This is an inspirational guided piece, taken from my course "The Subtle Art of Discernment". I will take you on a journey towards a better understanding of how outside influences may lead us to believe that we are lesser than we really are. Through this 25 minute piece, you will be encouraged to recall, remember and champion the brilliance of you; in all the small yet important places. So you can step upon your stage, as the leading person in the story of your own life, and receive your beautiful crown of laurel leaves. This can be used as a nightly activity, where you will set the scene for your own crowning ceremony for the day just experienced. You will crown yourself for being the you, that you already are! Taken from my course,

Nature's Rebel and the Subtle Art of Discernment,

This lesson is called Rest on Your Laurels.

Working with self-deprecation,

Self-criticism,

Catastrophizing,

Focusing on the negative,

Social unease,

Contracts and constraints,

High expectations,

Rigid standards,

And potential for burnout.

Calling in,

Celebration of self,

Taking stock,

Acknowledging achievement,

Self-appreciation,

Maximizing benefits,

Promoting positive mindset and divination,

Color evergreen,

Animal medicine the starfish,

Plant medicine the laurel.

This is a great process to follow,

As the very last thing you do just before sleep,

Knowing that at this point of the day,

You've got nowhere else that you need to go,

And that all of the must-do's of that day may as well be released,

As you are no longer in the position to be called to action them.

You can simply be still,

In your warm and cozy bed,

Accompanying yourself with only your chosen thoughts,

Lying in your bed in the way that is of most comfort to you now.

If you choose to be on your side,

Rest a hand under your head,

With your cheek and temple nesting into its palm.

If laying on your back,

Place both hands behind your head,

As if bathing in the sun.

I am now going to invite you to begin to gently recall only the events of today where you felt you achieved,

No matter how small and seemingly insignificant the event or moment.

It is often the small things we miss,

So the smaller the better.

The greatest gifts often come in the smallest packages,

And the incremental fire of genius is born from the smallest spark.

So consider your moments of self-care,

Your moments of creativity,

Of overcoming challenge,

Of kindness,

Patience,

Bonding.

Consider your moments of showing up,

Rising above,

Letting go,

And preparation.

Your moments of bravery,

Vulnerability,

Of advocacy,

Of change of perspective,

Solution,

And action.

Cherry-pick your moments of effective pacing,

Healthy or aligned choice,

Deep nourishing rest,

And perhaps of a subsequent uprising,

And of the treats you may have gifted to yourself today as an act of self-acknowledgement,

Or quite simply,

Just because.

As you are calling them forward,

I'd like you to imagine all of these moments collecting into a cocktailed mix,

And this cocktail is cupped into the palm of your hands that are also supporting your head.

If you like,

You can imagine this as if you were foraging in your very own forest,

And with a cupped hand,

You are collecting that which you like the look of,

That which feels like a feast for your eyes,

That which you feel will nourish your body.

The very act of foraging in this way brings a joy to your heart,

And the more you forage,

The more you educate yourself as to what best feeds and nourishes all the layers of you.

With each subsequent time you go off into the woods,

You continue to grow in self-awareness,

And thus you continue to grow in benefit from the fruits of your labour.

The fact that you are consciously foraging for these fruits from your own forest is yet another one of today's achievements,

And so add this into your already awaiting hands too.

Now bring your thoughts back to your warm and comfortable bed,

Your head gently nesting,

And continue to add more and more of these delicious morsels to your hands.

All you have to do is keep adding,

And watch as the delicious elixir begins to spill over your palms and up through and around your wrists.

I will give you a little time with this.

Once you have collected all you can,

Lay there for a while and bask,

Knowing that the potent mixture is all the while enhancing from this very act of self-celebration.

This elixir is growing in power because you have chosen to acknowledge and champion you.

All the tiny things begin to alchemise into a persuasive and influential blend.

It is a force for good that we so often throw back out into the world too soon,

Before we have really had chance to absorb its nourishing goodness.

So we allow it now to keep flowing through and within our container-cupped hands.

We invite it to stay with us,

For we are in no rush.

The magic that you hold in the palm of your hands now wishes to be reabsorbed.

You welcome this.

And so,

It begins to soak back into the skin of your face and your gently supported head.

As it enters,

It swirls with abundance and joy within you,

Sweeping and swirling around inside your skull.

Its desire to fully celebrate you is undeniable.

As you welcome this celebration,

It arises again,

Spilling back out through your tingling hair follicles and out through the pores of your skin,

Encircling itself around and around your head to form a crown of laurel leaves.

And like the Greek god Apollo,

You allow yourself to simply rest back in the waves of your own crowning glory,

In a deep and profound celebration of you.

All too often,

We undersell ourselves for fear of being too much,

Bypassing our brilliance as something not worth noting or promoting.

Sometimes the world around us is set up to make us feel like we must stay smaller than our full potential,

Or that our full potential is only good enough upon application,

Before the next thing is again demanded and expected from us in its place.

And we are left feeling rushed,

Undervalued,

Underacknowledged,

Used and unseen.

Or we believe we are not enough,

Because our efforts do not appear to match up to the unending sense of demand,

That our offering does not seem to hold enough meaning to carry over,

That we are not displaying a solid enough purpose to sustain the test of time,

That we are not giving enough to feed all the needy.

