This is another mindfulness meditation practice using the touch,
Sensation.
Mindfulness is about directing our attention in the present moment and making discoveries about what sensations we are feeling and what thoughts and emotions we are having.
And when distractions occur,
We just let them go.
It's easy to say.
It's why we'll practice again one sensation,
One sense at a time and alternate with objectless meditation,
Just resting the mind.
So I would ask you to choose an object,
It could be a coin,
A leaf,
A piece of fruit,
Anything that is now here nearby,
So we can explore the physical sensation of touch.
Why do we do that?
It's a good way to ground yourself in present experience and appreciate love's richness.
The purpose of this session is not to appreciate its objective beauty or history,
No,
It's simply to attend to what you perceive with your sense of touch in a spirit of neutral observation.
Does it feel warm or cool?
That object that you are having in your hand maybe rarely receives your full attention.
Now it becomes part of your meditation and then we realize meditation isn't something elevated above real life,
It's a closer engagement with life,
We just experience simple things with intenser awareness.
Is the surface rough or smooth?
What's the texture like?
Open your sense of touch,
Let that object lie on your hand without manipulating it,
Notice its weight,
Maybe again just attend to its temperature,
Does it feel warm or cool?
Are there variations in temperature over its surface?
Can you feel it maybe warming or cooling as you hold it?
And treat all these sensations,
Whether pleasant or not,
With equanimity.
Are there scratchy parts?
How do the edges feel compared with the center?
Is it hard or soft to touch,
Damp or dry?
Just notice again shape and size,
Maybe look at it from different angles,
Turn it in your hand,
Watch its shape change and then I invite you to leave the object aside,
So that we come to the objectless meditation,
When we are not using an object,
We are just resting the mind with unique awareness,
Just resting,
Just relaxing,
Allowing whatever happens to occur,
Whatever thoughts or emotions,
But there is still some presence,
We can maybe describe as center of your awareness,
Although you are not focused on an object,
You are not distracted by your thoughts and emotions,
You are aware,
You are present to what's happening in the here and now.
And now maybe we can engage again,
Maybe we can start by attending to the touch of your clothes on your skin,
We can move on to your surroundings,
You could choose the same object or maybe take something else that's within your reach,
Maybe this time close your eyes once you found a suitable object to focus,
Close your eyes,
How does it feel,
Without trying to put a name or compare it,
Just for yourself,
Feel it,
Feel the different parts,
Mindfully,
With curiosity,
With friendly curiosity,
Attend to the sensations in your hand,
As you feel warm or cool,
Experience that object,
Its shape,
Its texture,
Attending mindfully to its sensory dimensions,
Is there anything else to explore,
Just notice if there is something else,
We can put it aside and then again,
Just let mind be as it is,
Allowing it to stay,
To abide,
To rest,
We rest the mind naturally,
In a state of relaxed awareness,
We can be aware of various thoughts,
Feelings and sensations,
Without getting caught up in them,
We rest the mind simply as it is,
If anything comes up,
Just allow it to be,
Allow yourself to be aware of it,
There is some clarity,
Natural clarity,
This natural clarity is always present for us,
The awareness,
Rest the mind,
Whatever passes through,
Don't focus on it,
Don't try to suppress it,
Observe it as it comes and goes,
Open to all the possibilities of the present moment,
Not criticizing or condemning ourselves,
If and when we follow after thoughts,
It's very,
Very normal,
Very natural,
We just come back to our intention to rest the mind,
Again and again and again.
Thank you.
