Meditation On Transformation
by Laura Yates
Transformation can be messing and beautiful at the same time. Connect to your own inner cocoon of self-love and self-nurturing, as you grow and accept the changes within you. This will give you the space and strength to allow your transformation to flow with ease and grace.

A meditation on the symbol of the butterfly.
Find a place where you can be free from distraction.
I invite you to sit or lie down,
Whichever is more comfortable for you.
If you're lying down,
Make sure you stay alert and aware so you don't drift off to sleep.
Take a deep breath in,
As you gently close your eyes,
As you sigh your breath out,
Sense your body softening and relaxing.
Take another deep breath in,
Feeling your body connected to the ground beneath you.
As you exhale,
Sense your shoulders and shoulder blades melting down your spine,
Relaxing further.
Taking another deep breath in,
Filling your entire body,
Breathe in completely and sigh it out fully,
Exhaling completely.
Allow your breath now to settle into a natural rhythmic flow,
In and out through your nose.
Bring your awareness to your spine,
Noticing your tailbone,
Tucking it slightly so that your spine is long and straight.
Now imagine a cord attached to your tailbone,
Stretching deep down into the earth.
Visualize this cord traveling all the way to the center of the earth,
Down,
Down,
Down,
Wrapping gently around its core,
Grounding you and connecting you to Mother Earth.
As you breathe in,
Bringing this beautiful energy from the earth,
Drawing it up through the cord and into your spine,
Filling your whole body and as you exhale,
Giving back gratitude to the earth beneath you.
On every inhale,
Feel this cleansing,
Grounding earth energy rising through your spine and spreading through your body.
On every exhale,
Let go just a little more,
Surrendering into the space,
Relaxing,
Knowing you are felt safe and held by the earth beneath you.
With this beautiful connection to the earth,
Begin to visualize the image of a caterpillar.
See this beautiful caterpillar as it prepares to enter its cocoon,
Spinning a safe and sacred space for its transformation.
As this caterpillar spins its cocoon,
You start to imagine that you are being spun inside your own cocoon as the silks wrap around your body,
Surrounded by warmth and safety,
Held and protected,
Wrapping around every part of your body,
Keeping you safe.
Know that just like the caterpillar,
Transformation can feel messy.
The caterpillar completely dissolves before it can become something new.
In this safe cocoon,
You are allowed to give yourself permission to sit with your fears,
To sit with the messy,
The sadness,
The tears,
The rage,
With all the parts of yourself that may feel uncomfortable or difficult.
As this caterpillar spins,
Wrapped safely in this cocoon,
You know that healing often begins in the messy places.
Transformation is not easy.
It's not always beautiful,
But it is necessary.
This cocoon allows you to pause,
To rest if needed,
To become undone.
So that you can gather your strength for the next part of your journey,
Giving yourself permission in this phase of rest,
Knowing that this phase is just as important as the becoming.
There is no need to be hard on yourself.
There is no need to rush.
Simply trust your process,
Allowing yourself to feel in the safety of your cocoon,
To release to undo.
Inside the cocoon,
Everything changes.
The caterpillar's DNA transforms completely to become the butterfly,
From one state to another,
From one perspective to a new perspective.
This is your time for renewal.
With this visualization of the caterpillar,
Feel the beauty of your own transformation.
You are not broken,
Dear one.
You are simply evolving,
Remembering and returning to your true self.
Now imagine the changes starting to take place.
Feel the colors shifting.
Maybe your wings starting to form from your shoulder blades,
As you sense your whole body morphing into this new,
Bright,
Magnificent being,
Knowing exactly who you are and that you are in the highest frequency.
As you visualize yourself slowly emerging from your cocoon,
Taking your time,
Coming out as slow and as gently as you need,
One moment at a time,
As you move towards courage and strength,
As you feel your new wings unfolding,
Stretching out,
As you feel the space and spaciousness of leaving the cocoon.
Your wings vibrant,
Colorful,
Delicate,
Yet strong.
This is your moment of becoming.
Celebrate this renewal,
This new phase of life,
This freedom.
Feel your breath expand through your back and your chest as your wings open wide.
You are light.
You are free.
You are pure joy.
Feel the expanse of your wings as you take flight.
You are limitless.
Feeling the joy in your heart,
Knowing that you are limitless.
Feeling the gratitude for the time that you gave yourself in the cocoon.
This precious time of rest,
Renewal,
Unbecoming so you can become again.
And as you soar and fly,
Remember that life is filled with cycles.
There will be times when you feel like the butterfly,
Strong and joyful and free,
Tasting the sweet,
Sweet nectar of life.
And other times,
You may feel you need to return to your cocoon to rest,
To pause,
To feel raw in the spaciousness and safety of your own being.
Both are necessary.
Both are sacred.
Celebrate your journey,
The joys,
The challenges,
The growth,
Even the letting go and the grief.
Feel the freedom of your wings.
Feel the guidance of your authentic self.
Trust in your process.
Everything is unfolding as it should.
Now imagine you as this butterfly,
Coming to rest on a beautiful flower.
Feel your wings slowly settling as you rest.
Notice your colors shimmering in the sunlight.
This flower that you have found is a symbol of compassion.
Let it remind you of your own self-compassion,
Self-acceptance,
Self-love,
And the freedom that lives within your heart.
Visualize this image,
The butterfly resting gently on the flower,
And bring this image into your heart space.
See it resting in your heart,
Glowing with vibrant color.
Feeling the energy of compassion and beauty filling your heart.
Take a deep breath into your heart space,
Allowing these feelings to expand and radiate outwards in all directions.
Breathe in as this vibration surrounds your whole body.
Rest in this feeling for as long as you need.
When you are ready,
Bring your awareness back to your body.
Wiggle your fingers and your toes.
Notice the surface on which you are sitting or lying.
Feel your breath as it moves in and out.
Taking your time to bring yourself back into the here and now,
The present moment.
In your own time,
Gently blink your eyes open.
Returning to the room around you.
I invite you to carry this sense of transformation and freedom with you.
Thank you for allowing yourself this time.
