Once upon a winter day in the shimmering white north pole lived a little polar bear named Poco.

Poco was very excited because today was the day that the great northern lights would dance across the sky.

But he waited and waited but the sky stayed quiet and gray.

Poco stomped his little paws.

I've been waiting forever,

He said.

Just then a wise old snowy owl landed beside him.

Beautiful things,

The owl said softly,

Often take their time.

Poco sighed but he listened.

He sat in the soft snow feeling the cold air on his whiskers.

He took a slow breath in.

While he waited he noticed the things he hadn't before.

The sparkle of the tiny ice crystals,

The gentle hum of the wind,

And the warmth inside his chest even in the cold.

Then a whisper of color brushed the sky.

First blue and then the beautiful color green and then a wonderful shade of purple.

The northern lights appeared swirling like magic paint.

Poco's eyes grew wide.

The owl nodded.

Patience,

The owl said,

Lets us enjoy the world more deeply.

Poco curled up warm and proud.

He learned that some of the best things come slowly and that waiting can also be peaceful and bring us joy.

Thank you for listening and I really hope you enjoyed this short story.
