This is a cleverly designed meditation that allows for either deep rest or falling asleep, depending on what a person needs in a given situation. Because there is no bell or wake-up guidance at the end, it can serve both purposes beautifully. This is ideal for someone like me, who doesn’t always know beforehand whether more sleep will be possible, either because of inner psychological constraints or limited time.
I’ve been happily exploring Amanda’s offerings on Insight Timer, enjoying her mellifluous voice and smooth enunciation. In a few of her meditations, I’ve found the music a little too prominent, which tends to distract me and interfere with relaxation. This one, though, strikes just the right balance between her mellow, perfectly slow-paced, almost hypnotic vocal guidance and a soft melody (which I take to be a Native American flute), set against a background of gently ebbing and flowing crickets.
