Welcome to Yoga Nidra for deep relaxation,
Nervous system reset,
And ease.
My name is Sarah.
If you find this practice supportive,
You're warmly invited to follow me here on Insight Timer.
I share Yoga Nidra meditations for busy minds and full hearts.
Offering gentle spaces to release stress,
Restore your nervous system,
And return to a sense of calm.
This practice is an invitation to pause,
Especially if your body has been carrying stress,
If your shoulders rarely seem to soften.
If your mind continues planning long after the day is over.
Where if simply making it through each day has begun to feel like hard work.
Responsibilities,
Schedules,
Conversations,
Decisions,
Caring for others,
And the quiet pressure to keep everything moving can gradually teach the nervous system to remain alert.
Always preparing for whatever comes next.
Over time,
The body can become so familiar with effort that deep relaxation begins to feel unfamiliar.
Our nervous systems were never meant to remain in a constant state of doing.
They were designed to move naturally between activity and rest.
Responding when needed,
And softening again when the moment has passed.
Yet so many of us spend so much time carrying responsibilities that the body forgets what it feels like to simply settle.
Yoga Nidra offers an opportunity to remember.
A space where effort can soften.
Where the nervous system can settle.
And where the body can remember what it feels like to simply be supported.
There is nothing you need to accomplish here.
Nothing you need to solve.
Nothing you need to figure out.
Only an opportunity to rest for a little while.
Throughout this practice,
I'll gently guide you through different layers of awareness using breath,
Body scans,
Guided imagery,
And visualization.
There is no way to do this practice wrong.
You don't need to quiet your mind or create a particular experience.
Simply become comfortable and allow yourself to be guided.
Let's begin by taking a quiet moment together.
Today's practice is centered on ease.
Not the kind that comes from finally crossing everything off your list,
Solving every problem,
Or reaching the end of your responsibilities.
But the quiet ease that becomes available when we stop asking ourselves to carry quite so much.
Many of us have learned to believe that rest must be earned.
That ease comes only after everything has been completed.
And that relaxing should wait until there is nothing left to do.
Yet life rarely offers us that moment.
There is almost always one more responsibility.
One more email.
One more thing asking for our attention.
Nature follows a different rhythm.
During this meditation,
We will journey to a peaceful tropical island.
Where warm sand meets the gentle rhythm of the sea.
Palm trees sway effortlessly in the ocean breeze.
Hibiscus flowers bloom beneath the morning sun.
Gentle waves arrive upon the shore and quietly return again.
Each part of the island moving with a natural rhythm that asks nothing to hurry and nothing to strive.
The tide does not rush to reach the shore.
The palm trees do not resist the breeze.
The flowers bloom in their own time.
Everything simply responds to the rhythm of life exactly as it is.
Perhaps your own nervous system remembers this rhythm too.
This practice is not about escaping your life.
It is an invitation to remember that ease isn't something you earn after everything is finished.
Ease is something your body remembers.
One breath.
One moment.
And one gentle pause at a time.
Before we begin our practice,
Let's take a few centering breaths together.
You can rest your hands gently on your lap,
Or if you would like to incorporate a mudra,
You are welcome to take Jala Mudra,
A gesture often associated with the water element,
Flow,
Adaptability,
And ease.
To form this mudra,
Gently bring the tip of your little finger to meet the tip of your thumb.
Allow the remaining fingers to soften naturally without effort.
Rest your hands comfortably on your thighs or knees.
Palms can face upward or downwards.
Whatever feels the most natural for your body.
Jala Mudra reminds us of the quiet wisdom of water.
Water does not struggle to become what it already is.
It flows around obstacles.
Nourishes what it touches.
And moves with a quiet steadiness that does not require force.
Much like water,
Our nervous system naturally knows how to move between activity and rest.
Yet when life asks us to carry more than we were ever meant to hold,
We can forget that rhythm.
Remaining in a state of effort long after the moment has passed.
Nature gently reminds us of another way.
The ocean's waves arrive and quietly return.
The tide follows its own rhythm.
Nothing in his hurry.
Nothing is left behind.
There is movement and there is stillness.
Each arriving exactly when it is needed.
As you hold this simple gesture,
Allow it to become a quiet reminder that ease is not something you have to earn.
Your body already knows this rhythm.
