Hello again and welcome.
This video is called The Space Between Thoughts.
Recognising one's silence.
Presence.
There is something very profound that we would rarely notice.
Between one thought and the next.
There is a pause.
A moment of stillness,
No matter how fleeting.
A moment of silence.
A thought appears and then it passes.
And before the next thought arises,
In the space between,
There was a quiet stillness.
There is nothing that needs to be done with this space,
Nothing to change in any way.
This space is simply and effortlessly present.
Most of the time the mind's attention is drawn towards what is happening.
A memory,
A plan,
A concern.
A decision.
An endless stream of mental activity where the mind can seem constantly occupied.
But when we become a little quieter,
A little more present.
We can begin to notice something else.
A thought comes and the thought goes.
Yet something quiet remains,
Undisturbed,
Behind,
Through,
And after all mental movement.
There is a still presence,
An awareness.
A silence.
It is similar to listening to music.
We hear the notes.
But there is also silence between the notes.
Without the silence,
The music would simply become one continuous sound.
In the same way,
Thoughts appear within one's awareness.
And between them there is a space.
Moments of stillness.
We don't need to make the mind quiet.
All we need do is quietly notice.
A thought arises,
Then it passes.
And there.
Just for a moment.
There is no immediate movement.
There is an open stillness,
With nothing immediately following.
The body is here,
The breath is here.
Sounds are appearing and disappearing.
Thoughts are appearing and disappearing.
Yet something is already silently present.
Before any thought appears.
One's inseparable,
Silent awareness.
This is why the space between our thoughts has been the focus of countless number of spiritual beings.
Over the centuries.
Not because it is something special we need to find.
But because it leads us.
To enter an open doorway.
The doorway leading to what is timelessly present.
As our unmoving background.
Of timeless awareness.
The thought does not have to disappear for there to be awareness of this silent presence.
A feeling does not have to change for there to be awareness.
Life does not have to become different.
For there to be this same still,
Open presence.
And perhaps this is where we often become confused.
We imagine that peace will be felt when something in life changes.
When a personal situation is resolved.
When the future becomes more certain.
But there may be another reality.
Peace is not something thought can create.
Or something we need to discover.
It is the stillness,
The presence.
The solid awareness we begin to experience.
When we are no longer absorbed.
By the movement of the mind.
It is recognized in the spaces,
In the moments of stillness.
Before,
During and after a thought arises.
So for now,
Don't try to find the spaces between thoughts.
Simply allow the mind to be as it is.
And quietly become aware.
When the thought arises,
Notice it.
If another thought follows,
Notice that too.
But now.
.
.
Also be increasingly aware of that moment.
The space between them.
And in that moment,
Don't look for anything.
Simply notice.
What is quietly present.
Thoughts come and go,
Feelings come and go.
Sensations come and go.
And yet awareness remains.
As silent stillness.
There is a thought and there is silence in which the thought appears.
There is a feeling and there is the solid awareness in which the feeling is experienced.
There is the movement of life and there is the stillness presence of life.
Which is never separate from any experience.
We don't need to wait for the mind to become silent.
We can simply become aware of the silence that is already here.
Between one thought before the next.
And as we begin to notice,
The spaces may seem to become wider.
Not because we are making them wider.
But because we are no longer being distracted.
By the momentum of thought.
We are becoming increasingly aware of the stillness presence.
Between Thoughts So now there is nothing to prepare for.
Nothing to be vigilant over.
Simply be aware of this quiet,
Open presence.
Which has always been present.
And for now,
Be still inwardly and recognize that which is here.
Eternally present.
And open stillness.
Behind.
And between all thinking.
