Welcome to the Still Point,
A mirror work meditation for moments of reconnection,
Self-compassion,
And quiet body acceptance.
This is a mirror work practice.
You're invited to meet yourself,
Not as an object,
Not as a project,
But as a person.
A whole human.
A living,
Breathing soul.
Go ahead and find a mirror.
It can be a full-length mirror,
A bathroom mirror,
Or even just a small handheld one.
Stand or sit comfortably in front of it.
Let your arms relax.
Let your shoulders drop.
Before you look up into the mirror,
Let's first begin by checking in.
Physically,
How are you feeling in your body right now?
Is there any tension?
Fear?
Tenderness?
Nervousness?
Just notice for me right now.
How about emotionally?
What's coming up?
Nervousness?
Curiosity?
Numbness?
Just notice.
Whatever's here is allowed.
Let your breath meet it.
Go ahead and take a slow inhale through your nose,
Deep into your belly,
And a long exhale out through your mouth.
Gently raise your eyes to the mirror.
Look into your own eyes.
Not at your body,
Your flaws,
But at you.
If this is uncomfortable,
That's okay.
Just keep breathing.
Inhale into your belly.
Exhale slowly.
You don't need to force anything.
You just need to stay.
Now,
Softly,
Either out loud or in your mind,
Say to yourself,
I see you.
I'm here with you.
You don't need to be fixed to be loved.
If any self-criticism arises,
Notice it,
Like background noise.
Don't engage.
Return to your breath.
Return to your gaze.
Now,
Slowly shift your attention to your whole reflection.
Don't zero in.
Just take in the outline of your body as all.
A body that carries you.
A body that breathes.
A body that stays.
Silently repeat to yourself,
This is the body I live in.
This body is not wrong.
This body is not a mistake.
Place one hand over your heart.
If you feel emotion rising,
Let it.
Tears,
Stillness,
Resistance,
Numbness are all part of this work.
Breathe in again,
Deep into your belly.
And exhale up and out through the crown of your head.
Softening your jaw.
Your throat.
Your chest.
Now,
Return to your eyes.
Let this be your final message to yourself today.
And when I don't like what I see,
I am still worthy.
Even when I struggle,
I will not abandon myself.
This reflection is not an enemy.
It is a home I am learning to inhabit.
Now,
Take one more breath in.
And exhale slowly.
Releasing any pressure or expectation.
Not as an escape,
But as an act of care.
You looked.
You stayed.
You practiced.
And you can come back again tomorrow.
