Whether you want to or not,

You have multiple identifications.

You might identify as young,

Old,

Man,

Woman,

Athlete,

Scientist,

Traveler,

Son,

Dad,

Astronaut,

Superstar or a million other options.

And of course you identify as you.

Every person and thus also you has a whole range of identities.

But how can you understand which ones serve you?

Let us discover which identifications you should prioritize.

Which identifications allow you to create the happiest and best life you can have.

So our goal for today is to gain a more detailed understanding of what matters most to you.

Also by choosing the right identifications you will be able to use different attitudes needed in different circumstances in your life.

You will also be able to bring more awareness to your highest needs,

Which are often not so clear.

Shakespeare famously said,

All the world's a stage,

And all the men and women merely players.

They have their exits and their entrances,

And one man in his time plays many parts.

So let us be motivated by Shakespeare today and find out what parts you need to play in your life currently.

Let me start by telling you that I think that there are two or three tech companies in this world who are aware of almost every single identity you have.

They already analyzed you to the last detail and could print out a complete hierarchy of identifications for your personality.

Imagine you could read that list.

What do you think it looks like?

What would be your most important identification and your least important?

By the way,

If the idea of having different identifications makes you uncomfortable,

Don't be alarmed.

Choosing different identifications at different times of the day,

The week or the year is not only healthy,

It is necessary.

And you do so subconsciously already anyway.

What we are trying to improve is merely becoming more aware of them to understand which ones are actually really important in your life.

Let me give you an easy example to understand different identifications better.

Let us say that two of your identifications are A.

An employee and B.

A friend.

Usually you show up to work with the identification of an employee as the dominant identification.

But let us imagine you show up in a business meeting like a friend.

You crack stupid jokes,

Don't take things seriously,

You just want to have a good time and relax.

It would not serve you,

Nor would it serve your career.

Now imagine you meet your friends to watch some sports or a TV show and have a glass of wine and you are in a business mall and constantly want to talk in a serious and structured way.

That would most likely also not serve you and definitely not your friendships.

We all subconsciously change our identifications or better the hierarchy of identifications during the day.

Of course you are all of your identifications all the time,

But you do change there the hierarchy multiple times per day.

Of course there is an overall hierarchy,

Which is also extremely important,

But we will look at that later today.

Now you might ask yourself why you need to become more conscious of what hierarchy to use for what moments,

When you already choose subconsciously anyway.

The reason is that over time your hierarchy often gets muddled up and doesn't actually serve you anymore.

Becoming aware of that will make it easier for you to change and readjust.

My next point is that choosing the right identities unlocks unknown potential and allows you to be your complete authentic self.

There are abilities that you have that you are unaware of and choosing the right identity will automatically unlock that potential.

For example,

Identifying as a parent.

It is impossible to imagine that identity before you become a parent,

But when a baby arrives and the identity of the parent is chosen,

The unlocked potential surprises everyone.

All of a sudden you automatically get things right and you have no idea how or why.

So allow yourself to experience all the identities you might have to the fullest.

Unlocking that potential to create a great life will increase a ton.

The next advantage of being aware of and choosing the right identities is that it allows for creative thinking and flexibility.

You will be able to look at issues from a lot of different standpoints and angles.

You will be open-minded and find new ways to think about and deal with life.

Thus,

Your process and problem-solving skills will improve extremely quickly.

Another advantage of becoming aware of identities is that in your relationships with others you will not be biased and you will not exclude people quickly.

You will understand that you have some identifications in common with everyone on this planet and that allows you to immediately relate to them.

You are able to connect to people that you would never have imagined being connected to.

You will go beyond the superficial where all judgment lies.

Now the easier you can adjust different hierarchies of identification,

The easier you can use them where they fit best.

You can use your attitudes and energies where they serve you best and leave them behind where they do not serve you.

You will gain self-awareness,

Self-confidence and self-control and all of these will allow you to live a happier and more fulfilled life.

Now let us talk about your overall hierarchy of identifications.

We already learned that we all have hundreds of identifications and that at different times your hierarchy changes.

But what is your overall hierarchy and how can identifying your overall hierarchy help you understand yourself better?

For example,

In no particular order yet,

I identify as a human,

A son,

A teacher,

A father,

A gardener,

An artist,

A writer,

A career person,

An honest person,

A friend,

A martial arts student,

An introvert,

Extrovert,

Athlete,

Businessman,

Employee,

Employer,

Lazy person,

An active person,

A leader,

A follower and so on.

But what is my overall hierarchy of identifications and how can the awareness of such serve me?

I want to challenge myself and you to define our overall hierarchy so that we can bring awareness to what is truly important in our life.

And understanding what is truly important in your life will give you the ability to choose a better direction.

For example,

Right now in this very second my highest identification is teacher.

But my overall highest identification is father.

Overall it is the strongest and most important identification in my life at the moment.

And to understand that and embrace that makes my life a whole lot easier.

That does not mean my other identifications become less important.

It just makes me realize that being a father is the most important part I play in my life at the moment,

Closely followed by my identity as a husband.

Become aware of your overall hierarchy and you will automatically move in the right directions in your life.
