Hello and welcome to this mirror meditation inspired by I am that,
A poem by Swami Ramtirath.
For this meditation,
You'll need a place where you won't be disturbed and a mirror.
Set up your space so that you are sitting directly in front of the mirror.
Try to get as close to the mirror as you can.
You may find that low lighting,
Such as by that of a candle or a salt lamp,
Will enhance your experience,
But it's perfectly okay to do this meditation in daylight as well.
Settle yourself in your seat in front of the mirror.
Allow your body to become heavy and your breath to deepen and soften.
Focus on the sensations that the breath produces,
Either the sensation through the nostrils or the rise and fall of the various parts of the body responding to the breath.
Now connect with your eyes in the mirror and also notice the connection between sensation,
What you feel,
And the visual image of your body in front of the mirror as it feels.
I'm going to read the poem three times.
The first time,
Simply listen and stay connected to yourself through your eyes.
The second time,
You can repeat after me.
And the third time,
It will be a whisper and you can just listen and even close your eyes if you prefer.
So let's begin.
I have no scruple of change,
Nor fear of death,
Nor was I ever born.
Nor had I parents.
I am existence absolute,
Knowledge absolute,
Bliss absolute.
I am that.
I am that.
I cause no misery,
Nor am I miserable.
I have no enemy,
Nor am I enemy.
I am existence absolute,
Knowledge absolute,
Bliss absolute.
I am that.
I am that.
I am without form,
Without limit,
Beyond space,
Beyond time.
I am in everything.
Everything is in me.
I am the bliss of the universe.
Everywhere am I.
I am existence absolute,
Knowledge absolute,
Bliss absolute.
I am that.
I am that.
I am without body or change of the body.
I am neither senses nor object of the senses.
I am existence absolute,
Knowledge absolute,
Bliss absolute.
I am that.
I am that.
I am neither sin nor virtue,
Nor temple nor worship,
Nor pilgrimage nor books.
I am existence absolute,
Knowledge absolute,
Bliss absolute.
I am that.
