Hey,
I'm Marina and today I want to break down what somatic movement actually is because it's not what most people think it is.
Somatic movement is intentional body-aware movement guided by internal sensations rather than anything external.
What does that actually mean?
It means instead of trying to look a certain way or hit like a certain pose.
You're moving based on what you feel inside.
It's not a workout and it's not about performance.
It's a conversation with your body.
When we grow through stress,
Overwhelm,
Or difficult experiences,
Tension and unprocessed emotions get stored in our muscle and our tissues.
Our nervous system holds onto it.
Somatic movement is one of the ways that we can actually help the body let go of it.
So that can look like fluid movement.
Gentle shaking,
Rolling through the spine.
And it can look like rocking back and forth.
So spontaneous motion that your body leads and not your brain.
Sometimes it's very subtle.
And sometimes it's surprisingly emotional because your body's finally giving or you're finally giving your body permission to express what it's actually been holding on to.
And it's the great thing about it is that it's actually completely beginner friendly.
You don't need experience.
You don't need to be flexible or you don't need to be a certain body type.
Like none of that matters.
You just need to be willing to slow down and actually listen to what's happening inside your body.
So if you ever felt disconnected from your body,
Exhausted in a way that sleep cannot fix,
Or like stress.
Physically lives in the body,
Somatic movement is actually worth exploring.
So I'm really glad you found this and come back whenever you're ready for your next practice.