Sometimes the greatest strength comes not from holding on more tightly.
But from softening into the gentle flow that has been within you all along.
You are welcome to listen to the affirmation silently or repeat after me two times.
My body remembers ease.
My body remembers ease.
My body remembers ease.
Now is a good time to set yourself up for our practice so your body can deeply relax while your mind maintains a light thread of awareness.
It can be beneficial to decide in advance whether you would like to use this practice for sleep or if your intention is to remain awake and aware.
In Yoga Nidra,
You are invited to hover in the gentle space between waking and sleeping.
Aware but deeply relaxed.
If you do drift in and out during the practice,
That is completely okay.
Trust that your body will still receive the benefits of the meditation.
Traditional Yoga Nidra is practiced lying down on your back in Shavasana.
It can also be done in a seated position.
Either way,
You should be physically comfortable and in a space that minimizes distractions.
You're welcome to find a position that feels good for your body,
Perhaps on your back or on your side.
You can place a pillow or bolster beneath your knees and a cushion under your head.
It may be nice to make the room dark with a scarf or eye pillow.
You may want to cover yourself with a blanket.
Create a cozy space.
This is your rest nest.
Let's begin with a slow breath in.
And out.
Allow yourself to get comfy.
Make any final adjustments to get as comfortable as you can.
Feel free to move or to adjust anything at any time during this journey to support your comfort.
Moving slowly and mindfully when you move.
Nothing to do and nowhere to be.
Becoming more aware now.
This is a practice of awareness.
Noticing your body resting.
Resting.
Aware of your breath.
Become more and more aware of each level of your being as you are guided through sensations,
Thoughts and feelings.
There is nothing you need to change.
Only notice.
Allow yourself to be the kind observer of all that arises.
Meeting each experience with compassion,
Curiosity,
And acceptance.
Settle into your body.
Settle your body down into the ground.
Feel the ground underneath you.
Holding and supporting you in your practice today.
Feel secure here.
In your body.
Your body on the ground.
Letting go into the ground.
One,
Allow your body to be heavy.
Feel your body.
Letting yourself sink down into the ground.
Letting go.
Two,
Feel your breath.
Feel it flowing through your body.
Feel your breath and its flow.
Three,
Allow your thoughts to settle.
Notice thoughts that are present for you right now.
Aware feelings and emotions.
Touching in with acceptance and kindness.
Four,
Let personality and the roles you play gently soften.
Sensing the quiet awareness that remains.
Spacious Open.
And free.
Five,
Notice a sense of joy.
Feel bliss.
Allow bliss to fill your body.
Bliss filling your whole being.
Imagine yourself now in a place that feels soothing,
Peaceful,
And calming.
Peaceful and calm.
This could be somewhere you know well or a place your imagination creates.
Perhaps you're outdoors in nature.
Near a snowy mountain cabin or in a meadow surrounded by flowers.
Or maybe you are indoors.
Somewhere warm and comforting,
Surrounded by things that bring you ease.
Allow this place to become your own personal sanctuary.
Feel yourself here in your peaceful space.
Notice what is around you here.
The colors,
Light.
Textures for the objects nearby.
Sense the atmosphere of this place and how it supports a feeling of comfort,
Security and ease.
Feel yourself resting here,
Supported and at peace.
Know that this place is always available to you.
At any time during the practice,
If something feels uncomfortable or distracting,
You can gently return here.
Simply remembering this space is enough.
This peaceful place lives within you.
Always here when you need it.
Begin to feel your breath.
Your natural breath.
Aware of breath in your chest.
The easy rise and fall of breath in your chest.
Now go inward,
Deep inside and notice.
What is my heart's deepest wish?
Let the answer come from your heart.
Now create an intention based on your heart's messages.
Allow a sankalpa to form.
This is a positive statement as though it is already happening in present tense.
A Sankalpa is a heartfelt resolve.
A quiet statement of truth that supports your growth.
Something like,
I move through life with greater ease.
You can use this statement if you like it,
But if you heard your heart's wish,
Then state it three times silently to yourself as the truth.
Now let your awareness move through your body as you are guided.
Feel each body part,
Then gently move on to the next one prompted.
There is no need to concentrate or try too hard.
Simply noticing.
Sense your face.
Notice your jaw.
