Hello again and welcome.
Have you ever felt that your body just cannot relax?
Even when there is nothing apparently wrong.
There can still be a sense of tension.
As though the body is waiting for something to happen.
Many people lived this way for years.
The body remains in a state of readiness,
Even when there is no.
Immediate challenge or difficulty.
One of the hormones involved in their responses to stress is cortisol.
Cortisol though is not the enemy.
It is one of the body's essential hormones.
It helps us wake in the morning,
Respond to challenges,
And mobilize the resources we need when something requires our attention.
The difficulty can arise when the symptoms involve in the stress response.
Remain switched on.
For longer.
Than unneeded.
So perhaps rather than asking,
How do I fight cortisol?
We could ask.
What can I do to support the body?
In returning it to balance.
There are many practical ways,
And here are some,
In no particular order.
A relaxing walk,
Especially in nature,
Can be deeply sterile.
There is something about being outside where everything feels naturally unconstrained.
Free and spacious.
This can allow the body and the mind to fully relax.
Filling the gentle warmth of the morning sun.
Or simply opening the windows and allowing.
Fresh air to move in through your home.
Can also change the atmosphere.
Around you.
Movement matters also.
Gentle Yoga,
Stretching walking,
Pilates.
Or some gentle strength training.
Can reconnect the mind with the body.
Helping both to refocus and relax.
Massage can also offer the body an opportunity for deep relaxation.
Through the experience of touch and the simple experience of being.
Of receiving.
Laughter can be deeply restorative.
Exchanging a warm,
Sincere smile.
Watching something that genuinely makes you laugh.
Or simply spending time with people you enjoy.
Can help restore.
A sense of ease in the body and the mind.
Human connection matters.
A warm hug.
A sincere conversation.
Calling a friend.
Even joining a choir can bring connection.
Belonging and shared joy.
Helping someone who may be in need.
Offering a small act of kindness.
Giving someone your time.
Or donating to a charity.
Can gently change the direction.
Of your attention.
When attention becomes completely absorbed in our own problems,
The world can become very small.
Acts of kindness can gently open our awareness to the world again through compassion.
Self-giving and care.
Practising gratitude each day can do something similar.
Not in pretending that everything is perfect.
But by noticing what is already supporting us.
Keeping us safe.
And bringing some comfort into our lives.
Caring for the body also matters.
Freshly prepared nutritious meals,
Drinking plenty of fresh water.
And being mindful of excesses with sugar,
Alcohol,
And caffeine all can support the body's natural balance.
Simply becoming more aware of what we put into our body and how it affects us and our overall sense of well-being and calm.
Our surroundings matter too.
Tidying up our living space.
Clearing what is no longer needed can create a softer,
More welcoming and open environment.
You could perhaps even spend some time with the arts.
Creative pursuit.
Visit a museum,
An art gallery,
Listen to your favourite music.
Read an inspiring book,
Or learn to play a musical instrument.
Creativity reminds us that life is not only about solving problems.
It is also an open field of possibilities.
A way of expressing something within us.
Allowing it to find an outlet.
Beyond the thinking mind.
And if you have a loving pet,
Spending time with a dog or a cat.
Can be a beautiful reminder of being present,
Of self-giving,
And of simply joy in the connection.
All of these experiences can remind the body that life is far more than self-focus.
More than stress or worry.
Supporting the body isn't simply about trying to lower one's hormones.
It's about creating the conditions in which the body can naturally return toward greater clarity.
Balance,
Flow and ease.
A life with movement,
Connection,
Nature,
Laughter,
Creativity,
Kindness,
Beauty.
And moments of stillness.
Not perfectly,
But naturally woven into each day.
Because often it isn't one great change that restores our balance.
Our sense of presence.
Or our connection with life.
It is the very small,
Supportive things repeated throughout our lives on a regular basis.
That can gradually create meaningful change in our overall wellbeing.
Every war.
Every moment in nature.
Every laugh.
Every conversation.
Every act of kindness.
Every movement of gratitude.
Every experience of beauty.
Quietly becomes part of the environment.
In which the body lives and thrives.
And perhaps the question isn't only How do I lower?
Cortisol Perhaps the deeper question is,
What kind of life allows my body to stop feeling that it needs to be on guard?
And perhaps that is where true balance.
Calm and joy.
Begins.
