Now is a chance to settle and ground,

To center and breathe.

Inhale,

Exhale.

Welcome to a hit of hope,

And this one is salty.

Anybody else out there feel lost?

Like you don't know where to go,

Or what to do,

Or even who you are anymore?

The Oxford English Dictionary ominously defines lost as that which has perished or been destroyed,

That which has gone to ruin.

In other words,

There's a deadness associated with loss,

And the idea that what was once beautiful has now turned into something falling apart.

Inhale,

Exhale.

There's also this sense with lost that things have been done in vain,

Time wasted doing the wrong thing.

And let's not forget that lost can mean a person was handed a defeat,

Someone else bested you.

Well,

Isn't this as cheerful as fuck?

Inhale,

And exhale.

We can,

Of course,

Be literally lost.

Somewhere in the world,

We just don't know where,

And we can't find our way to wherever it is we want to be going.

We can also be mentally lost,

Spiritually lost,

Emotionally lost.

Lost in everyday demands,

The never-changing ordinary.

Inhale,

Exhale.

In times like this,

It might be tempting to do what my daughter once did when she was young,

Something I think I might have shared here before.

She was in the house alone,

And she turned on the oven at my request.

Something had spilled on the bottom of the oven,

And smoke started to billow out.

My daughter went to the garage door and opened it once or twice.

Then,

In her own words,

She laid down to die.

Inhale,

Exhale.

When we feel lost,

It can be so tempting to just give up.

We find ourselves there,

In a place located away,

And there's the sense of being banished from here,

A here where we feel safe,

At home,

At ease,

Full of life and joy,

And this centered sense of who we are,

And knowing our place in the world.

Inhale,

Exhale.

To move from a sense of feeling lost there,

To being present here,

We do not have to move our body one inch.

It requires an inner shift.

It asks us to be right where we are,

To be exactly who we are.

You might protest,

But I don't know who I am,

Or maybe it might be more truthful to say,

I don't like who I am.

Inhale,

Exhale.

Know this.

At your core,

You are a bright spirit,

Full of life and light.

Let me repeat that.

At your core,

In the center of your being,

You are full of life and light.

Inhale,

Exhale.

To move away from feeling lost,

And lost,

Trust that innate sense of goodness inside.

Live here now.

That can be so damn hard to trust that sense of goodness at the core of our being,

But it is in you.

Trust it.

You might not know what's coming next.

You might not know who you are anymore,

Or where it is you want to go.

That's okay.

Trust me,

That's okay.

Breathe.

Be ground in this place.

Ground in this now,

In this breath,

In this body,

In this moment.

Make this here,

This now,

Feel like home.

Please listen to me.

Make this here,

This now,

Feel like home.

You are safe.

You are okay.

You are enough.

If you are feeling lost,

Please,

Believe me,

You are safe.

You are okay.

You are enough,

As you are,

Right here,

Right now.

Inhale,

Exhale.

Live light and shine.

Lost. Tired. Definitely not enough. How do you tune so precisely into my life and needs? How is it that, after the three days I've had, I lay down to meditate tonight, after a long, migraine-and-nausea-filled day, to find you describing my heart and soul's emptiness so perfectly? Life happens for me, that's how. Even the recent parts I so despise are, at their core, what needs to happen for me to free myself from this morass of self-loathing and fear. Once more, you've struck center-target. Now all I have to do is some of the hardest shit I've ever done; to believe in myself again. Thank you, Betsy. It ain't gonna be easy, but I knew that part already. Not doing it is even harder.

Dear sweet Betsy. I’m so grateful for your “hits of hope”. This one in particular really spoke to me, especially the piece with your beautiful daughter. I lost my beautiful 20 year old baby girl last May and you have gotten me through a year of sheer hell. The fact that you know what hell is like, with all you’ve been through means even more. Thank you for keeping me sane. Thank you for sharing yourself with our community. Sending you so much love and light, and my never ending thanks 🙏🏻🕊🪷💖
