In an article from the journal, Frontiers in Psychology, researchers found that breathing at a rate of 4 breaths per minute can improve sustained attention, affect, and cortisol levels, a hormone that impacts our stress (Ma, et al., 2017). Taking a pause like this to slow your breathing rate regulates and relaxes your body. It works by distracting your mind as you follow the musical cues, calming your nervous system, and bringing you into the present moment. This meditation provides an original musical composition that gradually slows the tempo/breathing rate with some initial guidance from me to get us started. Find a comfortable position, relax your shoulders, and take a deep breath. Let's begin.
