Hello,
Beautiful beings.
This is Melanie.
And I would like to welcome you to this meditation on the sacredness of food.
Let's begin by finding a comfortable position,
Sitting or lying down.
And if it's comfortable for you,
Close your eyes,
Settle in and take this moment to just relax.
I want you to become aware of your breath.
Take a deep breath.
Allow it to nourish you.
And as you exhale,
Let go of any tension or distractions and allow yourself to be fully present in this moment.
Focus on your breath,
Feeling the air,
Fill your lungs,
And then release.
Notice any sensations in your body that you're feeling right now.
And with each breath,
Feel more relaxed,
Centered and grounded.
In your mind's eye,
Visualize a seed being planted in the earth.
Maybe it's your favorite vegetable,
Or fruit,
Or your favorite tree.
And imagine the seed sprouting,
Growing into a plant nurtured by sunlight and rain,
And then see the fruits or vegetables it bears,
Ripe and ready for harvest.
Continue breathing and picture the sun,
Its bright,
Beautiful rays shining down on the seed.
Picture the rain nourishing the seed and the plants and the soil that provides much needed nutrients.
All of these have contributed to bringing food to your table.
That is part of the sacredness of food.
To produce food,
We need each other,
And we need the universe.
Picture the hands that carefully have picked this produce.
Remember the journey that it takes to reach a kitchen,
And then the transformation that it undergoes as it's prepared into a meal.
Many hands came to this,
From a seed supplier,
Farmers,
Farm hands,
Truck drivers,
Transport workers,
Grocery store employees,
And many more.
Each person lovingly touching,
Harvesting,
Preparing,
Getting the food ready to be delivered to you.
Thank you to the earth that nourished this plant.
Thank you for all of the hands that cultivated and harvested.
Thank you for the elements that brought this to our plate.
Thank you for the person that prepared the food.
Feel this gratitude fill your heart,
Acknowledging the sacred journey of the food to arrive to you.
I'd like for you to start to bring your awareness back to the present.
Remember this sense of sacredness and gratitude.
The next time you prepare or eat a meal,
Let it guide you to be more mindful and appreciative of the nourishment that you receive.
Take a few more deep breaths.
Allow yourself to feel refreshed and connected.
When you're ready,
Gently open your eyes,
Carrying this sense of appreciation with you.
Thank you for joining me in this meditation.
And may your meals be nourishing and your heart be full of gratitude.
