A warm welcome to you.

I'm delighted to share this time with you and to help you arrive to a place of stillness,

A place of knowing,

A place that finds home for your deep values and sense of purpose.

Often the busyness of life makes us lose sight of our values,

Our sense of purpose and of what is deeply important to us.

When we move through our days without holding these values in our awareness,

We are like an explorer without a compass.

The end of the day arrives and we have become sidetracked,

Distracted or in some way misaligned with what is deeply important to us.

This leads to a certain rumbling feeling deep within us,

A quiet sense that something is not right,

A certain level of unease.

Holding our values in our minds and in our hearts as we move through our days helps guide our decision-making and ensures that we are living each day in line with what is important to us.

So during this meditation we shall invite the whispers of our heart to stand in the light of awareness.

We shall welcome the unearthing of our deep desires and values.

We shall then think creatively about small things we can do each day to contribute to our overall sense of happiness.

Because we all know that life is about the small things,

The little moments that when strung together like a group of pearls amount to the beauty and uniqueness of our precious life.

It's the small gestures,

The moments when we really touch one another,

When we connect with those we love.

It's the gentle experiences of gratitude.

It's the moments of calm and of pleasure that leave us full,

Alive,

Vibrant and awake.

As they say in Tibetan culture,

If you take care of the minutes,

The years will take care of themselves.

With this in mind let's take care of these precious minutes that lay before us now by beginning our practice.

So settling now into a comfortable position,

This could be seated or lying down,

Whatever position will help you find stillness and a sense of surrender today.

Closing down your eyes if you like,

Letting the landscape of your awareness turn inward to the gentle rhythm of your inner world.

Drawing your attention now to your breath,

This gentle life force that exists within each of us.

No need to change your breath in any way,

Just beginning the process of looking inwards with a gentle sense of curiosity.

Noticing for a few breaths the air as it enters your nose.

Noticing for a few breaths the air as it leaves your mouth.

Noticing the gentle rise and fall of your chest as you breathe.

Noticing the soft expanse of your belly as the air flows in and out.

Beginning now to cultivate a real sense of curiosity and appreciation for the way so many parts of your body come together in this shared act of breath.

Noticing also how your breath can be both complex and simple at the same time.

Noticing now that your body breathes on its own,

That you are being breathed.

Surrendering into this idea of being breathed a little more now.

Surrendering into the intelligence of your body,

Into its deep sense of knowing.

Focusing now on your exhale,

Allowing it to be long and smooth.

Perhaps you can hear its gentle force as it leaves your mouth.

This breath of relaxation.

Noticing now any natural desire to soften across your eyes,

Across your jaw.

Noticing any natural sense of letting go across your shoulders,

Your stomach,

Your hips,

Your legs.

Sinking a little deeper into the surface that supports you now.

Letting go of any sense of holding on.

Now in this safe space of calm you have created,

I invite you to think about a time in recent weeks when you experienced joy.

Holding the details of this moment in your mind's eye now.

Who was there?

What were you doing?

How did this sense of joy make your body feel?

Perhaps there was a sense of vibrancy,

Of aliveness.

How did this sense of joy make your heart feel?

Perhaps it felt light,

Full,

Abundant.

Just taking a nice deep breath into this sense of joy.

Moving your awareness now to a time recently when you felt really happy and content.

Like for that moment you had everything you needed.

This moment doesn't need to be fancy or grand.

Who was there?

What were you doing?

How did your body feel when you were in this moment of happiness?

Perhaps it felt relaxed,

Spacious,

Open.

How did your heart feel?

If this sense of happiness had a colour,

What would it be?

Imagining now that you are breathing in this colour,

This sense of happiness.

With each breath this colour is moving into your body,

Mind and heart.

Now can you hold in your mind a time when you felt really inspired,

Motivated or purposeful?

A time when you felt like you were focused,

You were moving in the right direction.

What were you doing in this moment?

How did it feel in your body to be inspired in this way?

How did it feel in your heart?

Returning your attention now to the natural rhythm of your breath.

Surrendering into this gentle act of coming home.

Air flowing in,

Air flowing out.

Now I invite you to imagine yourself at 80 years old,

Sitting in a comfortable chair,

Perhaps on your veranda or inside looking out your window to the garden.

You are happy,

You are peaceful,

You are content.

Breathing in this image now for a moment or two.

This older version of you is sitting in a moment of reflection for a life well lived.

This is you reminiscing on your life,

On all the elements that made you smile,

That brought you happiness,

That made your heart feel open and full.

Here in this moment of reflection,

All the noise,

The busyness,

The striving and wanting,

It all fades into the background.

And what you are left with is a deep sense of what is important to you,

Of what brings you joy,

Of what your life has all been for.

These are your values.

This is your purpose,

Shining bright in the light of your awareness.

Allowing the whispers of your heart to roll through you with the aid of your breath now.

Letting the fire that burns deep within you to warm you,

To inspire you.

And so I ask you with a warm heart,

What small things can you do each day to bring these values and this purpose to life?

Perhaps you can commit to slowing down,

To listening with an open heart,

To forgiving more.

Perhaps you can commit to small gestures of love or gratitude,

To opportunities to learn or to contribute.

What can you do each day to stoke the fire that exists within,

The fire that burns for this one amazing and precious life?

Gently beginning now to deepen your breath.

Offering your body any gentle movements.

When you are ready,

Opening your eyes.

May you move through your days with a sense of what is important to you and the courage to bring this to life.
