You've been taught to dim yourself - to not be too loud, too intense, too ambitious, or too much. Being small to make others comfortable isn't humility, it's denying who you are. This talk reframes being extraordinary as permission to be fully, unapologetically yourself in whatever way that looks for you - whether that's climbing mountains, performing on stage, or simply refusing to tone down your energy and passion. Practice claiming space, going after what you want without apologizing, and being as big, bold, and different as you actually are.

Hey,

Everyone.

It's Melanie.

And I want to talk about living an extraordinary life.

Having the permission to be as big as you want to be.

To take up as much space as you choose.

You are allowed to be loud,

Bold,

Ambitious,

And unapologetically yourself,

However that looks for you.

Somewhere along the way,

We've been told to dim ourselves,

To not be too much,

That we're too loud,

Too opinionated,

Too intense,

Too different.

And we've learned that standing out makes others uncomfortable.

And that being extraordinary means you're showing off,

Or you're trying too hard.

But the truth is,

You don't need to shrink to make other people comfortable.

Being extraordinary isn't about being better than anyone else.

It's about being fully and completely unfiltered you.

It's climbing the mountain because you want to.

It's performing in front of people because that lights you up.

It's being as funny,

As creative,

As passionate,

As driven as you are,

Not a toned-down version you think is acceptable.

You're allowed to want more.

You're allowed to dream the biggest dreams.

You're allowed to be the person who goes after what they want without apologizing.

Your energy,

Your ambition,

Your intensity,

Those are not flaws.

They're not things to manage or to control or to make smaller.

They are you,

And you get to be all of you.

So if you want to be extraordinary,

Be extraordinary in whatever way that means to you.

Be loud,

Be bold,

Be the person who stands out,

Who takes risks,

Who refuses to play small.

You don't need permission from anyone else except yourself.

But if you're waiting for it,

Here it is.

Be extraordinary.

Be different.

Be unapologetically you and be as much as you want to be.

You're allowed.

Very well said Never wanted the “spotlight” as thought it to be bragging and not humble.
