Before you sleep,
Come as you are,
Especially if your mind feels loud tonight.
If your thoughts are racing,
Looping,
Jumping from one thing to the next,
You're not doing anything wrong.
This space is made for nights like this,
A place where your mind doesn't have to quiet instantly,
It just gets to soften.
You don't have to control your thoughts,
Just let yourself rest beside them.
To settle in,
Find a position that feels comfortable for your body.
You don't have to lie perfectly still,
Just settle in a way that feels natural.
Let your weight sink in to the surface beneath you,
Let yourself be supported without effort.
Take a slow breath in,
And let it fall out gently,
No pressure to slow or control your breath or deepen it,
Just letting it move in the way that it wants to.
If your mind is still buzzing,
That's ok,
You're simply arriving.
Notice the pace of your thoughts right now,
Fast,
Slow,
Scattered,
Focused,
Anything is ok.
You don't need to push them away,
You don't need to organize them,
You don't even need to make sense of them.
Just acknowledge them softly,
Like noticing weather passing through the sky.
You might say quietly inside of yourself,
It's ok that my mind is busy,
I'm allowed to rest anyway.
Let your shoulders drop a little,
Let your jaw loosen,
And let your hands rest in whatever shape they naturally fall into.
Imagine your thoughts as sounds in another room,
You can hear them but they're not right up against you,
They're happening but you don't have to respond.
Or imagine them as gentle ripples on water,
Moving,
Shifting,
But not demanding anything from you.
You don't need to choose a metaphor,
Just let the thoughts be thoughts,
Let them move the way they move.
If new thoughts appear,
That's ok,
If old ones return,
That's ok too,
You're not trying to stop them,
You're just giving yourself space around them.
If there's a part of you that feels overstimulated or restless,
Let it know it doesn't have to settle all at once.
You might place a hand on your chest or belly if that feels comforting.
You're not behind,
You're not failing at resting.
Your mind is simply doing what minds do,
Especially during the quiet at the end of a long day.
And you're allowed to rest,
Even with a busy mind.
Let your breath become a little softer,
A little slower.
As if your body is gently saying,
I'm here,
I'm safe,
I can let go.
There's nothing that you need to solve tonight,
Nothing that you need to figure out or perfect.
Your thoughts can keep moving if they want to,
You don't have to follow them.
Just this moment,
Just this breath,
Just this softening.
As you drift toward sleep,
Take a moment to thank yourself for showing up here,
For giving your mind and body a place to rest.
If this practice supported you,
I'd love for you to follow my Insight Timer channel so you can return to these moments of calm whenever you need them.
And if you feel comfortable,
Share in the comments what feels a little softer for you after this practice.
Your reflections help others feel less alone,
And I read every single one.
Rest well.
