Welcome.
We're grateful that you've chosen to spend this time here today.
Before we begin,
Allow yourself to simply arrive.
There is nowhere else you need to be.
Nothing waiting for your attention.
Nothing you need to solve.
For these next few moments,
Life can unfold without asking anything more of you.
If it feels comfortable.
Allow your eyes to gently close.
Or simply soften your gaze.
Notice that you're here.
Not yesterday.
Not tomorrow.
Just here.
And now.
Perhaps the mind is busy.
Perhaps today has been full.
Perhaps your body feels tired.
Restless.
Peaceful.
Or somewhere in between.
There is no right way to begin.
Whatever is here.
Is welcome.
Recovery teaches us something beautiful.
We don't begin by becoming different.
We begin by becoming present.
Simply noticing.
This is what's here.
See if you can let this moment be exactly as it is.
Without trying to improve it.
Without wishing it were different.
Without needing to quiet every thought.
Thoughts will come.
Feelings will come.
Sensations will come.
Just as clouds move through the sky,
Allow them to move through your awareness.
Perhaps silently offer yourself these words.
This belongs.
Whatever you're carrying today.
Joy,
Fatigue.
Grieve.
Gratitude.
Uncertainty.
Allow it a place here.
Nothing needs to be pushed away.
Nothing needs to be held on to.
Simply allowing.
Notice that something within you is aware of all this.
The thoughts change.
The emotions change.
The body changes.
But awareness quietly remains.
Rest there for a moment.
Bring your attention now to the simple feeling of being supported.
The chair beneath you.
The floor beneath your feet.
The steady pull of gravity.
The Earth has been holding you your entire life.
Without asking whether you were having a good day.
Without asking if you deserved it.
Simply holding you.
Recovery can feel like that too.
Many of us spent years believing we had to earn love,
Earn acceptance,
Earn peace.
And then one day,
Someone simply pulled up a chair.
Handed us a cup of coffee.
And said,
Keep coming back.
Maybe that's where healing truly began.
Not because we became worthy.
But because we discovered we already belonged.
Allow yourself to feel that belonging now.
You belong here.
You belong in this breath.
You belong in this moment.
Exactly as you are.
Now gently notice the breath.
There's no need to change it.
Simply become curious.
Notice where you feel it most.
Perhaps at the nostrils.
The chest?
The belly,
Feel the coolness as the breath enters.
And the warmth as it leaves.
Allow yourself to ride the rhythm of breathing.
Receiving.
Releasing.
Receiving.
Releasing.
.
.
If it feels natural,
Allow the exhale to become just slightly longer.
Not forcing.
Simply softening.
As though every exhale quietly says,
I am safe enough to let go.
Now allow your awareness to gently expand through the body.
Notice the places that already feel at ease.
Perhaps your hands.
Perhaps your legs.
Perhaps the gentle rise and fall of the chest.
Begin there.
Recovery often teaches us to start with what's already working,
Not what's broken.
Then slowly bring kindness to any places that feel tight.
The jaw.
The forehead.
The shoulders.
The heart.
Not asking them to relax,
Simply letting them know they've been noticed.
If it feels comfortable.
Place one hand over your heart.
The other over your abdomen.
Feel the warmth of your own hands.
Notice the quiet movement beneath them.
Your body has carried you through every season of your life.
Every joy.
Every heartbreak.
Every beating.
Every prayer.
Every difficult day.
Every ordinary day.
It has remained faithful.
Take one slow breath,
Almost as though you're saying,
Thank you.
Notice how grounded you feel now,
Not because you've forced yourself to relax.
But because you've allowed yourself to arrive.
Imagine yourself standing just before sunrise.
The world is still.
The air is cool against your skin.
You can smell damp earth,
Fresh pine,
The sweetness of morning carried on a gentle breeze.
The first light begins touching the tops of the trees.
Everything feels quiet,
Unhurried,
Alive.
Ahead of you stretches a beautiful winding path.
This is not just any trail.
This is the life recovery has solely built.
Not perfect,
But real.
A life you once hoped might be possible.
One breath.
One meeting.
One honest conversation,
One surrendered day at a time.
As you begin walking,
Notice how your feet feel against the earth.
Each step is steady.
Supported.
Intentional.
You don't have to rush.
There is nowhere else you need to get to.
The path itself is enough.
Along the trail.
Memories begin to appear.
Not as pictures.
But as the living moment you can almost step into.
You hear laughter with people who truly know you.
You smell fresh coffee before a morning meeting.
You feel the warmth of a hug after sharing something honest.
You remember waking up without shame.
Keeping your word.
Making amends.
Answering the phone when someone needed help.
Watching a sunset with a clear mind.
Perhaps other moments arise that are uniquely yours.
Take your time with them.
Notice not only what you see,
But what you feel in your body as you remember.
Eventually.
The path opens into a quiet clearing.
At its center stands a magnificent tree.
Its trunk is broad and weathered.
Its roots disappear deep into the earth.
Its branches reach effortlessly toward the morning sky.
Walk slowly toward it.
Place one hand upon its bark.
Feel its roughness,
Its strength.
It's steadiness.
As your hand rests there,
You begin to realize something.
This tree is your sober life.
Not built in a day.
Not built by perfection.
Built through countless small acts of willingness.
Every honest inventory.
Every meeting you almost skipped but didn't.
Every prayer whispered when no words came.
Every time you reached out instead of isolating.
Every morning you began again.
Each one became another ring within this tree.
Quiet strength.
Growing where no one could see.
Then,
Almost unnoticed.
.
.
A breeze begins to move through the branches.
With it comes a familiar whisper.
You're doing fine.
You don't need all this anymore.
Take a break.
You've earned it.
Notice that voice with curiosity.
Not fear,
Not shame.
You know it now.
You've heard it before.
It isn't demanding.
Is simply waits for moments when you're tired.
Busy.
Distracted.
Comfortable.
And then,
Just as quietly as it arrived,
The breeze passes.
The whisper fades.
But the tree remains.
Rooted.
Steady.
Unmoved.
Now kneel beside the tree and place your hand upon one of its great roots.
Ask yourself gently.
What are the roots of my recovery?
Perhaps they are meetings.
Prayer Meditation.
Honesty.
Service.
Connection.
Nature.
A higher power.
Community.
Willingness.
Feel those roots extending deep beneath you.
Anchoring not only the tree,
But you as well.
As you remain there.
Let your awareness expand to take in everything this life now holds.
Relationships that have been restored.
Moments of laughter.
Peaceful mornings.
Integrity.
Freedom from obsession.
The ability to be fully present with another human being.
This is the life recovery has given you.
This is the life worth protecting.
Take a slow breath into your heart.
And quietly ask yourself.
What am I willing to do today to care for this life?
Not forever.
Not next year.
Just today.
Listen.
Don't force an answer.
Simply notice what gently arises.
Feel that answer settling into your body,
Into your heart.
Into your breath.
This is what going to any lengths truly means.
Not living in fear of taking a drink,
But living in love with the life you've been given being sober.
Begin to notice the room around you once again.
The sounds nearby.
The feeling of the chair beneath you.
The gentle movement of your breath.
Take one final slow inhale.
And with a full audible sigh,
Let it go.
As you prepare to open your eyes,
Remember this.
You don't have to protect your recovery by clenching tightly to it.
You protect it by returning again and again.
To the practices that help you stay awake.
Connected,
And present.
One breath.
One choice.
One act of willingness.
One day at a time.
And when you're ready.
Gently wiggle your fingers and toes.
And slowly open your eyes.
May your higher power express and create in you.
As you.
And through you.
With gratitude and love.
Namaste.