Lips.
Become aware of sensation in your mouth.
Feel the roof of your mouth.
Notice teeth,
Gums,
Tongue.
Sense taste in your mouth.
Now feel all of the parts of your mouth all together,
The entire mouth.
Now feel your nose.
Nostrils.
Feel your breath passing through the nostrils.
Aware of your sense of smell.
Feel your nose.
Notice your ears.
The wrinkles and folds of the ears.
Backs of the ears.
In our ears.
Aware of your ears receiving sound.
Now fill your eyes.
Eyelid.
Eyelashes.
Surface of the eyes.
Behind the eyes.
Eye sockets.
Feel the eyes resting softly.
Eyes radiant with quiet awareness.
Become aware of your forehead.
The space between the eyebrows.
Notice the crown of the head.
Back of the head.
Back of the neck.
Aware of the throat.
Notice the whole head.
The whole head and neck together.
Feel your throat center.
Become aware of both shoulders.
Arms,
Hands.
Palm.
Feel all of the fingers on both hands.
All of the fingers and the backs of the hands.
Feel now both hands alive with sensation.
Aware of the rests.
For our Elbow.
Upper arms.
Shoulder.
Notice both arms and hands together.
Vibrant.
Awake.
Present.
Notice throat center once more.
Feel the chest.
Heart center.
Belly.
Notice shoulder blades.
Between the shoulder blades.
Ribs on the back.
Sense the low back.
Buttocks.
Become aware of your whole back.
Fuel the hoops.
Bye!
Me.
Lower legs.
And cool.
Notice the top of both feet.
Heel.
Soles of the feet.
Feel all of the toes.
Become aware of both feet together.
Feel both feet and legs together.
The entire lower body.
Now feel the torso,
Front and back.
Hands and arms.
Neck and head.
Feel the whole body now.
The whole body.
Notice the entire global feeling of the body.
Awake and aware in this resting body.
Become aware of your breath.
Your natural,
Unaltered breath.
There is nothing you need to change.
Nothing you need to deepen.
Nothing you need to control.
Simply allowing the body to breathe itself.
Feel the inhale arriving.
Feel the exhale gently returning.
Breath moving naturally.
Effortlessly.
Inhale.
Exhale.
And perhaps you begin to notice.
The breath arrives without needing to be invited.
And the breath gently leaves without needing to be held onto.
The breath knows exactly what to do.
Receiving.
Releasing.
Receiving.
Releasing.
Just as it has since the day you were born.
And now as you continue breathing,
Perhaps you begin to notice the gentle rhythm that already exists within you.
A rhythm your nervous system has always known.
A rhythm that asks nothing of you.
Nothing to hurry.
Nothing to force.
Simply allowing each breath to arrive.
And each breath to gently return.
Like waves arriving upon the shore.
One after another.
Never rushing.
Never falling behind.
Each wave completing its journey before the next begins.
The ocean never wonders if it is doing enough.
It never rushes to become tomorrow's tide.
It simply follows its natural rhythm.
Perhaps your breath begins to feel this way too.
Arriving with ease.
Returning with ease.
The body breathing itself.
Supported by a rhythm that has always been within you.
A rhythm your body remembers.
And now,
As you continue breathing,
We will gently introduce two quiet words to accompany the breath.
As you inhale,
Here in your mind,
Ease.
Ease with each inhalation.
And now as you exhale,
Here in your mind,
Flow.
Flow with each exhalation.
As you inhale,
Ease.
As you exhale,
Flow.
Is flow.
Ease Low.
There is nowhere else you need to be.
Nothing else you need to do.
Simply breathing.
Supported by ease.
Carried by flow.
Continue noticing your breath in this way on your own now.
Now you will begin to notice different sensations in your body as we move into the next stage.
Remember,
If at any point you would prefer something more familiar,
You are always welcome to return to your soothing place.
It remains here for you.
Steady.
Quiet.
Always available.
And now begin to notice your body just as it is.
There may be areas that feel settled.
And areas still holding tension.
There may be many sensations.
Or very few sensations at all.
Nothing needs to change.
Nothing needs to be fixed.
Simply noticing.
And now become aware of the feeling of holding.
Perhaps holding responsibilities.
Holding expectations.
Holding tension in the shoulders.
The jaw.
