Welcome to this meditation.
There is no right way.
One of the biggest obstacles new meditators face is the belief that they're doing it wrong.
We often think meditation requires a quiet mind,
A perfect focus,
Or a special ability that some people have and others don't.
The truth is much simpler.
There is no perfect meditation.
In this practice,
You'll begin releasing expectations and allowing yourself to experience meditation exactly as you are today.
Let's begin.
Find a comfortable position.
Either seated or lying down.
Allow your hands to rest naturally.
And if it feels comfortable.
Gently close your eyes.
Alternatively,
You may lower your eyes to a soft gaze as an object nearby.
Take a slow breath in through your nose.
And a gentle exhale through your nose.
Again,
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
Allow your shoulders to soften.
Relax your jaw.
Notice the support beneath you.
Now bring to mind any beliefs you have about meditation.
Perhaps thoughts such as,
My mind is too busy.
Or I don't know how to meditate.
Or I can't sit still.
Simply notice whatever arises.
No need to try and change anything.
Just notice.
Imagine placing each belief on a leaf.
Floating down a gentle stream.
Watch it drift away.
And just as another thought appears,
Place that one on a leaf too.
Allow the stream to carry it.
Now silently repeat to yourself.
There is no perfect meditation.
I am allowed to begin exactly as I am.
Let those words settle into your body.
And for the next few breaths,
Simply rest.
Nothing to accomplish.
Nothing to fix.
Nothing to get right.
Just breathe.
Just let yourself be.
Now take in a deeper breath.
Feel the gentle rise in your chest.
And slowly exhale.
Feeling the fall of your chest or belly.
And as we come to a close,
Remember.
Showing up is enough.
Every meditation begins exactly where you are.
And when you're ready,
Gently open your eyes or lift your gaze.
And you did it.
Thanks for practicing today.
Namaste.
