You you you you Wonderful day today for some,
For other people,
A little bit intense,
I was told the other day so just making sure that you let go of this intensity if you're feeling this or if you're experiencing this through your thinking or through your body through the stress that you may be aware of in your body,
Just making sure that you find a comfortable place to let go of all these things that sometimes seem so very important and coming back or moving back home to a deeper space of presence very often this requires that the mind is able to focus at at the subject that it's looking at in a more objective way so perhaps the subject can be now the breath so rather than the breath being reactive to perhaps the stress or the intensity of experience the breath can be the guide that helps you to move back to this deeper space,
Coming back to this present moment but of course if the breath is challenged by the stress in the body,
Meaning its structure has changed to adapt to the stress that you may be aware of that's in the body,
Then the result is shallow breathing and it's very difficult to see this if the breath is habituated to breathing in certain ways so a very simple and practical way of allowing the breath to come back to a rhythm that is more present to this moment or a rhythm that is more aware and present to the experience of living beyond the stresses or the intensities that one may be feeling is to make sure that the breath contains within it this rhythm of consciousness and this simple technique of just counting every breath that you breathe into your body allows the focus to move away from the mundane stresses that captivate the breath sometimes in a very,
Very addictive way,
Sometimes in a way that is not easy to see and as you breathe in and breathe out and say count to one,
Then breathe in and breathe out and say count to two and you continue doing this up to the number ten,
Then you simply go back to counting the breath every time you reach ten,
You go back to counting starting from one this creates a sort of different momentum within the meditation now the breath is the focus,
Not the stresses or the intensity,
It's difficult to move out of stress just by wanting to move out of stress or by wanting to change things but by being aware of the breathing in a different way so that the rhythm of breath is more present to the experience of being here and just looking at things as they are rather than through the perceptions that the mind creates and we become more easily connected to the very many aspects of our experience,
We ground ourselves in the body we come back here to this moment,
No matter what's going on,
Even if your heart is sort of tense because there are so many demands you come back to just naturally relaxing,
Breathing in this way is a very relaxing experience for many people sometimes it becomes so relaxing that counting to ten is difficult,
You relax and then you begin to drift into,
Say at the count of four or five you drift into something and oops,
You've forgotten what number you've been counting up to and all of a sudden you're thinking,
Did I reach four or should I go back to two as soon as you recognize that you've forgotten or lost a little bit of the focus and forgotten the counting number that you reached,
Then simply go back to zero meaning just starting all over again,
So it's not a stress,
It's not like a mathematical formula,
This is just a simple focus that allows the mind to relax into the simplicity of being so you're connecting the mind to the rhythm of breathing that is more conscious,
So the mind sort of sinks into the body and connects to the experience of this moment rather than chasing the mind's activity in the next moment,
In the future or looking at the past and getting caught by the emotional or the mental reactivity that happens because we're looking at say a painful situation that may have been important in the past,
But in this present moment as things are right now,
The breath is what is important and practice this for a little while,
It's very relaxing and very enjoyable and very important because part of awareness,
Part of meditation or practice is to come back to being able to focus on one thing at a time if we can't focus on our breath and relax our breath in this way,
Then of course we can't focus on anything in life,
Then our minds just play the game of getting caught in whichever situation is most powerful,
Whichever situation is most intense this is why there is a tendency for human beings to not relax,
To get caught in all sorts of different things for whatever reasons,
It's not that that is something that you need to judge as good or bad but it's just the default mechanism that is created within our evolutionary structure,
So it's important to be discerning and to be clear that if we can't manage to be present to the very fundamental aspect of breathing then our focus is very likely to be lost in the space of thinking,
In the activity of thinking,
And the thoughts are very reactive to all sorts of situations that sometimes are not really relevant in helping us to fulfill happiness within ourselves and such fulfillment isn't of course existing in the mind,
Doesn't exist in a situation that the mind sees as important,
It exists right now,
Happiness is,
If you're happy you're happy,
You're happy right now,
It's not because of and as you breathe in this way you recognize this wisdom,
So beyond just the breath being relaxing,
Beyond just being focused and embodying the breath so that it's present within the activities of thought and feeling what we recognize is that the wisdom that we are practicing in our meditational attitude,
Being more focused and being more aware of the body in this way allows for wisdom to begin to transform our bodily and nervous system experience of the activities that the mind sees as very important,
So we create a structure where the mind can fall back into a deeper state of focus but also a deeper state of relaxation where there isn't this tension,
There isn't this agitation that keeps it moving in normal circumstances,