The belly.
Holding yourself together.
Holding so much for so many people.
Perhaps even holding your breath without realizing it.
Notice how holding feels in your body without judgment.
Without needing it to be different.
Simply noticing.
Noticing the effort.
Away.
The constant carry.
Feel the sensations of holding.
And now become aware of the opposite experience.
A feeling of softening.
Nothing to hold for this moment.
Nothing to brace against.
Nothing to carry alone.
Imagine the body gently unwinding.
Like warm sand supporting every part of you.
Like a palm tree swaying with the breeze.
Never resisting.
Only responding.
Notice how softening feels in your body.
Spacious,
Light.
Supported.
At ease.
Feel the sensations of softening.
And now slowly move between the two.
Holding and softening.
Effort and ease.
Bracing.
And allowing.
Holding and softening.
On your own now,
Moving gently back and forth.
And now see if you can notice both together.
The part of you that knows how to meet life's responsibilities.
And the part of you that knows how to rest when those moments have passed.
Strength,
Presence.
And softness present too.
Doing.
And simply being.
Nothing needing to disappear.
With nothing needing to be pushed away.
Simply noticing that both can exist together.
And perhaps noticing that ease does not require life to become perfect.
Responsibilities may still exist.
There may still be conversations to have.
Decisions to make.
People to care for.
And yet,
The body can remember that it does not need to remain on alert every moment of the day.
The breath can continue flowing.
The nervous system can remember its natural rhythm.
Ease has been here all along,
Patiently waiting to be remembered.
And for a few moments,
Rest here.
Open.
Supported.
With nothing required of you.
And now in your mind,
State silently to yourself,
I am awake and aware.
I am awake and aware in Yoga Nidra.
Use all of your senses to imagine these things as they are named here.
Feel,
Smell,
See.
Allowing each one to arise naturally in your own way.
There is no need to try.
Simply notice what comes.
Become aware of a gentle waterfall flowing into a clear pool.
A gentle waterfall flowing into a clear pool.
A gentle waterfall flowing into a clear pool.
Notice a deer drinking quietly beside a peaceful stream.
A deer drinking beside a peaceful stream.
A deer drinking beside a peaceful stream.
Imagine the sweet fragrance of hibiscus blossoms.
The sweet fragrance of hibiscus blossoms.
The sweet fragrance of hibiscus blossoms.
Become aware of a sailboat drifting effortlessly across calm water.
A sailboat drifting across calm water.
A sailboat drifting across calm water.
Notice golden sunlight dancing across gentle waves.
Golden sunlight dancing across gentle waves.
Golden sunlight dancing across gentle waves.
Imagine a crescent moon reflected upon still water.
A crescent moon reflected upon still water.
A crescent moon reflected upon still water.
Imagine your whole body settling into a feeling of gentle ease.
Your whole body settling into gentle ease.
Your whole body settling into gentle ease.
And now you are going on a journey,
A journey to a peaceful tropical island.
You may begin to see yourself from above or from behind.
Standing where warm white sand meets the edge of a crystal clear sea.
The morning sun casts a golden light across the water.
The air feels warm.
So.
Welcoming.
Before you stretches the small crescent-shaped beach.
Quiet.
Peaceful.
Untouch.
The turquoise water gently curves around the shoreline before meeting the endless horizon beyond.
A sky above wide and open.
The sea and sky blending together in soft shades of blue.
Gentle breeze carries the sweet fragrance of hibiscus blossoms.
Tropical flowers bloom naturally along the shoreline.
Their vibrant colors scattered among lush green leaves.
Nearby,
Delicate plumeria blossoms rest upon the sand.
Their creamy white petals touched with soft golden centers.
Filling the warm air with their gentle fragrance.
Palm trees sway effortlessly overhead.
Their broad leaves dancing softly with each passing breeze.
See grasses bend gracefully near the dunes.
Moving together with the wind.
Never resisting.
Simply responding.
Moving with each breeze before becoming still once again.
The rhythmic sound of the ocean surrounds you.
Waves arriving gently upon the shore.
And quietly returning once again.
Their steady movement becoming almost like a familiar song.
Peaceful.
Predictable.
On hurry.
Began walking slowly along the shoreline.
Feeling the warm sand beneath your bare feet.
Soft.
