And welcome to my visualization exercise on achieving your personal goals.
Setting goals is something that most of us have done in our lives before.
However,
It's something that unfortunately we don't always attain.
This visualization technique will give you new insights and new mental strategies to help you overcome obstacles and achieve your goals.
This scientifically backed mental practice is called WOUP.
Wish,
Outcome,
Obstacle and plan.
When we understand and visualize these four steps in the goal setting process,
We're able to plan for obstacles and achieve our goals regardless.
Before we begin,
I invite you now to take five big deep belly breaths.
In through the nose and out through the mouth.
In through the nose and out through the mouth.
In through the nose and out through the mouth.
In through the nose and out through the mouth.
In through the nose and out through the mouth.
Allow the tension in your body to dissipate.
This technique is able to be used over and over again as a visualization to achieving even your biggest dreams.
Now,
I invite you to focus your attention on your current wish.
Visualize your goal.
I want you to really explicitly visualize here the outcome of achieving this goal.
If you achieve this goal,
How will it make you feel?
Embody that feeling now.
Really feel in your body,
In your mind,
In your heart,
How it will feel to achieve this goal.
What might your life look like if you achieve this goal?
Visualize this for me now.
Who is a part of this goal?
How will your life change?
Visualize what your life would look like if you were to achieve this goal.
I really want you to not only think about this goal,
But to feel the emotions of what it would feel like to achieve it.
To see this goal playing out in your mind's eye.
I want you to visualize and embody this goal like you've already achieved this success.
Let the feelings,
Let the thoughts flood through your body.
Celebrate achieving this goal.
Now that you've visualized what it would look like and feel like to achieve this goal,
I want you to think now of some of the obstacles that may get in your way.
When we think of obstacles that may get in our way,
These include things like our behaviors.
If our goal is to lose weight or if our goal is to achieve a certain promotion in our business,
What are some of the obstacles that may come up that might serve as a roadblock to us achieving these goals?
I want you to visualize these now in your mind's eye.
Put yourself in the moment.
What might these obstacles feel like when they come up?
Will they make you feel tired?
Will they make you feel frustrated or exhausted?
Or perhaps angry?
Or maybe the emotions are deeper than that.
Perhaps these emotions make you feel sad.
Perhaps they make you feel worthless.
These are valid,
But it's important that we understand what obstacles may come up and deeply understand how they might trigger responses in us.
Now that you've had an opportunity to visualize and understand some of the obstacles and roadblocks that may stand in the way of you achieving your goal,
I want you to think of some reasonable plans of action that will help us to overcome these roadblocks when they occur.
If one of your goals is to lose weight and an obstacle may be feelings of fatigue,
Or perhaps you just don't have enough time,
What is something that we can do to help us overcome this roadblock so it doesn't stop us from achieving our goal?
Perhaps when we're feeling tired,
We'll allow ourselves five deep breaths and try and do something low velocity,
Like take a short walk in nature.
Remember,
Goals are achieved when we take small incremental steps every single day in the right direction.
Our goals won't be achieved overnight.
They'll be achieved through perseverance.
They'll be achieved through persistence.
And they'll be achieved when we try,
Over and over again,
To become a better version of ourselves each and every day.
Each and every day.
Every single day of our lives we face obstacles and roadblocks.
It takes real courage to overcome these and continue to pursue our goals.
However,
When we're able to plan for obstacles,
We give ourselves the tools and the strategies to continue moving ourselves in the right direction.
Now that you understand how good it feels,
How good your life would be and what it would look like if you were to achieve your ultimate goals,
And you also know what obstacles are likely to come in your way,
You now have the strategies to put into practice when these show up,
To help you incrementally move towards your goals each and every day,
Even if they're small steps.
All steps forward are progress towards our goals.
