Welcome.
Begin by allowing yourself to arrive exactly as you are.
Allow yourself to pause from the movement of life.
For just a little while.
You don't need to carry the weight of the past or anticipate the future for these next few moments.
Simply allow yourself to just arrive.
Feel the support beneath your body.
Allow the chair.
The floor.
The Earth itself to hold you.
Take a slow breath in through the nose.
And gently release it.
Again.
Breathe in.
And let the exhale soften you.
Allow the shoulders to drop.
Relax the jaw.
Soften the space around the eyes.
If it feels comfortable.
Allow the breath to become just a little slower.
Especially on the exhale.
The nervous system often softens when we realize we are safe enough to stop bracing for a moment.
And as the body begins to settle.
Notice what it feels like.
To not have to hold everything so tightly.
Even for these few moments.
Recovery teaches us that freedom is not only freedom from substances.
But freedom from bondage.
From obsession.
From old survival patterns that once kept us trapped.
Freedom from constant fear.
From shame.
Freedom from needing to control everything.
Freedom from the exhausting noise of the mind.
We simply practice opening to freedom.
Bring your awareness now to your breathing.
No need to control it,
Just noticing.
The inhale arriving.
The exhale leaving.
Like gentle waves moving toward the shore and back again.
With each inhale,
Imagine space opening inside you.
And with each exhale.
Imagine tension gently draining from the body.
Perhaps the forehead softens,
The chest loosens,
The stomach unclenches.
Allowing yourself to become a little less guarded.
And if thoughts arise.
There's no need to fight them.
Meditation is not about having a perfectly quiet mind.
It's about remembering that your thoughts are not the ruler of your inner world.
As one meditation says.
My mind belongs to me.
Let's take that in slowly.
My mind.
Belongs.
To me.
Not to fear.
Not to obsession.
Not to shame or resentment.
And not to another person's approval.
So often,
The mind becomes crowded.
Replaying conversations,
Worrying about the future.
Trying to control outcomes.
And even reliving the past.
And after a while.
.
.
We can begin to feel imprisoned by our own thinking.
Now let's remember.
Just because a thought enters the mind.
Doesn't mean it gets to rule us.
We are not our thoughts.
We are learning how to observe thoughts without becoming trapped inside them.
To notice fear without becoming fear.
To notice anxiety.
Without believing,
Anxiety defines who we are.
To notice old survival patterns.
Without automatically surrendering to them.
Awareness creates space.
And space creates freedom.
Doorway to freedom.
Now imagine yourself standing on a quiet path.
Notice the ground beneath your feet.
Perhaps it is soft earth,
A forest trail.
Smooth stone.
Or warm grass moving gently in the breeze.
Take a moment to really see it.
The air around you feels calm and open.
You notice the temperature of the air against your skin.
Perhaps sunlight filters softly through the trees.
Perhaps there's a distant sound of wind.
Birds.
Or water nearby.
Everything around you feels spacious.
Safe.
And still.
As you slowly look ahead.
You notice a doorway in the distance.
An old doorway standing alone along the path.
Solid.
Quiet.
Waiting.
You begin walking toward it slowly.
Notice what the doorway looks like.
What color is it?
What texture.
Is the wood weathered and ancient?
Or smooth and strong.
Perhaps there are vines growing around it.
Perhaps the light shines softly around its edges.
Take your time seeing it clearly.
And as you stand before the doorway.
You become aware that behind this door.
.
.
Is freedom.
Not perfection.
Not escape from life.
But freedom from what has kept your spirit confined.
Freedom from old identities.
Old fear.
Old shame.
Old bondage.
Old obsessions.
Old survival patterns that no longer serve you.
You don't need to fight these things.
You simply acknowledge that they no longer need to own you.
Now gently place your hand on the door.
Notice its texture beneath your fingertips.
Feel the steadiness of it.
And when you're ready.
Slowly open it.
As the door opens,
A beautiful field stretches out before you.
Wide.
Endless.
Open.
Golden light moves across tall grasses.
The field sways softly in the breeze,
Like waves across the ocean.
Perhaps wildflowers grow there.
Perhaps mountains rise quietly in the distance.
Perhaps the sky above is vast and impossibly blue.
Take the time to really see it.
Notice the colors.
The movement of the grass.
The softness of the breeze against your skin.
You step into the field slowly.
And with each step.
You feel lighter.
Not because life suddenly becomes perfect.
But because you're no longer carrying everything the same way.
Imagine the weight of fear beginning to loosen.
The weight of shame softening.
The need to control everything dissolving into the open air.
And as you continue walking through the field.
Imagine chains gently falling away behind you.
The chain of self-judgment.
The chain of resentment.
The chain of obsession.
The chain of believing you must earn your worth.
One by one.
They release.
The air feels cleaner here.
Your breathing feels deeper.
Your body feels more open.
And underneath everything.
There is still you.
Whole alive.
Breathing.
And free.
Recovery promises us a new freedom and a new happiness.
Allow yourself now to simply rest in that freedom.
Begin gently bringing awareness back to your breath.
Breathing in.
.
.
And breathing out.
Notice once again the support beneath your body.
The sounds in the room.
The air against your skin.
Freedom is often quieter than we imagine.
Sometimes freedom is simply choosing presence instead of escape.
Acceptance instead of resistance.
Awareness instead of reaction.
And perhaps freedom begins in moments exactly like this one.
Moments where we remember our spirit was never meant to live imprisoned.
Before we close,
Gently reflect.
What am I ready to become freer from?
What would it feel like to trust life a little more?
What might open inside me if I stopped carrying everything alone?
Now take one final deep breath in.
Filling the lungs completely.
And holding for just a moment the top.
And then release with an audible sigh.
Let's do that one more time.
Take one final deep breath in… and hold at the top.
And then exhale with an audible sigh.
Allow the body to soften one last time.
And as you continue forward,
May you remember.
Your mind belongs to you.
Your spirit belongs to something greater.
And freedom begins one conscious breath at a time.
May your higher power express and create in you.
As you.
And within you.
With gratitude and love.
Namaste.
