As you find a comfortable position to relax and be still,
Come back to state of receptivity as you find this comfortable position not just physically but just also allowing this space of receptivity to find a comfortable point deep within this space of awareness allowing for transformation to happen very naturally.
As you breathe in and breathe out this still point can also be a physical still point within.
If you focus on the abdomen or the area around the solar plexus you'll notice that stillness can be created or replicated in the physical body as well as in the mental body and the nervous body nervous system body and it's not just a physical sensation but it's also a sensation that communicates on many levels whereby this still point this point within this essence that communicates stillness becomes more tangible and more obvious and more of an experience that you can relate to it's not just something that you're thinking about or hoping for it's something that you can actually experience right now in this moment.
So as you breathe in and breathe out and as you let go of the tension or the mundane aspects of stress and anxiety you come back to this space of receptivity sometimes as we let go of stress anxiety as we let go of suffering as we let go of various situations that lead to pain or suffering various mundane aspects of the world that create this state of tension or anxiety within our bodies and also within our thinking systems sometimes as we let go things come up to the surface and as human beings we all have a natural inclination towards fear meaning that we're prepared for fear it's inbuilt into our chemistry it's inbuilt into our physiology to always be on alert if there is something that creates pain or suffering or creates a sense of danger at least the way the mind sees it if there is a situation out there that is not pleasant and the mind sees it as dangerous or threatening on some level then that tension anxiety very often gets translated on some level into a fearful picture or a fearful space within ourselves that needs to create a movement within our experience it can't be just put into one corner and forgotten about because as we activate it through the tension or anxiety or even our thinking and that fear system that is inbuilt into the chemistry of our bodies into the structure of our brains sometimes creates a energetic stimulation or an energetic movement within part of our brain the left hemisphere that processes language that allows us to conceptualize what that fearful experience is all about so when fear has is energetic enough when fear is very alive or very very strong very often it can create a traumatic experience within this part of the brain meaning that the brain only becomes receptive to the signals that are being communicated through that fear-based structure so we can't actually think in the end our thinking is compromised or limited by the fact that the fear overrides the logical ways of perceiving what is going on or even the intuitive ways of perceiving what is going on or even the calm and happy ways of reflecting upon what is going on the fear is an urgent message that gets communicated in such a way where everything else is put aside because not as important as survival or as making sure that everything is okay if signals are saying there is a danger then we have to make sure everything is okay so very often the fear becomes so powerful that the physiology within the left hemisphere of the brain stops functioning in the normal way and we have a situation where very often because we need to function we can't be constantly in fear about this or that especially if the fear is not based on a physical actual threat meaning that you have to run fight-or-flight situation doesn't happen but the fear is there anyway then this gets translated into a trauma so the fear is no longer as important as fear when you see a lion chasing you or if there is a car coming towards you you have to run to get out of the way the fear then is translated into the traumatic experience and that still has the same effect within the brain as fear but it's constant meaning that the traumatic experience doesn't go away until you understand what the communication there is all about the traumatic experience gets stored in the physiology of your body meaning that the left part of the brain conceptual language forming aspect of the brain no longer can function in a normal way because there is a trauma there that is limiting the actual communication and this trauma often leads to the perception of the world in a negative way meaning that on some level even though you try to be positive about what's going on and there is no actual in reality there is no actual problem with what is going on you perceive what is going on as a problem because the traumatic experience is being translated into the physiology of your experience so you feel or your sense that something is not right don't know what it is because trauma means that usually you you're not aware of the trauma if you're aware of the trauma you're only aware of it in in words meaning that you okay I fell and I hurt myself and it was traumatic but the actual communication within the trauma how you perceive falling and how you process that information within your brain is invisible to your thinking so you your thoughts are not connected to it to the actual experience or processing the actual experience is very different from being aware of what is really going on just as a conceptual thought being aware of what is going on even if you understand what's really going on is very different so in spiritual practice in meditation very often people become disturbed by the release of fear or the release of the structures that allow for fear to remain part of our personality or our egoic perception of the world and when we sit in meditation in stillness when we are receptive