The mind can sort of relax into this moment so as you breathe in and breathe out and continue being aware,
Staying focused so that the breath moves to a deeper space so that you're breathing in a more profound way make sure that you're open to the experience,
Make sure that your shoulders are relaxed as you breathe in this way,
Make sure that your posture is upright so that you're not scrunching in any way but you're allowing for the breath to naturally flow so that the lungs are open,
The chest is open and the belly and the abdomen,
Just the muscles,
Not scrunched but just making sure that the muscles allow for a flow of breath,
A natural flow of breath so beyond just breathing in an aware way,
It's important that the posture reflects this awareness,
The posture that you hold now that you become more aware of the body,
You will become aware of certain habits that the mind creates in the body and in the nervous system that reflect this chaotic,
Incoherent way of recognizing happiness we are the ones creating this scrunching or tightening of muscles in the body that then doesn't allow for the flow of breath to happen in a very natural and relaxing way so as you recognize this,
It's not about judging the situation,
It's just about transforming it in the moment,
So as you recognize pain or you recognize posture that is not really useful in helping you to be open and receptive simply just address it in the moment,
Stretch a little bit or open up the body,
Open up the palms of your hands so that you are receptive,
Receptive to what is behind the breath what is beyond the breath,
The breath is very important,
The breath gives the body life,
So of course it's very important on a very fundamental level,
It is life and this is why the breath is such an important mystical aspect of spiritual growth and also of meditational practice,
But beyond the breath there is an energy that you are breathing in so as you breathe in and breathe out and come back and allow the focus to be very clear that the breathing,
The breathing that you are allowing to happen in this moment,
That breathing is more than the breath,
It's more than just physical the breathing is a deeper connection to the energy space that is around,
Connect to the space that is around you as you breathe in,
So you are breathing in the beauty of spaciousness so in the mind as you do this what happens is that you recognize that you are not limited to this physical self that the body recognizes as itself,
You begin to sort of connect to the spaciousness of existence so what you are breathing in is a connection to this spaciousness around you,
You are breathing in in a beautiful way but you are also connecting say to the beautiful nature that may be close to your home or close to wherever you are at this moment or perhaps the spaciousness of some place that you really love,
So you are breathing in this luminous quality of existence as you breathe in and you breathe out this luminous quality of existence that is within the breath,
Is the light of breath,
Is the luminosity of breath that you are bringing into this physical space that the mind understands as the self into the body,
Into this space of awareness but you are extending the space so that it moves into spaciousness,
So you are not contracting your idea of self as I am this body or I am this thought or I am this feeling you are allowing for an openness,
A receptivity where spaciousness allows for the experience to transcend beyond thoughts,
Beyond bodily,
The body pain that we very much remain connected to if we are connected to our minds in this way where we are not free to connect to the spaciousness of experience,
The spaciousness whereby awareness recognizes that there is so much within space not only beautiful nature or miracles of life,
Molecules that create all the galaxies and the trillions of stars,
Not only the wonderful creative forces that unfold and create these wonderful possibilities for all human beings to have this experience where consciousness recognizes itself.
We can move beyond a limited perspective now into spaciousness as we breathe in a more relaxed and more focused way this means that we are not caught by our addictions,
The thoughts,
The feelings that are very often so addictive that they create sort of understanding of reality that is far removed from reality of course our minds cannot comprehend reality as it is simply because our minds live in the future and in perception so as we let go of all these things through the breath,
That's the fundamental structure then the luminous light that is within the breath of life begins to open our experience to transcendence,
To a level of experience that a mind cannot comprehend,
It only happens in this moment as you put into practice a state of presence that allows for your body,
Your mind,
Your energy to recognize that there is more than what the mind is thinking about so the practice of breathing goes far beyond mechanical breathing,
It is very important to create a focused energy within the way that you breathe but it's also very important that you move beyond the mechanical stage of breath,
So meaning that you're not just counting to ten but you are inviting this open state of breathing where your focus is no longer captivated by your thoughts but rather present to this moment so as you breathe in and breathe out,
As you let go,
Come back to this wonderful space of the body,
Continue,
Continue for a few moments being present to the breath in this way,
Not just through the mind but also through the body experience of relaxation,
Of awareness continue allowing this awareness within the body to relax more deeply and to embrace the breath from this state of positivity,
From this state of wow,
I'm here,
I'm present to the breath of life,
I'm present to life,
I'm present to that which is beyond my worries about life,
I'm present to life itself in a very direct,
Clear and beautifully relaxed way,
Deep breath and stillness,
Open and receptive,
Deep breath continue for as long as you feel,
Thank you.
