Welcome to the still point.
This is a meditation to help you get dressed when you're feeling anxious in your body.
If you're listening right now,
You may be standing in front of a closet,
A mirror,
Sitting on the edge of your bed,
Or maybe curled up on the floor,
Paralyzed by what feels like an impossible task,
Getting dressed.
And if you are,
I want you to know this.
You are not alone.
You are not broken.
You are in a vulnerable moment,
And it deserves tenderness,
Not judgment.
Let's start by slowing everything down.
Find a position that feels safe.
You can sit,
Stand,
Lie down,
Whatever your body needs.
Let your arms fall loosely by your sides,
Or rest gently on your lap.
Let your shoulders drop.
Now,
Softly close your eyes,
Or just lower your gaze.
Let's take a few short breaths to anchor ourselves here.
Inhale through your nose,
As deep as you can into your belly,
And exhale slowly out through your mouth.
Again,
Inhale,
Feeling the breath moving down,
Downward.
And exhale,
Releasing it up and out through the crown of your head,
Like a mist lifting from a surface.
One more time,
Inhale,
Creating space.
And now,
Let's check in.
Physically,
What's happening in your body right now?
Is your stomach in knots?
Are your hands shaking?
Is your throat tight,
Or your chest buzzing?
Just notice.
How about emotionally?
What's here?
Shame?
Panic?
Frustration?
Sadness?
What can you feel?
And how do you feel energetically?
How would you describe the feeling beneath the surface?
Frozen?
Overstimulated?
Scattered?
There's no need to fix anything.
We're just naming,
Noticing,
Making space.
Now,
Place one hand on your belly,
And one hand over your heart,
If that feels okay.
Take a deep breath into your hands.
Slow,
Gentle,
Full.
I need you to breathe into those feelings.
Keep breathing.
This is the body you're dressing today.
Not a future version of you.
Not a fantasy version.
This one.
Right here.
And even if you're struggling to accept that,
It's still okay to choose gentleness.
Now gently bring your awareness to the clothing you're about to put on,
Or that you already have on.
Just notice what it feels like against your skin.
Notice the sensations,
Not the stories.
Is it loose?
Tight?
Textured?
Or soft?
Let's breathe in to any part of you that's reacting.
Focus there,
And inhale gently into your belly,
Your chest,
Or wherever you feel tight,
And let your exhale go up through the crown of your head.
Clearing mental static.
Breathe again.
Inhale deep into your belly,
And exhale slowly through the crown of your head.
You may be tempted to tear something off.
To start over.
To spiral.
But right now,
Just pause.
Breathe.
Keep breathing.
With your next breath,
Say to yourself,
I don't need to punish my body for how it feels in clothes.
I'm allowed to dress for safety,
Not performance.
I can choose comfort over conformity.
Let yourself stay with this moment,
Not as a battle,
But as a practice.
If the urge to look in the mirror feels too intense,
Turn away.
If you've already looked,
And are flooded with criticism,
Come back to your breath.
Inhale into your belly,
And exhale slowly out the top of your head.
Visualize your breath gently washing over your body,
Neutralizing the noise.
You don't have to love how you look.
You just need to be in this body with care for today.
Breathe again.
If you're still deciding what to wear,
Ask yourself,
What's going to feel good on my skin?
What's going to let me breathe deeply?
What allows me to exist in this body,
Not escape it?
Let yourself choose based on sensation,
Not appearance.
The outfit you wear today does not have to be brave.
It doesn't have to be flattering.
It just has to help you make it through the next few hours with some peace in your system.
Take another full breath.
Inhale,
Filling your body with softness.
Exhale through the crown of your head,
Releasing whatever shame is ready to lift.
And now,
Say to yourself,
I showed up.
I did not abandon myself,
Even when it was hard.
I can walk through this day in a body that belongs to me.
Let that land,
Your deepest of the day,
And exhale slow,
Full,
Steady,
Clearing space for your next step.
And when you're ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
Look down at what you're wearing or about to wear.
Let it be enough for today.
And know you are never meant to be a walking apology for your body.
You are worthy of softness and of stillness,
No matter what you wear.
