Welcome to your meditation practice today.
Find a place where you can get comfortable,
Whether that be sitting in a chair or lying down on a bed.
Close your eyes or soften your gaze towards the floor and become present in your body.
Let's start our practice today with three deep breaths.
Inhale as deeply as you can through your nose and exhale through your mouth.
Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.
One more.
Inhale deeply through your nose and exhale through your mouth.
Now let your breathing return to its natural rhythm.
Notice the air moving in and out.
Notice where your body makes contact with the chair or the floor.
Notice any sounds around you without judgment.
You have arrived here.
This moment belongs to you.
There is nowhere else you need to be,
Nothing else you need to accomplish.
Just this breath.
Just this moment.
Bring your awareness to your feet.
Feel them resting on the ground.
Imagine roots growing from your feet,
Anchoring you to the earth beneath you.
You are supported.
You are held.
You are not alone.
You are not alone.
Notice your hands.
Perhaps they rest in your lap or at your sides.
These hands have done much work.
They have held things,
Built things,
Reached out,
Pulled back,
And now they rest.
Feel your chest rising and falling.
With each breath,
Imagine you are inhaling peace.
With each exhale,
Imagine you are exhaling tension,
Releasing worry,
Releasing the weight of carrying everything alone.
Your mind may wander.
That is okay.
When you notice thoughts arising,
Simply acknowledge them and gently return to your breath.
You are not trying to empty your mind.
You are simply practicing being present.
Today in our practice,
We explore themes of faith and belief.
These are words that carry deep meaning for many people,
Yet can also feel distant or complicated.
Perhaps you come to this meditation seeking clarity.
Perhaps you come with questions.
Perhaps you come carrying doubt or hope or both.
All of these are welcome here.
Step two of a 12-step program speaks of coming to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
This is not about blind faith.
It is about opening to possibility.
It is about considering that there may be forces beyond our individual control that can help us find our way back to sanity.
Whatever your relationship with spirituality,
Whatever language you use to describe something greater than yourself,
Whether you call it God,
The universe,
Higher power,
Love,
Or simply mystery,
You are invited to bring your authentic self to this exploration.
I invite you to turn your attention inward with this question.
What does belief mean to you?
What does belief mean to you?
Notice what arises.
Perhaps memories of times you believe strongly in something.
Perhaps memories of times you struggled to believe.
Perhaps feelings of comfort or perhaps feelings of resistance.
What does belief mean to you?
What does belief mean to you?
There is no right answer.
There is only your truth.
Belief is not the same as certainty.
Belief can exist alongside doubt.
In fact,
True belief often requires us to hold both.
Your mantra can be,
I believe and I wonder and I am willing to keep exploring.
I believe and I wonder and I am willing to keep exploring.
Consider the following questions.
Where in your life do you find it easy to believe?
Where do you find it difficult?
Where in your life do you find it easy to believe?
Where do you find it difficult?
These questions may not have immediate answers.
That is okay.
Sometimes the questions themselves begin to shift something within us.
Where in your life do you find it easy to believe?
Where do you find it difficult?
Step two invites us to consider a power greater than ourselves.
This can be a challenging concept,
Especially if past experiences have made such ideas difficult to embrace.
Let me offer you this invitation.
What if there is something beyond your individual effort that can help you?
This does not require you to abandon your agency.
It does not require you to surrender your responsibility.
It simply asks you to consider that you do not have to carry everything alone.
What would it feel like to trust that recovery is possible?
What would it feel like to trust that recovery is possible?
Recovery and restoration does not mean returning to who you were before.
It means becoming who you are meant to be.
With all your experiences,
All your struggles,
All your growth integrated into something whole,
What would it feel like to trust that recovery is possible?
Who or what has helped you in moments when you felt you could not help yourself?
Who or what has helped you in moments when you felt you could not help yourself?
Sometimes the power greater than ourselves shows up in unexpected ways.
In the kindness of a stranger.
In a book that arrives at exactly the right moment.
In the persistence of hope itself.
Take a few moments to breathe deeply once more.
Notice how you feel after this exploration.
Perhaps there is a sense of lightness.
Perhaps there is still uncertainty.
Both are valid.
Both are part of the journey.
Faith is not a destination.
It is a practice.
Like any muscle,
It grows stronger with use.
Each time you choose to believe in possibility.
Each time you remain open to help.
Each time you take a small step forward despite not having all the answers.
You are strengthening your capacity for faith.
What is one small way you can practice openness to support today?
What is one small way you can practice openness to support today?
This might mean reaching out to someone.
It might mean writing down your thoughts.
It might simply mean being gentle with yourself when doubt arises.
What is one small way you can practice openness to support today?
Carry this sense of openness with you as you move through your day.
Remember that you do not have to have all of the answers.
Remember that belief can grow gradually like a seed that takes root in soil prepared by patience.
You are not alone in this journey.
There are powers greater than yourself that can support your growth and recovery.
Whether you call it by a sacred name or simply trust in the process of healing,
The invitation remains.
Come to believe.
Let's close our practice today with three deep breaths.
Inhale as deeply as you can through your nose.
And exhale through your mouth.
Inhale through your nose.
And exhale through your mouth.
One more.
Inhale.
And let it go.
Start to become aware of your body.
Wiggle your fingers a little.
Stretch your arms if you would like to.
And then slowly open your eyes.
Thank you for sharing your practice with me today.
I hope the meditation has increased your faith in a power greater than yourself.
Remember that you can return to this practice any time that you would like.
Have a wonderful day.
Namaste.
Namaste.
