Confusion of the mind is not new but today, it feels louder than ever. In this audio, we share a simple teaching passed down by an Indigenous elder that offers a clear, practical way to work with the mind when it feels restless, overwhelmed, or scattered. This is not a technique to force calm or bypass reality. It’s an ancestral perspective on using the mind wisely so it becomes an ally rather than a source of exhaustion. A grounding episode for anyone feeling mentally overloaded, searching for clarity, or wanting a more harmonious relationship with their thoughts. Spoken by Alex Preciado & Laura Hoyos.

All human beings,

All of us,

From the beginning of time,

Have experienced confusion in one way or another.

Confusion is the lack of clarity of how we can live well on our path on this earth.

And so,

Throughout time,

Leaders have established ways in which we can plant or direct our thoughts.

And religions and philosophies have appeared,

Traditions.

And like this,

Throughout all of the times of humanity,

There have always been other people telling us the best way to live,

The best way to act.

And this is how the conditioning started to be born.

Everything that has conditioned our way to see life the way we think.

And we have arrived in this point where what confuses us the most as humanity is our thoughts,

Our scattered thoughts.

We're going to speak about a teaching from an elder.

An indigenous elder from the Putumayo rainforest,

Amazon rainforest in Colombia.

When I lived with the indigenous people,

I was in my search.

But I had so much information,

So many ways and conditioning ideas that came from so many sources.

That I experienced very huge overwhelm in my thinking.

Because I didn't know what I should follow to live a good life.

And I tried many different things.

That came from many different traditions and religions and writers.

Until there came a moment where I felt lost.

And one time I asked an elder,

I said,

Grandfather,

What is the best way to direct my thoughts?

Because I feel like I'm going crazy.

And the elder smiling,

He gave me a teaching that changed my life.

Hijo,

The elder said,

My child,

There are two powerful ways to direct or to do with your thoughts.

¿Cuáles son,

Abuelo?

And what are they?

I said.

La primera.

The first one.

La más poderosa.

The most powerful one.

Es silencia tu mente.

Is to make silence in your mind,

He said.

Haz silencio,

Hijo.

Make silence.

Y yo le pregunté,

Abuelo,

And I said,

Grandfather,

What does that mean,

To make silence in my mind?

Entonces yo le dije,

Abuelo,

¿no pensar?

So I asked,

Grandfather,

Is it to not think?

El abuelo dijo,

No.

And the elder said,

No.

El pensar es natural,

Es fluido.

He said,

Thinking is natural,

It's fluid.

Thinking,

Your thoughts will always flow naturally like the air that comes in and goes out.

Simplemente sucede.

It simply happens.

So our thoughts are a vibration that is flowing through us.

En sí,

Silenciar la mente.

In itself,

To make silence in your mind.

Does not consist of fighting with this natural act of life.

Consiste en el enfoque.

It consists of focus.

Simply focus your mind,

Focus your thoughts on something that feels good.

Escucha el viento,

Dijo el abuelo.

Listen to the wind,

Said the elder.

Y el pensamiento va a retornar.

And the thoughts will come back.

Es normal.

It's normal.

But you return once again to listen to the wind.

O los pájaros.

Or the birds singing.

O el río.

Or the river.

O si estás en tu casa,

Puedes poner una música bonita,

Suave y escuchar esa melodía.

Or if you are at home,

Play some music that you can listen to,

That is soothing,

That you like,

That you can listen to.

Es encontrar un punto de enfoque.

It is to find a point of focus.

Pero que sea divertido.

But make it fun,

Make it enjoyable.

It's not about making an effort that will drain you.

Que sea divertido.

Make it fun.

Make sure that you are enjoying the sounds that you're listening to.

O puedes enfocarte en tu respiración,

Que el aire entra y sale.

You can focus also on your breath,

Feel the air that comes in and goes out.

Pero disfruta el acto de respirar.

And enjoy the act of breathing.

Ponte consciente del deleite de respirar.

Become conscious of the natural delight of breathing.

And so the mind starts to calm down and become silent little by little.

Y lo que va a suceder.

And what will happen.

Is that you will begin to feel peace.

You will begin to feel well-being that comes from everywhere.

Vas a empezar a sentir amor.

You will begin to feel love.

Así que enfócate hasta que sientas paz.

So focus until you feel peace.

And this is a fine use that you can give to your thoughts.

Silenciarlo a través del enfoque.

To silence it through focus.

And in this way the silence becomes your refuge.

And I asked the elder.

And what's the other way?

You mentioned two ways to focus or make use,

The best use of my thoughts.

Because sometimes it's hard to silence my mind or my thoughts.

O es difícil enfocarla.

Or it's difficult to focus it.

Y le dijo el abuelo.

Entonces si te es difícil enfocarte,

Por lo menos piensa bonito.

So the elder said if it's hard for you to focus,

Then at the very least think beautifully.

Pensar bonito.

Think beautifully.

Es alinear tu pensamiento con tu corazón.

This means to align your mind or your thoughts with your heart.

Podemos traer memorias de cosas bonitas.

We can bring memories of beautiful things.

Or we can create visions of things that we dream of for our life.

Siempre podemos sintonizar en algo hermoso.

We can always attune ourselves and resonate with something beautiful.

Como cuando estamos viendo la televisión.

It's like when we are watching TV.

That different channels and possibilities appear.

Many that we don't like.

Pues yo tengo el control,

Yo elijo en que programa sintonizar.

But I have the remote control and I choose what I want to watch.

Asimismo nuestro pensamiento.

In the same way is our thoughts.

Podemos elegir que pensar.

We can choose what to think.

Cuando llegan pensamientos desagradables.

When unpleasant thoughts come up.

No sintonizamos en ellos.

We don't stay there watching and feeding that.

Los dejamos pasar.

We let them pass.

So these two ways of directing our thoughts.

They are the most elevated and beautiful things that we can do to make a fine use of our thoughts.

Always at the beginning it's a little bit harder.

But as we do it and do it and make this into a habit.

Con el tiempo.

Vamos a vernos dueños y señores de nuestra propia vida.

We will see ourselves as owners of our own life.

Silencing our mind gives us a lot of personal power.

Because our thinking flowing in density drains a lot of our energy.

But when we focus that energy stays within us.

Y cuando pensamos bonito.

And when we think beautifully.

That energy is a very elevated resonance that begins to stay within us and impregnates our being.

So we will see ourselves going through life simply more happy and at peace.

Pero eso nace de direccionar nuestro pensamiento.

But this is born from directing our thoughts.

Muchas gracias.

Much.
