In this video you will learn how to practice Yoga Nidra to get the most benefit. Traditionally, we practice Yoga Nidra lying down on the back with the legs slightly apart and the arms a little out to our sides. However, it’s no problem if you’re not able to do this posture or it isn’t comfortable for you... Yoga Nidra can also be done lying on your side or sitting. As this practice promotes deep relaxation, please avoid listening while driving.

So how do we practice Yoga Nidra?

Well,

Traditionally,

The practice is done lying down on your back.

With the legs slightly apart and the arms a little out to the sides.

However,

If you can't do that posture or it's not comfortable for you,

No problem at all.

You can also do it lying on your side,

Or sitting,

Or with your knees bent,

For example,

If your lower back is uncomfortable.

I've often worked with pregnant women who usually prefer to do yoga nidra lying on their side with a pillow between their knees.

In my Yoga Nidra sessions,

We do what I call making a nest for ourselves.

And this is where we make the body really cosy and comfortable and supported.

Using pillows and blankets and cushions and an eye mask.

However,

We don't want to make the body so comfortable that we just immediately fall asleep as soon as we start the practice.

So what we're looking for is that sweet spot where our body feels comfortable enough to relax deeply.

But we can also remain present and aware.

The encouragement is to make a commitment to stillness during the practice.

So if an impulse to move arises,

See if you can stay with that feeling before you move.

And if you do need to move.

.

.

See if you can do that really slowly and with awareness.

Now you can practice Yoga Nidra anywhere and many people practice in bed if they're using the practice to fall asleep.

But if you're not using it to fall asleep,

Then it's better probably if you don't practice in the bedroom or on the bed.

And in that case it's better to be on the floor or on a sofa or sitting in a chair perhaps.

Otherwise,

Once you're in your nest,

The rest is really easy.

All you have to do is lie back.

Listen.

Receive and enjoy.

Lots of love.
