Hello and welcome to this playful art meditation.
For this meditation,
You will need a writing pad and a few writing utensils,
Preferably in different colors.
To make room for creativity to naturally arise,
Let us first ground our bodies into the present moment.
Find a comfortable seat,
Whether on the floor or in a chair.
You can straighten your legs or cross them,
Whatever feels good.
Now bring your awareness to where you are sitting.
Feel the support of your body resting,
Your spine,
Shoulder,
And neck relaxed.
Release the tension in your jaw and your temples and allow your eyes to soften and close.
Breathe gently in and out,
Allowing your chest to rise with ease and open your mouth to exhale.
Take a few gentle breaths and find your natural breathing flow,
Not pushing or forcing.
Breathing gently and with full awareness.
Maybe you feel the coolness of air come into your nostrils,
Or maybe you feel the exhale softly grounding your energy down.
Put both hands in the center of your chest where your energetic heart lives.
Feel into the radiance of the sacred connection between you and your beautiful heart.
Notice if you feel a tingling sensation or warmth in your hands.
If you feel nothing that is absolutely fine too.
Creativity is a heart centered practice that reminds us that our inner child,
That playful intuitive and sensitive side of us also needs compassion and tenderness.
With intention,
Send your inner child some love.
Maybe it's a sweet hug,
Or and I love you.
Any reminder that you can give to your child will help them to feel safe and supported to work with you in your creative pursuits.
Thank your inner child for being here with you.
And when you are ready,
Go ahead and flutter your eyes open and come back to the space.
Follow the light and look around the room to increase them back into the present moment.
Pick up your writing pad and open to a blank page.
Look over your writing utensils and notice if there is a color that is calling you right now.
Don't think about it.
Just trust that this is the color that wants to begin.
Feel utensils in your hand.
Move your wrist in an imaginary circle.
Notice if your wrist and hand is stiff and just relax it.
Now take your pen and place it anywhere on the pad.
It doesn't matter where.
Keep the pen in one place and notice your breathing.
Next,
Inhale,
Move the pen in any direction to begin your doodle.
You can move the pen in various spirals or swirls around the page.
You can change direction if you'd like.
Just keep your pen moving and calm and centered swirls.
Keep breathing gently and smoothly and notice how you feel.
If you feel some overwhelming sensations or tension in your body,
Just take a deep breath and continue.
And when you feel like you've doodled enough,
Put your pen down and look at your drawing.
Is there a shape that is coming out to greet you from the page?
Is there an intuitive message that you've received since you started this meditation?
Write it down in any place of your choosing on the page.
Feel free to turn the pad a number of times to notice different viewpoints of your doodle.
They will look different from every angle.
Pick anyone that is capturing your attention.
Do you notice shapes connected by lines that make something else?
An animal?
A face,
Perhaps?
We are just noticing,
Allowing our imagination to play and create meaning.
There is no wrong way to do it.
And if you see a shape,
Take another color and outline it.
You don't have to follow any lines.
Just allow your hand to intuitively move with the color.
If you don't see a shape,
Fill in the gaps of the doodle with different colors.
You can add a pattern or draw circles,
Stars,
Hearts,
Zigzags in the empty spaces within your drawing.
Feel free to write words or messages in the doodle as well,
If that feels right.
Remember,
You will not be graded for this.
This is your own playtime and you are doing it beautifully.
Continue with your doodle until it feels right to stop.