to transmission very often that is challenged simply because it's impossible to be happy and to be sad at the same time you have to make a choice you can't smile and cry at the same time I don't think you can I've seen some clowns try to do that but that's just sort of a game that they're playing but in real life you know it's you can switch from one to another if you're very clever like some politicians are and like some business people out there aren't you know they have control of their physical expressions but still it's all the same for everyone in the end the process of information that is flowing through your body through your mind through the structure of your brain is the same doesn't matter what you portray to the world still the same so if you're sitting in meditation and that aim is being challenged and the not okay feeling of fear comes up to the surface very often if there is a trauma and for most people there there are many traumas because that's part of what happens in life but some traumas stick to certain people in such a way that that those traumas create a difference to the quality of life and to the way that we communicate to ourselves and to other people and if that is the case and that comes up to the surface it's seen as danger and the fear mechanism usually overrides the actual need of the need to communicate this in a different way to communicate this that which is coming up to process the information of what is coming up in a different way so very often we sit in meditation and before even the experience begins to communicate to the mind in in conceptual language the fear is there we feel the fear and we don't want that experience because spirituality or meditational practice is all about just feeling good isn't it that's what we say to ourselves anything that doesn't feel good we want to sort of limit that experience to the minimum and in the end that means that we begin to not enjoy spiritual practice because the spiritual practice then becomes a space where if we keep negating the trauma or the fear that is coming up to the surface that is attempting to communicate to you then the same mechanism of fear plays out that becomes reinforced because as soon as it comes up to the surface the physiology of that fear becomes stronger so the fight-or-flight mechanism in the body and many other hormonal releases that happen when you are in fear and get set activated and put into motion so there you are sitting in meditation still quiet and then all of a sudden you're feeling uneasy or you're feeling tense or you're feeling or you're challenging or being challenged by thoughts or feeling certain experiences that come up to the surface and your spiritual practice your meditational practice is more of a battle than an actual state of positive relaxation so if this is the case or if you even come to the if you realize that you're coming back to an experience that's unpleasant that is negative meaning that the mind begins to become too active in thinking and the thoughts are sort of don't have a thread of flow and don't have a thread of communication to them and they're just chaotic and you're thinking about this then thinking about that and it's important to realize that we have to bypass the left part of the brain conceptual hemisphere language hemisphere of the brain that tries to always control communication and put that communication in a form of language in words and we're so used to listening to the communication from this conceptual level of words or language that we forget that we have many other ways of communicating to the world and also many other ways to communicating in such a way so that that communication is obvious to us beyond just the words and one way which I highly recommend if this is the case sit in meditation for the 23 24 minutes and just be there be present even if it's unpleasant be there present to the unpleasantness that is going on just be mindful of all that is going on without judging or trying to change things without trying to make the meditation more positive or turn turn things around in a certain way just be mindful and then at the end of meditation at the end of the spiritual practice continue the spiritual practice or the meditation but in a different way and actually have a pen and paper or some pens coloring pens and paper and begin to draw a face and just a face but without trying to make it all special or like this is not about being artistic or a genius painting and an amazing picture of some sort it's rather about communication so just allow the communication that is happening within you to continue expressing itself beyond language beyond words allow the communication to just be drawn in onto the paper this face draw the eyes especially important because these are all the place parts of the physiology of the structure of the body which affects physiology of thinking that are important to to get back in touch with and so draw the eyes and the mouth two very important parts of the face that and choose the colors that reflect and the structure and doesn't have to be nice because sometimes trauma and fear it's not nice so you don't have to draw a happy picture if that's not what really needs to be communicated listen to your body listen to listen to the intuitive aspect of yourself and draw that picture just as if you are on auto you're not thinking about all that needs to have pink or it needs to have purple you're just saying okay that's a black color that's a white color or that's a red color or that's and your intuition explains to you wow yeah that's exactly what I feel that's what exactly the experience and just practice this for five ten minutes you know practice this meditation for five ten minutes where you're just on auto and drawing that which is going on inside of me see the thing when you draw your your not just draw sometimes also sing but especially drawing