During our time together today,
We will focus on our five senses.
Sight,
Taste,
Touch,
Sound,
And smell.
We will also take a trip together to focus more on all of our senses.
I want to encourage you to find yourself in a relaxed position.
Feel free to either soften your gaze or completely close your eyes.
I want for us to begin our time together by taking time to notice our breath without altering it in any way.
Use this time to turn inward and listen to your inhales and exhales.
Allow for yourself to breathe life into your body.
While you have taken time to turn inward,
I want for us to practice a grounding activity with our five senses.
As we start with our sight,
I want for you to just name five things that you saw before you closed your eyes,
Whether it was your phone,
A lamp,
Or a picture on the wall.
Just name five things you remember seeing before you closed your eyes.
As we move to touch,
I want for you to name four things that you can feel.
Whether it is your toes on the carpet,
Your hands on your thighs,
Or your back on your bed.
Just name four things that you can feel.
Any time you feel that you get stuck with naming any of the senses,
Feel free to name things that you would like to see,
Hear,
Smell,
Feel,
Or taste.
Now I want for you to begin to transition to the sounds around you.
I want for you to name three things that you can hear.
Whether it's the grass outside,
My voice,
Or a ticking clock.
Just name three things that you can hear.
Now I want for you to focus on naming two things that you can smell.
Whether it is a candle burning,
The aroma within the room,
Or any food that you have cooking.
Just name two things that you can smell.
As we focus on our last sense,
I want for you to name one thing you can taste.
Whether it is something that you just ate,
Water,
Whether you can taste the scent around you in the room.
Name one thing you can taste.
Any time you feel that you need grounding,
Feel free to just name your senses.
As we begin to take our trip,
I want for you to take a great big inhale in through your nose,
The biggest one that you've taken all day,
And let it all out through your mouth.
Imagine yourself walking into a place with happy babies.
Upon entering the room,
What do you see?
What does that place sound like?
What does that place smell like?
Why are the babies happy?
What does that emotion feel like for you?
Now I want for you to visualize a happy baby coming up to you.
What does that look like?
What does that sound like?
What does that feel like?
Now I want for you to let that visualization go and continue breathing your natural breath.
Oxytocin changes the way the brain responds to a baby's laughter.
When hearing a baby's laughter,
Oxytocin leads to reduced activity in the amygdala,
Which is the area in the brain region that involves in processing fear,
Threats,
Or anxiety.
Low oxytocin levels have been linked to symptoms of depression and anxiety.
You can increase oxytocin by doing,
Thinking,
Or planning things that are pleasant to you.
What are a few things that you can do,
Think,
Or plan that are pleasant to you?
What are some things that you can do that are pleasant to you?
What are some things that you can do that are pleasant to you?
And I want to leave you with this,
Positive emotional energy is the key to health,
Happiness,
And wellbeing.