And so we may believe that we are not really looking like we know how to do life.

Maybe we have been led to believe that success,

Value,

Worth and purpose should look a certain prescribed way,

With a seemingly recognisable to most set of fixed social structures,

Behaviours,

Relationships,

Duties and shiny belongings and outcomes in place.

We so easily allow the moments of little wins to pass us by.

We do not think to,

Or have the time to,

Grab a hold of them and really look at them and say,

Let me really take stock of this.

This is good.

No,

This is great.

I did this.

Wow.

Rather we barge,

A multitask tier our way through our day,

Running from one place to the next,

Leaving all our moments of scattered brilliance in the dust trails behind us,

Or discarded as if crumbs to be hidden under the next freshly laid tablecloth.

And when our body finally stops,

Because the day hours command rest,

Often our fast mind simply cannot slow.

The monkey mind,

In its relentless do mode,

Tasks itself to hunt for failures,

To scan the day just gone by for blips,

Places big and small,

Where improvements to self must be employed.

The places where we should have done bigger,

Better,

Faster,

More.

Our eager to please another ego may choose to focus and hold on to what it believes went wrong in that day,

So it can aspire tirelessly to offer a better looking future you.

And we trouble ourselves into this space of futility,

Wanting to change the past,

Desperately trying to rewrite the day's story in our mind,

Because we have told ourselves a story written in failed day pieces.

We begin to lose ourselves in the belief that we were not the successful leading person in the story of our own life.

This way of thinking,

The ruminating and unkind pick-pick-unpicking,

Gradually erodes away at our available energy and our own sense of empowered self.

And this may very well deliver us unto sleep,

In a state of dissatisfaction,

Deflation,

Regret,

Apology and disappointment.

This state of perceived shortcomings,

That focuses only on what we are not,

Further saps at our already lagging end-of-day energy,

Leaving us even less resource to rise above the lure of the tiring mind's darker voices.

And it is this that we then carry into what otherwise could have been our replenishing and progressive prolific dream space.

The laurel wreath symbolises a triumph that is bestowed upon its victor.

It crowns as a symbol of overcoming adversity and hardship.

Of a rising above that is propelled by the power of the human spirit.

So let's go to bed,

Telling ourselves an entirely different story tonight.

So we,

Like the energy of the laurel,

Can prophesise the look of our own future by selecting what it is that we like the feel of and what we want more of.

Let's shape-shift our focus and let's let the laurel-leaved crown of your king-queen archetype do the talking.

Let's show ourselves this leadership for our own chosen life's story.

Let's be the leading authority to the voices within.

Let's be our sovereign self,

So we can dream the dreaming of kings and queens,

Of gods and goddesses,

Upholding supportive order and empowered progressive vision.

Let us set the scene that will awaken us into a brand new day,

Already victorious.

When this type of leadership energy repeatedly feeds back into our end-of-day tiring system,

It creates the perfect-shaped pocket within which we can then do our night-time dreaming.

The spark space where our subconscious calls forward and delivers out even more of what we have put in.

In this case,

We are feeding our dreams with what we already are.

The laurel holds powerful spiritual meaning.

As an evergreen,

It symbolises self-renewal,

Regenerating itself from its old roots.

It speaks to us of resilience,

Recycling and rebirth.

That when the time is right,

And when our resources are nourished and sufficiently restored,

We can utilise that held space of radical acceptance to our own brilliance to create even more greatness for ourselves and for this world.

In this positive feedback loop,

The movement from the original meaning of resting on your laurels to the one that later implied that one became complacent,

Lazy or self-righteous as a result of resting too long in their basked past achievements,

Does not factor.

As we have understood here,

That in acknowledging and validating our many,

Many moments in life,

We have actually served to create more available similar energy space.

Even more available aligned brilliance.

Giving us the confidence of a growing sense of purpose from which we can then shine more of our existing light back over our own life.

And this beacon of light serves to direct us forwards.

Towards more of what we have told it brings us joy and fulfilment and meaning.

This light also shines out onto a world that is so ready and waiting to be illuminated by you.

So it's time now to crown you for being you.

Enough of the what-ifs,

Should-haves and involuntary shaming-shudders.

It's time to crown you for achieving what you deem to dream as important,

Valuable,

Funny,

Progressive,

Interesting,

Sweet,

Healing,

Helpful,

Brave and in any big or small way,

Worthy of more acknowledgement.

It is time to let go of reaching for prescribed standards.

To free yourself from comparison or expectation.

And to feel into this new framework of merit.

Based only on your acceptance,

Appreciation and awareness of the you that you already are.

For this is your valid and very,

Very personal journey.

So as you are lying in your bed,

You can take all the time you need.

You are free from any outside pressures or constraints.

Simply rest back into the cushioning.

Resting your head into the cupped bowl of your hands.

It is you who now gets to choose how this looks.

As you begin to fruitfully forage.

To set the scene and dress the stage for this day's crowning ceremony.

You are being crowned for today's self-selected story.

Written from and for your regenerative evolution.

And with all that you choose to acknowledge.

And from all that you choose to collect.

You are creating the look and the feel of your own future.

Through your own dreaming.

From your own already there brilliance.

And so it goes on.

And on.

And on.