you are touching upon a different part of your brain that bypasses this conceptual language forming part of your thinking you are able to bypass thinking just by drawing so in trauma or when when there is a lot of fear this part of the brain shuts down the communication language shuts down or becomes constricted in such a way that possible it's impossible to communicate in a real way because you're so affected by the energy of the trauma or the energy of fear that your thinking is distorted we see this in depressed people you know you no matter what the thoughts and the communication the conceptual communication that's happening has no bearing to reality so you know to say to someone in in that state you know just cheer up you know just be strong and cheer up it's immature this physiology of the brain is basically controlling the language center and it's dysfunctional and we see this in traumatic experiences with children and we see this in traumatic experiences when we give up hope and we give up this sort of excitement about life and we say life okay what to do that's a trauma in itself because we're going against the natural inclination that we are born with and that is this sense of positivity this sense of joy just to be alive you know as you when you see children who are free of traumas and just running on the grass and just happy to explore life in the moment without anything else there are no burdens no heaviness they're just happy because that is the natural inclination of all life not just human beings so if that's not the case the fear of trauma needs to be still understood but beyond the conceptual language of understanding that we're used to so we need to drop the addiction to try to always understand everything from the mind why am I like this why am I thinking like this what's the purpose what happened to make this happen why is there and then this whole search has no meaning because there is no meaning in that search for some people there is meaning but if your mind is already influenced in such a way and it's shut down that part of the brain has shut down and can't be open and receptive to the actual feedback from asking yourself these questions then you have to find another way more positive way a more functional way and this is through drawing it's an amazing thing and you can do this with children you can do this with adults doesn't matter because we all have a natural inclination to communicate on many levels and drawing is ancient we know this as we look at some of the drawings in the ancient caves that are so very old and so very beautiful people always processed information and created an understanding about information by drawing pictures and when you do this after meditation sometimes the level and depth of communication that happens is so very profound that you open new channels and you change the physiology of your brain you're actually releasing the trauma or the fear and healing allowing for the healing mechanism to be set in motion and this is when the next time you sit and meditate or you listen and you're receptive to transmission the transmission of healing that's when things become more profound and change because there is a communication now that's happening that previously was compromised because the body just didn't allow for that to happen even if you sat in med it even if you sit in meditation without a deeper form of connection that happens when you draw that happens when you process the information and let go of the mundane traumas or even just the negative thoughts that accumulate simply because we've given up on life we've given up on the excitement and the awe that happens when you're open to new learnings when you're open to new communications when we let go of that and lose ourselves in depression or lose ourselves in what Freud I think called just the the affliction of humanity where there is just a pervasive sort of sadness a pervasive sort of unhappiness that is part of our cultural paradigm when we let go of this simply because we change the way that we process information and the joy and blissful connection to life begins to become more obvious in the beginning very subtly but as you continue drawing the communication in such a way where your mind begins to comprehend what is going on because you look at the picture later on after a week or two weeks and you say ah that's the thread of communication that I've been missing all this time and everything begins to make sense and the vibration of healing becomes very powerful just like the mantra the sound of joy the sound of bliss is experienced through the vibration of space as you breathe in and breathe out be open be receptive to the vibration of the mantra you you

I have been very depressed for many years, but not fully aware of the extent of it until recently. I have been trying so hard to understand why I have struggled greatly with self-love. What happened in my past to create such self-loathing in me? I have been in therapy and I have heard many times that I may never know or understand everything that has contributed to my depression. But something about this talk/meditation led me to the greatest emotional release I have ever had. And it started with the discussion of the drawing. I imagined what I might draw, and things slowly started to come up. I simply rode the waves of emotions that came up, and I was finally able to simply let go without trying to understand the reason for or source of the pain. I feel a lot better. Thank you.

Fantastic! You have articulated this complex subject in such a way that is understandable and hopeful in the healing process. It's constant work and a lot of frustration to achieve a short amount of attention span when meditating due to past trauma. But having just one second of body and mind stillness with no vibration is indescribable and worth the hard work. Thank you Tony for this.