Welcoming.
Supporting each step with gentle ease.
Tiny seashells rest quietly where the tide has placed them.
Some smooth.
Some beautifully worn by years of gentle waves.
The water glimmers beside you.
Shades of turquoise.
Aqua.
Deep blue stretching towards the distant horizon.
Now and then,
A tiny hermit crab quietly makes its way across the sand.
Carrying its little shell with patient determination before disappearing gently among the rocks.
Nearby,
A piece of smooth driftwood rests where the tide has carefully placed it.
Shaped slowly by water.
Softened by time.
Perfectly at home upon the shore.
Far out across the water,
A small sailboat drifts peacefully along the horizon.
Its white sail catching the gentle breeze.
There is no urgency in its movement.
Only a quiet trust in the wind that carries it forward.
Above you,
Several pelicans glide effortlessly through the warm air.
Wings outstretched.
Rarely needing to flap.
Simply allowing the rising currents to support them.
Trusting the air beneath them rather than forcing every moment.
Floating with remarkable ease before continuing towards the open sea.
There is nowhere you need to be.
Nothing asking for your attention.
No decisions waiting to be made.
Only the simple walk.
This gentle rhythm.
This moment.
As you continue walking,
You notice your own footprints appearing behind you in the soft sand.
One after another.
A quiet reminder that you have been here.
And as the wave slowly reached the shore.
They gently wash across the sand.
Softening each footprint until it disappears once again.
Nothing lost.
Simply returned to the rhythm of the sea.
After only a short distance,
You come to a single palm tree growing near the water's edge.
Its broad leaves offer cool shade beneath the warm tropical sun.
You settle comfortably beneath it.
Perhaps leaning gently across the trunk.
Or simply resting upon the soft sand.
Feeling completely supported.
Completely at ease.
Warm sand beneath you asks nothing of your body.
There is nothing to hold yourself up against.
Nothing to brace for.
The earth supports your weight completely.
Allowing every muscle to soften just a little more.
Before you,
The endless ocean rises and falls with its timeless rhythm.
Wave after wave arriving upon the shore.
Then gently returning to the sea.
As you continue watching,
Perhaps you begin to notice something.
No wave rushes towards the shore.
No wave tries to hold on once it has arrived.
Each one completes its journey.
And quietly make space for the next.
Receiving.
Releasing.
Receiving.
Releasing.
Just as your breath has been doing all along.
Just as your nervous system has been quietly waiting for permission to settle.
The tide never questions its timing.
It never wonders whether it has done enough.
It simply responds to the quiet rhythm that has always guided it.
Perhaps something within you begins to recognize this rhythm as well.
There may be responsibilities waiting for you beyond this moment.
Conversations yet to be had.
Decisions still to be made.
And yet,
For now.
None of them ask anything of you.
The warm breeze continues moving through the palm leaves overhead.
The scent of flowers drifts softly through the air.
Sunlight sparkles across the water like thousands of tiny diamonds.
The waves continue their gentle conversation with the shore.
Nothing here is forcing life to happen.
Nothing here is striving to become something else.
Everything simply responds to the moment it is in.
And perhaps you notice nature never confuses gentleness with weakness.
The wave shaped the shoreline through quiet persistence.
The breeze bends the palms without breaking them.
Even here,
There is strength.
But it is a strength that does not rely on constant effort.
As you rest here,
Maybe you begin to wonder.
What might it feel like to move through your own life this way?
Not by doing less.
Not by caring less.
But by carrying everything with a little more softness.
A little more trust.
A little more ease.
For a few moments,
You simply rest here.
Surrounded by warm sunshine.
Gentle waves.
Soft ocean breezes.
And the comforting reminder that ease is never as far away as it seems sometimes.
It has been moving quietly within you.
Just as the tide has always known when to arrive.
And when to return.
One breath.
On wave.
One gentle moment at a time.
Remember now your sankalpa,
Your heart's wish statement.
The positive intention you set at the beginning.
State it silently now three times as the truth.
And your awareness remains here,
Quiet.
Open,
At ease.
The tropical island resting peacefully around you.
Warm waves continuing their gentle rhythm upon the shore.
Palm trees swaying softly in the breeze.
The sweet fragrance of flowers drifting through the warm air.
