Relax it as much as possible,

And feel the breath going into the belly.

Now you may already begin to notice thoughts that are resisting this process.

Let the thoughts be there but keep focusing on the body.

What matters in this meditation is not the thoughts but the feeling underneath.

Maybe there are thoughts of being hurt,

Of having done the wrong thing,

Of not being worthy of something.

Whatever they are,

It doesn't matter.

Keep falling down with your awareness into your body,

Into the feeling that you're feeling.

You can focus in on the feeling so much that the physical body almost dissolves around it.

And when you do this,

The label of feeling dissolves as well.

What you start feeling is more of an energy,

A sensation in awareness.

Keep breathing deeply.

Feel this ball of energy,

This sensation exactly as it is.

If your body wants to move as you're doing this,

Let it move.

Watch the ball of energy move,

Change,

Or remain as it is.

Sit with it in this way for as long as it takes.

What this ball of energy really wants is your attention.

Your love,

Your acceptance of it.

And until you give it your love and your attention,

It is shifting your perception,

It is veiling what is true.

It is giving rise to thoughts that drive your focus,

Your attention in a negative way,

Judgmental thoughts.

So keep feeling it.

Keep allowing it to be.

It is only passing through.

And as you feel it,

You can focus on what is behind this ball of energy,

The awareness which knows it,

Which is infinite and changeless.

That natural and innate peace is what the ball of energy temporarily veils.

But ultimately,

Being ever-present,

Your true self,

Awareness itself will always prevail.

The stillness of the unseen is all that there is.

Thank you once again for listening.

Hold the feeling, love the feeling, as you describe, reminds me of Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings.
