Hello,
My name is James and welcome to this morning nervous system regulation practice.
Now our nervous systems are constantly expanding and contracting,
Opening and closing and that can so often feel like it's out of our control So the simple purpose of today's practice is to bring a little bit of intention and direction back into our nervous system to leave us feeling a little more resourced and capable as we flow through our day.
So you can do this practice however suits you and your body.
I'm going to encourage you to do it seated if that's accessible for you.
But find yourself a comfortable place and space.
Give yourself an opportunity just to settle in.
Knowing there's nothing expected of you over the coming minutes just to.
.
.
Follow my guidance and suggestions and.
.
.
Tune in to your internal world.
And as you arrive,
Just noticing what's supporting your body.
Maybe what beneath you.
Allowing it to take some of your weight,
Allowing you to just soften anything you're gripping or holding on to.
Maybe finding or noticing your breath for the first time this morning.
Not needing to do anything with it,
But just observing it,
Feeling it.
Allowing it to move.
And so often.
These practices we're exploring what's difficult or uncomfortable but today we're just going to notice what's pleasurable or easy or open in our body.
To just finding something that feels good this morning.
Maybe just your feet on the ground.
The flow of your breath.
Maybe it's a smell or a feeling you're getting from your environment.
Just leaning into the good or the okay.
Knowing that's available to you always.
Even when those parts of us are noisy and want to get our attention.
Those difficult or uncomfortable parts,
We can always find a little bit of comfort within.
And then to begin this practice,
Let's explore what we would like our nervous system to be open to today.
Maybe another way to look at it is what do we want to say yes to today?
So as we explore this,
Just allow one of your hands to be on your lap,
But your palm facing upwards.
So there's that feeling of openness,
Almost like you're gently cradling or holding something.
So bringing that sense of openness or inviting into your actual body and nervous system as you think ahead to your day.
Reflect on what you'd like to invite in.
What do you want to be open to say yes to explore?
What's going to feel good to your nervous system today?
Could be certain people or activities.
Feeling.
Thoughts,
Emotions.
Maybe it's just a general feeling of openness to what might arise and the unpredictable.
And noting how it feels in your body when it's a yes,
When you're open.
How does that sit in your nervous system?
And now allowing us to counter that with Feeling into a no,
A closed,
A enough.
Not for today.
So allow your other hand to come up in front of you as if you were pushing something away,
Maybe a wall in front of you or saying no with your hand.
You might want to bring a bit of movement back and forth and feel into that,
That contraction,
That no.
Maybe feel the strength and the power in that.
And again,
Thinking ahead,
What would you like to say no to today?
What do you want to remain boundaried about?
What do you choose to protect?
Allow yourself to feel into that strength and that power in your ability to choose.
Close if you want to,
To say no.
This is your way of protecting your nervous system and yourself when you need to.
And of course each and every day this will be different.
Some days we will feel more open,
Have more capacity.
Other days we may need to close more to be more boundaried.
So just play with that for a moment with both those hands feeling the openness.
Feeling,
The Know.
Maybe bringing some movement into the hands and pendulating between the two.
Noticing that they're both there always.
You can choose,
You can flex,
You can flow between both.
Any given moment is a bit of a dance between the two.
Noticing how it feels to have that sense of choice and responsibility and That sense of being able to give some direction to your nervous system and your actions throughout the rest of today.
Allowing your mind to.
.
.
Just wander through what's ahead of you now.
Whilst feeling in your body connected to choice of power,
Flexibility,
Expansion and contraction.
How does your day change or pan out when you're connected to yourself and your nervous system in this way?
And finally before.
We end this practice remembering that you can always return to the anchors in your body that feel good.
Maybe reconnecting again with your feet on the ground,
Flow of your breath.
The sensations that feel pleasurable or maybe just neutral.
Or perhaps it's the feeling of gratitude or compassion for yourself for taking the time to practice this morning.
Placing a hand on your heart to close.
And taking a nice breath in through the nose.
And let it all out through the mouth.
Ready for today.
So I really hope you enjoyed the practice and have found it useful.
And if you do have any feedback,
I always love to hear it.
So please feel free to leave a rating or review or comment.
It's always lovely to hear and see who's on the other end of the microphone.
Alright everyone,
Wishing you a wonderful day ahead and I look forward to sharing another practice with you soon.
