Self-inventory of the four areas of holistic health.
Checking in with ourself,
With our body,
Mind,
Emotions,
And spiritual self can be a really beneficial and an illuminating way to open up what's going on inside of us.
It is the practice of mindfulness to stop and check in.
And so for the following meditation we're going to pause,
Check in,
And then create an inventory of how we are feeling in our body,
Mind,
Emotions,
And spiritual selves.
So begin by relaxing into a comfortable spot.
This could be either lying on the ground,
Sitting in a chair,
Whatever feels right or is available to you in this moment.
And if it feels right,
Go ahead and start to soften the eyes so that you can truly start to tune into yourself.
Let's start with three very deep cleansing breaths.
Take a big inhale and fully exhale.
Next inhale,
Fill all the way up to the top of your belly and sigh it all out.
One more breath on your own and let it all go.
Start to bring awareness to your breath.
Let the inhales naturally follow the exhales,
Taking one last moment of awareness of your breath.
And then allow for your breath to just become natural,
Flowing without your involvement.
We're going to take an inventory of the four areas of holistic health.
You'll give yourself a rating for each area on a scale of one to ten.
One meeting needs support and ten being at the very best.
You're at the top of your game.
You are your best self.
Settle back into your breath,
Back into your space,
And let's begin.
Start to bring your awareness to your physical body.
As you settle into this space,
What do you notice?
What do you feel physically?
And as you start to scan your body,
Noticing and becoming aware,
What in your body do you feel?
Is there any particular place in your body that is speaking to you at this time?
Allow your awareness to linger in that particular space and just notice and receive.
And then take a step back and just notice yourself checking into your physical body.
Take a deep breath in and exhale out.
Give yourself a number.
One meeting needs improvement or support.
Ten being feeling full and at my very best.
And start to move into your thoughts,
Into your mental headspace.
What do you notice about your thoughts?
Are your thoughts mostly positive?
Are they mostly negative?
Do you find that your thoughts are racing or did you feel cloudy or unclear?
What do you notice about your thoughts?
What are your thoughts centered around?
Yourself?
Others?
A particular situation?
Check in mentally.
On a scale of one to ten,
Give yourself a number.
Let's begin to move into an emotional space.
Our feelings.
And at this time just allow them to show up without holding back and without judgment.
Check in with your emotional self.
What specific feeling is rising to the surface at this moment?
Can you allow this feeling to be fully present without trying to change it or shut it off,
Bury it or ignore it?
Notice what your emotions want you to know in this moment.
In this emotional space give yourself a rating.
One meaning needs support and ten meaning at its very best.
And finally let's check in on our spiritual connection.
This is the unseen parts of our deepest desires,
Our contentment,
Our peace,
Our trust,
Joy or gratitude.
Our spiritual connection is the connection to ourself and our connection to the outer and greater world.
Over the next few easy breaths notice your spiritual self and give yourself a rating on a scale of one to ten.
Take a deep breath in through the nose and a long exhale.
Bring your awareness to your entire being.
Physical body,
Mind,
Emotional space and spiritual connection.
Bringing these four areas of your whole self together.
What do you notice?
Start to bring your awareness back to the physical space around you.
This could be done by maybe wiggling fingers or toes,
Allowing gentle movement to come back into the neck and fluttering your eyes open as you are ready.
And if you have a moment grab a pen and paper and write some notes down about how you're feeling,
What you notice and what your whole self might need.
And with compassion and non-judgment give yourself what it is asking for to move forward in this day.
And thank yourself for noticing,
For attending and for nurturing yourself.
