Hello,

Welcome.

I'm Melanie.

I'm going to be sharing a brief guided meditation today.

This is designed to be used just before cooking and to give you a sense of calm and confidence,

Creativity and joy in the kitchen.

Whether you're someone who's very seasoned in the kitchen or you're just a beginner,

This meditation is meant to help you connect deeply with the art of cooking,

Turning it into a joyful and mindful journey using all of your senses.

We're ready to begin.

I want you to begin by standing comfortably in your kitchen,

Feeling the floor beneath your feet,

Grounding you into a space of culinary creativity.

If it's comfortable,

Close your eyes and take in a deep,

Slow breath.

Breathe out and continue breathing at this pace that's a little slower than a normal breath.

And with each breath,

Feel more present in this moment in your kitchen,

Which is your personal sanctuary for flavors,

Aromas and nourishment.

Tune into the sounds around you,

The gentle hum of your refrigerator or maybe you hear birds outside or even just the quiet hush of your own breathing.

Let these sounds anchor you into this moment.

Inhale deeply.

Maybe there's a faint smell of herbs or citrus or the comforting aroma of your home.

Let these smells nourish your sense of presence.

Reflect on the role of the kitchen in your life.

This is a place of creation,

Of transformation,

Of ingredients coming together,

Forming something new,

Something nourishing,

And feel gratitude for the meals that have been and will be prepared here.

Notice your body,

The vessel that allows you to cook and create.

Observe any tension,

Perhaps in your shoulders or your hands,

In your mind,

Gently letting it go with each exhale.

Feel yourself becoming more relaxed yet alert and ready to prepare a meal.

Recall a moment of a culinary success,

A time that you may have felt proud in the kitchen.

Let this memory build confidence in your skills and in your creativity.

You are capable of doing this.

You are creative and you are ready to embark on this journey today.

Think about what you're ready to cook.

Visualize your ingredients,

The textures,

The colors,

And set an intention for this cooking experience.

Perhaps it's to try something new,

To nourish your body,

To enjoy the process,

Or to gather your family for a meal.

Now imagine all the steps that you'll take,

Your ingredients coming together harmoniously under your guidance.

Anticipate the joy of tasting your creation,

Of sharing it with others,

Or savoring it with yourself.

Now take one more deep grounding breath and feel a sense of calm and confidence and a connection to your kitchen.

When you're ready,

Gently open your eyes,

Refreshed and ready to cook.

Remember that this is a moment to be mindful and joyous,

And that cooking is not just about the food,

It's about the experience,

The learning,

And the love that you pour into every dish.

Embrace this journey with a light heart and a curious spirit.

I LOVE THIS! My husband is a chef…I’m a home cook. I could have used this to calm myself yesterday as I was making prosciutto bread for the first time and I was very nervous…I’ve save this to use again for sure! Thank you!
