Trauma, PTSD, And Safety In Somatic Recovery
by Ana Mael
Ana teaches that trauma means never having had a safe place to run to — healing begins when you can create micro-moments of safety and learn, slowly, to move toward them. Trauma is defined by running away, not toward. A nervous system shaped by trauma and PTSD has never known a safe person or safe place to run to. Safety was absent from the beginning, so the body only knows escape from danger, not movement toward security. Safety must be built, not assumed. For trauma survivors, the task is not to chase a fantasy of perfect refuge, but to construct micro-moments of safety in daily life — a sunbeam, a breath, a dog’s presence, a pleasant thought.
