The Rhythm of Life's Fragility There are moments when the fragile nature of life may feel unsettling.
When uncertainty,
Change,
Or the awareness of impermanence touches something tender within us.
This meditation is not here to solve life's fragility.
It is here to help you feel supported and steady within it.
To rediscover the underlying rhythm that has always been with you,
Breath by breath,
Moment by moment.
To begin,
Sit back comfortably and relax.
Breathing as you would normally,
Remain still.
Now bring to your heart how are you feeling around the impermanence of life.
Pause for a moment.
Close your eyes.
Sit with this quietly.
Let your breath continue to flow in its own natural rhythm.
There is nothing to control,
Nothing to change.
Sit quietly,
Just as you are here.
Remain relaxed and aware of the question.
No philosophy,
No concepts,
Just your quiet awareness.
Now notice the inhalation of your breath,
Then the exhalation of your breath.
Breath is moving through and with you.
Here,
Without effort,
The body intuitively knows the presence of breathing.
The heart knows its own rhythmical pulse.
There are steady,
Quiet rhythms present here.
You are sustained and energised by their flow.
Life here now is living itself as you,
Breathing you,
Beating as your heart.
Now there are times when the awareness of life's fragility can leave us feeling unsettled and vulnerable.
Then when we stand back,
We come to realise there is a constant movement all around us.
Circumstances change,
Thoughts come and go,
Moments pass,
People pass by,
All a constant flow.
And yet,
There is something unmoving as well,
Something whole and quietly assuring.
Acceptance of our fragility can reduce anxiety or stress as we relax with the finite nature of life.
Like waves rising and receding.
Like the seasons turning.
Like the breath entering and leaving the body.
Like the silent beat of the heart.
Like sunrises and sunsets.
We live daily with constant change,
With changing rhythms.
Rest again for a moment.
Are these changes being received in your quiet deepening awareness?
For deepening inner connection,
If sitting should ever feel too constrained,
Stand,
Go for a walk,
A hike.
Take in some fresh air in the quiet beauty of nature.
Perhaps feel the cool morning mist on your face,
Or the warmth of the sunrise on your body,
Or the soft earth beneath your feet.
Or perhaps you would like to put on a piece of inspiring music and feel its spacious freedom,
Each movement,
Each moment expansive and uplifting.
Each lived experience is unique in that moment.
Life is not asking us to live in fear or in isolation.
It is calling us to experience,
To live,
To embrace all while we can.
This is the very essence of being human.
Being joyful,
Alive and truly living,
These are the gifts we can all enjoy and share.
Loving,
Exploring,
Experiencing,
Sharing,
Creating,
So many options as you live each finite moment.
Now you may sense some tightening around the thoughts of,
This is finite,
There will come a time,
There are things I cannot control,
I won't be here forever.
All these are very natural feelings,
All reflective.
Now beneath the mind's concerns there is a quiet stillness,
A steady presence,
An unmoving awareness.
The awareness that is the living presence of your breath,
Quietly witnessing your thoughts.
Is this awareness disturbed by personal fragility?
Or is it quietly witnessing the passing rhythms of life?
Rest again for a moment,
Not in a story of fragility,
But as the quiet awareness in which fragility appears.
Return to the breath once more,
Simple,
Uncomplicated,
Arriving,
Leaving.
Life's fragility is not something you need to conquer.
It is something you can openly move with,
With joy,
And embrace the whole journey.
The same rhythm that carries the tides,
Carries your breath.
The natural intelligence that turns the seasons,
Beats your heart.
You are not outside of life's fragility.
You are for now part of its timeless rhythm and flow.
And within that rhythm there is a steadiness,
A deeper,
Silent knowing.
Now to conclude,
Take one long inner breath,
Pause at the top,
Then slowly exhale.
And when you are ready,
Slowly open your eyes.
And now as you move into each day,
Feel supported.
Carry with you this lightness of acceptance,
A quiet knowing that you are part of a rhythm and a flow far greater than the thinking mind can grasp.
You are not separate from life's unfolding.
You are the breeze that fills its sails.
Trust the rhythm.
Feel supported.
Trust the timeless intelligence that effortlessly carries you.
