This technique can be used to help you get grounded when you’re feeling disconnected or separate from yourself. It is helpful when you find yourself spending too much time in the past or the future and when you just want to take a minute to come back to the present moment. This exercise was designed by Abigail Morgan for her Mind-Body Magic program.

This exercise was created to help you get grounded when you're feeling disconnected or separate from yourself.

Because this exercise could be considered a form of meditation,

And I will ask you to close your eyes,

Do not listen to it while driving,

Operating machinery,

Or doing any activity that requires you to be alert.

Please use good judgment and be safe when meditating or doing this exercise.

Let's begin.

Sit comfortably with your feet flat on the floor and breathe normally.

Close your eyes.

Feel yourself sitting and supported by the surface you are on.

Think of a positive or joyful experience in your life.

This could be a memory of a person,

A success,

A place you love,

Or anything else that feels empowering and good.

As you inhale,

Let your breath drop into your low belly.

You might imagine there's a balloon in your low belly that expands and relaxes with each inhale and exhale.

Gently hum for a few moments.

Imagine the sound traveling from your throat to your tailbone.

You can also feel the sound of your mouth moving.

You can also feel the sound of your mouth moving.

Now notice your toes,

The balls of your feet,

Your arches,

Heels,

And tops of your feet.

Notice what sensations you feel and where you feel them.

Imagine your feet are very heavy.

Now imagine that your awareness is sinking down into your body like you're a bucket being filled with water.

Feel your energy filling up your body.

Hum again for a few breaths.

You can hum and be with your breath for as long as you would like,

And whenever you are guided to do so,

And at the pace that feels right for you,

Take a couple of deep breaths,

Wiggle your toes and fingers,

And slowly open your eyes as you bring your awareness back to the room.

You may want to write about your experience.

Please take the time to do so now.
