Hi friend,
If today is your first day of school,
Or maybe the first day in a new classroom,
This meditation is especially for you.
Find a comfortable position.
Place both feet on the floor if you can.
Let your shoulders relax.
Rest your hands in your lap.
You can close your eyes or simply look softly.
At one spot in front of you.
Let's begin.
With one big breath.
Breathe in through your nose.
Go all the way up.
And then slowly let the breath out Again,
Breathe in,
Fill all the way up.
And then let it out.
The first days can bring lots of feelings.
You might feel excited.
Nervous Happy.
Shy.
Curious.
Or maybe you don't even know exactly how you feel yet.
Whatever you're feeling right now.
It's okay to notice it.
Imagine your feelings are like the weather.
Maybe your inside weather feels sunny.
Maybe it's cloudy.
Maybe there are a few nervous thunderstorms.
Weather changes,
And feelings change too.
Take another slow breath in.
And then let it back out.
Now imagine yourself.
Walking into school.
Notice the door.
The hallway,
The sounds around you.
Maybe.
There are lots of people.
Maybe.
There are new faces.
And imagine carrying.
A little invisible bubble of calm around you.
Inside this bubble.
Your breath is always available.
No matter what's happening around you.
You can come back to it.
Let's practice something you can use anytime today.
Place one hand on your belly.
Slowly breathe in and feel your belly expand with your breath.
Now,
Slowly breathe out and feel it soften.
Again,
Breathe in and fill the air.
Breathe out and soften.
If you feel nervous today,
You can do that.
Nobody even needs to know.
Your breath is your quiet superpower.
Now,
Imagine meeting someone new.
Maybe you smile.
Maybe you say hello.
Maybe someone smiles at you.
You don't have to make 20 new friends today.
One smile is enough.
One hello is enough.
One small,
Brave moment is enough.
Now imagine something feels difficult today.
Maybe you don't know where to go.
Maybe you don't understand something.
Maybe you make a mistake.
Take a breath.
And remember.
I can ask for help.
Say quietly in your mind.
I don't have to know everything.
I am here to learn.
I can be brave and nervous at the same time.
I belong here.
Take one final deep breath in.
Filling yourself up with courage and then let the breath out.
Letting go of anything you don't need to carry with you today.
Now wiggle your fingers,
Move your toes.
Roll your shoulders back.
And when you're ready,
Open your eyes.
Your only job today is to show up.
Notice.
Learn.
And be yourself.
One breath.
One moment.
One brave little step at a time.
Have an amazing first day!