The turquoise sea stretching peacefully towards the horizon.
Nothing needing to be forced.
Nothing needing to happen before its time.
Your body settling into the same quiet rhythm that has guided the tide all along.
You remain here for a few moments longer.
Resting comfortably beneath the shade of the palm tree.
Feeling completely supported.
The warmth of the sun upon your skin.
A soft breeze moving gently around you.
And perhaps you begin to notice.
That ease was never something you needed to earn.
It was never waiting at the end of your to-do list.
Your body has remembered it all along.
One breath.
One pause.
One quiet moment at a time.
The island remains peaceful.
Warm.
Spacious.
On Hurry.
And when it feels natural,
You slowly rise from your place beneath the palm tree.
Taking one last quiet look around you.
The endless water.
The gently swaying palm trees.
Tropical flowers blooming along the shoreline.
The soft white sand.
The quiet rhythm of the waves.
Everything moving exactly as it was meant to.
You begin making your way slowly along the shoreline once more.
Your footsteps pressing gently into the warm sand.
The familiar path beside the sea.
The waves continuing their timeless dance beside you.
And as you walk,
You glance back one final time.
Watching the tide gently reach the shore.
Softly washing away the footprints left behind.
Not erasing where you have been.
Simply reminding you.
There is no need to carry every moment forever.
There is nowhere you need to rush towards.
Nothing waiting to be accomplished immediately.
Only a gentle return.
And perhaps you noticed.
The same quiet ease remains available within you.
Not something you need to hold on to.
That's something you need to create.
Simply something your nervous system can remember.
Again and again.
Like the rhythm of the tide.
Take a slow breath in.
And out.
And now you begin to return.
Gradually returning to the present moment.
Here in this room where you began.
Five,
Feel open,
Spacious,
At ease.
Aware of the quiet rhythm that continues within you.
Or become aware of yourself as the witness.
The one who has observed your body,
Your breath.
Your experience with gentle awareness.
Breathe,
Begin noticing thoughts,
Sensations,
And sounds returning once again.
Like gentle waves arriving upon the shore.
And softly returning to the sea.
To notice your breath.
Feel its natural rhythm.
Allow your breath to deepen slightly.
As your body gradually begins to reawaken.
One.
Now sense your body.
Feel the weight of your body resting.
Notice the surface beneath you supporting you completely.
You are now completing yoga nidra practice,
Becoming slowly more awake and aware.
Take one final slow breath in.
And out.
Feel the steady support beneath you.
The rhythm of your breath.
The quiet presence of your body resting here.
You're welcome to remain here longer,
Resting deeply.
Or drifting softly into sleep if that feels right for you today.
Feel free to tune me out and continue resting.
If you're ready to reawaken,
Gently invite small movements back into the body.
Perhaps softly wiggling your fingers.
Noticing sensation returning.
Bring awareness into your toes.
Softly moving your head side to side.
A gradual awakening.
Draw a deeper breath into your belly.
Into your chest.
Gently roll onto your side if that feels comfortable.
Press your hands into the floor and slowly rise to a comfortable seated position.
Lengthen your spine.
Perhaps a small stretch or a quiet yawn.
Take a full breath in.
In and out.
Notice how you feel.
Aware of the effects of practice today.
The tropical island reminds us that ease is not found only when life becomes quiet.
The waves continue arriving.
And returning.
The breeze continues moving through the palms.
The tide continues its timeless rhythm.
Nothing in nature waits for everything to be finished before returning to balance.
Perhaps the same is true within you.
Life will continue to ask things of you.
There will still be responsibilities.
Conversations.
Decisions.
And seasons of change.
But your nervous system does not need to remain on alert every moment of the day.
Like the tide you can receive.
And release.
Like the palm trees,
You can bend.
Without breaking.
Like the warm breeze,
You can move gently through each moment.
Without rushing to become somewhere else.
There is nothing more you need to become.
Nothing more you need to prove.
Sometimes the greatest gift we can offer ourselves is simply remembering that ease is always available.
Your body already knows the way.
WANBRA.
One pause.
One gentle return at a time.
Bring your hands to heart center.
When it feels right,
Allow the eyes to slowly open to a soft gaze on the floor.
Bow to yourself in appreciation for practicing today.
The light in me sees and honors the light in you.
Namaste.
