Hello,
Welcome back,
My name is Pratika.
This video was called A Timeless Unfolding.
From who am I to what am I?
Today let's explore together a question,
Or perhaps two questions,
That have quietly echoed through countless spiritual traditions.
Questions that have invited human beings to look beyond appearances.
And discover what is fundamentally true.
The first is perhaps the most familiar.
Who am I?
It is one of the most profound questions one can ask,
Because for most of our lives we assume we already know the answer.
We believe ourselves to be this person,
This body,
This mind.
A collection of memories,
Experiences,
Beliefs,
Preferences,
Hopes,
Fears.
A life story continually unfolding through time.
Yet,
When the question,
Who am I,
Is held without reaching for an answer,
Something begins to change.
A tension which has been flowing outward towards the world gently begins to turn inward.
There is a quiet noticing,
Perhaps,
I am not merely my thoughts.
Perhaps I am not simply my emotions.
Perhaps I'm not even the story I have carried for so long.
Gradually,
The inquiry loosens our identification with the personal self.
This is a beautiful unfolding and for many it is life changing.
Yet there may come a quiet moment when the inquiry naturally deepens,
Not because who am I was incomplete,
But because it has quietly fulfilled its purpose.
It has brought awareness to the threshold of the unknowable.
And then,
Almost without intention,
Another question begins to emerge.
Not who am I,
But what am I?
At first,
The difference appears very small,
Just a single word.
Perhaps it changes the whole direction of the inquiry.
Because who still points towards someone?
Someone to discover.
Someone to understand.
Someone to awaken,
And so the mind can continue searching.
It may even arrive at some conclusions.
I am awareness.
I am consciousness.
I am the self.
These may be beautiful pointers,
Yet they still come from knowledge,
Ideas held by the mind.
But WhatMI has a very different quality.
It does not invite another identity.
It does not seek a better description of the person.
Instead,
It quietly shifts awareness from the personal to the impersonal.
Not impersonal as something distant or cold or detached.
But impersonal because it belongs to no one.
It has no owner,
No center,
No history.
No boundary.
The inquiry is no longer about discovering who I am.
It becomes a timeless opening into that.
Which has always been here.
A solid invitation to notice the stillness.
That is the very nature of being itself.
If we remain without the question,
Without reaching for an answer.
Something extraordinary may begin to reveal itself.
Not as a new experience,
Not as a special stage.
Nor there is something to attain.
But as that which has always been present.
Quietly,
Effortlessly,
Simply here.
It has never belonged to the person.
It has never been created by the mind.
It has simply been overlooked as attention became absorbed.
In the movements of experience.
Perhaps this is why the deepest recognition is not an achievement.
It is not the acquisition of something new.
It is the quiet dissolving of the belief.
That anything was ever absent.
And yet even that may say too much.
Nothing is remembered,
Nothing is gained,
Nothing is recognised,
Because what it is has never become an object of recognition.
Like clouds slowly parting to reveal the open sky.
The sky has not appeared,
It was never absent.
So too the soul of presence has never arrived.
It has never lived.
It simply is.
Then even the question,
What am I,
Begins to grow quiet.
Not because it has been answered,
But because it has fulfilled its purpose.
The inquiry has carried awareness to the very edge of all that can be known.
The edge where the mind can go no further.
Where every answer,
Every conclusion,
Every certainty quietly comes to rest.
Some have called this the abyss.
Not an abyss of darkness,
But an abyss of infinite openness,
Boundless,
Silent.
Without center.
Without age.
And here,
With great joy,
One steps into the abyss.
Where there is no one left to step on.
Nothing has been found,
Nothing has been lost,
Only the dream of separation has quietly come to an end.
What remains cannot be named,
Cannot be held.
Cannot be possessed.
It's simple to use.
Only this.
Timelessness.
Stillness.
Wholeness.
Blessings to you.
